oklahoma Charlie

I heard from Joe he was a real dog. If you guys notice Charlie isn't a "Fireball" dog but he was good so he owned him. He made coondog's by breeding the best he had to the best he could find and line bred on what suited him. It seems to work since they are still around and are still suiting folks. I enjoy mine ,I hope my info doesn't slow down Jon's thread. Jon deserves to be recognized as a top coondog regardless of his breeding. I hope my info helped.

preston

It was good talking with you the other day & I appreciate all the info keep in mind what we talked about & I'll get back with ya in a few weeks..

You post what ya like It won't slow this thread down.. Andrew is a completion coonhunter you won't see him post much on these boards about his dog but you will see him winning.

These dogs are generations of winners from all over the country from a tight line.. Not winners from 1 mans backyard that a few have jumped on the bandwagon with.

I HUNTED A LOT WITH OKLAHOMA RED CHARLIE,WHEN HE WAS IN OKLAHOMA,A YOUNG MAN THAT LIVED AT WEWOKA OK.,STARTED HIM AND FINISHED HIM TO NITECH.,WE HUNTED TOGETHER A LOT,CHARLIE WAS A VERY FAST DOG ON TRACK,AND A FAST HARD TREEDOG,THE ONLY REASON THE YOUNG MAN SOLD HIM,WAS HE WAS GETTING A DIVORCE AND HAD TO.

Mandolin

Just for the record..Mandolin has 3 wins to grand.. At 10 she can still get it done so I might try to finish her...My boys have grown up over the last ten years but now are gone off and I have time on my hands... We will see if she can get it done. Lucas

It is raining here again today, so here you are....It looks to me like the bottom side is essentially all outcrosses with Fireball once in the 5th generation. The top side is Ol' Fireball 3 or 4 times in the 5th-6th gen through Fireball II and III and My Dog Fireball and Pam with a bunch of outcrosses thrown in.

Meltons Red Penny was out of Sextons Red Bo and Flatfords Tenn. Joy.
Bo was out of Swanns Redman and Chambers Red Lady. Lady was a grand daughter of Bruces Bugger Bill.

Joy was out of Smokey Mountain Dooley and Sands' Red Queen.

Mr Patterson is correct on Penny as well

It looks like Meltons Red Fireball and Meltons Fireball is two different dogs is this correct ???

Would Banjo 111 be considered heavy line bred to Fireball?

larry

Meltons Red Fireball is the same dog as where Richard left out the "red" in there. As to whether or not B3 is "Heavy" fireball bred or not is up to the person looking at the pedigree. My dog Fireball is another Direct son of the old dog, the thing I've found with the line is the consistent drive and desire to get treed. There have been numerous debates on this forum about what is considered "linebred" "inbred". Everyone has an opinion all I know is that the crosses made back in the day produced a lot of nice hounds and when bred "in line" the numerous good crosses combined still produce nice coon dogs that still carry the original traits that were brought out thru breeding and "selection". Just my 2 cents on it. Richard may have thrown a Curve ball by leaving out "red" there but it's the same

Familiar crosses

I thought that some of those crosses looked familiar so i checked. Melton's Red Bell was also Hattie's mom and her sire was My Dog who Joe called Fireball II. Of course the one registered as Fireball II was from the same cross as GrNtCh Rooster, who is in Ghost and Jackie's PED. Jackie, Grasshopper, Banjo, Tex and many others had some Fireball III also. Of course stuff out of Rocky and Fiddle sure seems to have worked aweful well too. A pile of titled hounds and consistent winners in any terrain in that one also.

Some people just make their dog's names too long for typing.

As for B III, it depends on what you call "heavy". However I think that everyone would agree that B III is heavy Melton bred.
Maybe "close" linebred would be a better term. In my opinion B III is linebred but not "close" linebred as there were so many outcrosses made.

Posted by Richard Lambert on 01-14-2014 04:56 PM:

So, B III's granddad on the bottom, Tenn Red Man, was a littermate to Gr Nt Ch Fireball's Little Hattie? Hattie was a big comp winner back in her day. And his sire was Gr Nt Banjo who was also a big comp winner. Did Banjo or Meg have any titled littermates?

Very good info Guys I'm enjoying reading this. Let's keep the talks coming.

I tried to tell everyone the caliber of dog Jon was & no one wanted to listen to a poorboy from Ga, he had his faults but he was smart enough to learn from them. I have never seen another dog that wanted to please you as much as him or 1 with more drive & desire to tree coon.

He had the actual Fireball II, Roosters brother, over there. Put the last wins to make him a NtCh I think.
