a few years back I was talking to a feller about why he doesnt like saddle backed dogs (I like white, but I also like the big blanket back, red headed, red legs look, if you know what I mean)
He said it was because, in his experience, the ones with more color, overheated more often.

Have you experienced this?

Liz,

In short...yes and no.

Overheating is primarily a combination of conditioning, diet, and the amount of energy exerted at a tree.

I truly believe that I have never seen a 140 bark a minute tree dog that was open spotted. I'm not saying they don't exist, but they are not as prevalent as the blanket backed dogs that are known to be "power" tree dogs.

I believe that whatever trait makes them tree that hard is somehow genetically linked with the color pattern that makes them blanket backed.

I had an old Spring Creek Rock dog several years ago that was as hard a tree dog as anyone was packing. If he was hunted in hot weather and was in condition, he would not overheat...but if I hunted him once a week, he treed hard enough to get overheated...so I truly believe that the blanket backed dogs that genetically are programmed to tree hard like that need to be in tip top condition, with quality feed, or they are more prone to overheating that a "steady" tree dog that is barking 50 or 60 times a minute.....

I have had several inquiries about frozen semen. I can not offer frozen breeding for $150.00.

Frozen breeding are $250.00 each, and you will be responsible for storage of the semen that you buy.

Looking for a female pup out of Hitman or Cube

Posted by Oak Ridge on 06-19-2014 03:21 AM:

Should have a female or two to breed to Cube here soon....got a call from a fellow in KY whose female is close to being ready to breed this weekend.

Have a female in heat now, but she is a daughter of Cube. I am going to breed her to a half brother to Cube, out of my old Pine Ridge Julie female....

That will be Joker X2, Hayes, Cube, and my old Powder female......my dream cross...

Nic,

She is in heat now, and they are in the breeding pen together as I type this. She's not ready to breed yet, but I will keep them together to let nature take it's course.

I want this cross for me. Likely will keep a pair of these (a male and a female), so I'm not ready to commit to anyone just yet I learned a long time ago to not count my chickens until they are hatched...... So please understand that I'm not very good at keeping "lists" of folks that want pups. I used to do that, and about three quarters of the guys that say they want pups, find other pups that they buy and I have one saved for them....then they don't want one any more.

Stay tuned to this thread, and I will let everyone know when they are born and 'out of the woods'.....

We hunted the thunder out of Skeeter, and I bred her one time. I wasn't very thrilled with the pups. They were all really skittish, and were very shy and backwards acting.

She flipped her stomach and died before I could get her to the vet....

I probably would not have bred her again....

I find it funny.

There is not a day go by that I don't get a phone call, or a PM, or an email from someone looking for a pup out of Cube.

I started this post on October 10th of last year, offering FREE stud fee for Cube, after you paid the litter up in the performance program....and not one person has taken advantage of it.

I don't have enough females that are not daughters of Cube to keep up with the demand for pups.....I see these posts "What should I breed her to", guys looking to be able to sell pups....and here I'm offering basically a free stud fee, out of a reproducing dog, who is for all practical purposes bred just like one of the most popular stud dogs today in PKC....and he just stands in the kennel until I have a female to breed to him.

The free offer is going to expire soon....maybe $150 is too low. I don't understand it....probably never will.....

Joe, can you do fresh chilled semen? I'd rather go that route because of the cost of AI is less and much simpler than with frozen. I understand stud fee won't be free, I will pay all the costs.
