Ramblin Jane pups out of Zig

Hi,

I have taken Spot 2 times. She goes with Zig and has been at the tree both times. He goes deep. No coons moving. She will go hunting. She keeps the cat treed just like those pups did when they were 8 weeks old. Richard Ward put a post on here about his Ramblin Jane pup with a picture. Tana keeps everything treed at Roger Rowan's house. He is waiting til they ease off on his work schedule to start hunting her. Darrel Smith really likes his pup. He says she is a very smart pup. Gene Teeter likes his pup. Says that pup is easy going like Zig. Those pups have big mouths. Does yours? Can't wait til the rut. Richard has called and ordered another pup out of Jane and Zig.

Took a few days off for Christmas and bad weather. Hope it breaks so I can get these pups back out.

Those ticks don't hurt a thing! She runs like the wind is athletic and smart as a whip. Awesome Bawl Mouth!
I think all of us in the walker breed had better head back to ability and stop looking for pedigree and perfect looks, this pup acts like dogs did when they had noses and brains she tracks with her head up and runs not down on the ground sniffing.
I am going to try and get a litter off Ziggy as soon as i find a female worth breeding.

Hi,

I agree 100%. The confirmation is there and that is what they are supposed to have. Color is purely preference.

Let me know when you get that female. A good female is the cornerstone to any great cross.

She should be in heat June. I sent you my address in a text to your phone after we spoke. Send $100 deposit and whether you want a female or male. Richard Ward has already ordered another male. He got one from the last litter. These pups should be smart, track drivers with big mouths, and

Spanky

Hi,

Charlie Halterman called and wanted to go for a hunt last night. Phone number 573-581-9725. 20 degrees above zero and 5 inches of snow on the ground, where it isn't crusted over and frozen, in north central Missouri. Spanky came out of her box and wagged her tail and barked. I put Zig back on the chain and cut her loose. The happy hunter ran to the truck and hopped in.She nestled in the fresh hay of the dog box and we were off. It was about 9pm and very cold in the bottoms east of Mexico when we turned loose.

Spanky and Dot struck and trailed out in the field and ran it back to the branch.They took it up the branch and treed in a dozer pile. It was there. Got them out and started back down the branch. Dot couldn't resist and back to the dozer pile she went. Spanky went down the branch and struck. She ran the track about 300 yards and gave those 3 loud squalls and started that 120 bpm ringing chop. Walked to her and just sat down and petted her. I told her what a good job she did and hooked her up. Wouldn't do any good to shoot that coon. Spanky doesn't have any teeth left. She is in perfect health for a 13 year old.

Loaded her and Dot and went down the bottom road to another drop. Turned loose in the fence row and the girls took off. They went down to where the woods started and Spanky winded a coon. She gave her 3 loud squalls and sat down. That ringing chop echoed all through the bottom. Dot treed with her and we walked to the tree. We could see the coon long before we got there. Upon arriving at the tree, I tied Spanky back. We saw 2 big coons on different sides of the tree. Charlie shot them out and Dot went to work on them. We gathered the dogs and walked back to the truck. I tried to find soft snow where Spanky could walk. She wasn't liking the tough frozen snow very well. We loaded the cooners and drank some sodas. The coons stretched almost the length of the tailgate. They were heavy and black as coal. Big boars.

Boys, it's not about the coons. It's about the dogs. I know I don't have years to hunt Spanky. I just love her. I have loved her since I bought her as a pup from my friend, Buck Kimbrel. She was out of his Timber dog. John Wick paid $7500 for that dog years ago. Her mother was KK. A dog that Mike Umphrey had owned. She has always given me 110%. She has always minded me better than a child. Hardly ever need to leash her. She will walk with me until I tell her to go. In the yard, she will sun herself and never leave. If I tell her to go to her box, she will hop in. If I tell her to go to the truck, she will load. She has always been a faithful friend. When she goes to the great beyond, I will miss my friend. I am sure I will not have dry eyes. She is a once in a lifetime dog.

My Zig Pup (Flint's Finley River Stormy)opened a few times on a track and I drug the coon and hid it in a tree she found it and treed on it night before last. She is very independent hunts on her own not 2 yards from the other dogs. Can't wait to take her out again, not bad for an 8 month old pup who has been hunting 2 times.

Hi Steve,

I am glad little Stormy is starting to come on. She isn't very little now by the looks of her picture, lol. It seems like yesterday that the wife and I were sitting in the yard playing with her and her littermates. I love pups. I love to raise them and see them develop into coondogs. I really enjoy Spot. I can not wait to make that cross again this summer.

Well boys snow is about a ft deep here maybe deeper , wish I could say I was hunting in it but its so deep you can't even walk in it..Starting to get cabin fever , and Grumpy cause I can't get out to hunt. Reading your stories helps, thanks keep them coming..

Also is there anyone who has a high concentration of Finley River Dogs in the Ohio area?

Rolling Hills

Hi,

Bill Mick had Rolling Hills Dan, House's Tom Tom, Jackson's Finley River Tom, Finley River Little Hawk, Rolling Hills Lee Roy, Rolling Hills Wrangler, Rolling Hills Padro, Rolling Hills Leroy and several others. Some he kept, some he sold, some he hunted and handled for their owners. He was a hard hunter and a smart hunter.

He crossed Finley River blood into Johnson's Banjo. The particular cross your pup is out of has Rolling Hills Tinker 2. She was a direct daughter of Red Eagle Dick. He linebred this cross in with Rolling Hills Padro and Rolling Hills Lee Roy.

These dogs are known to be good track dogs, one bark locate, stay put tree dogs with good mouths. Rolling Hills Dan and House's Tom Tom were brothers.

Rambler came from a cross between Lipper and Trap. Trap was linebred Finley River Chief, Finley River Dan, Finley River Dan 3. Dan 3's mother was a daughter of Nt. Ch. Lake Ozark Banjo. He was a littermate of House's Chief. She also had Bennett Springs Sugar in her 3 generation pedigree, which was a littermate to Bennett Springs Bandit and Finley River Banjo. Trap was a granddaughter of Gr. Ch. Nt. Ch. Jackson's Finley River Tom. Tom was a son of Dan 3. Tom's mother was a Gr. Nt. Ch. daughter of Finley River Joe. Rambler was out of linebred crosses of Banjo and Finley River Chief. Rambler was # 2 on UKC's Current Reproducers List until he started having reproduction problems.

Jane has a GR. Nt. Ch. littermate brother in Pennsylvania that was sold for $4500 when he was 15 months old.

Hi Darren,

Good to talk to you on the phone. Sounds like that Lone Pine female is linebred out of the old dogs. Should work on Zig. The Lone Pine dogs all go back to Finley River. So line breeding Lone Pine dogs are really linebreeding Finley River dogs. Same way with Yadkin River dogs and Hillbilly Mack dogs.

Hope you can get down to hunt. Sounds like your little boy is going to make a coonhunter. He is the future of our sport.

If you have or know of a Wild Casey granddaughter line bred that is the real deal, please let me know. I am not sure Spanky will come in heat this year. I have never been able to get pups from her. I want to get something that is like her to breed to Zig. She is double Hillbilly Mack, Jr. with Echoing Chief and Hillbilly Misty on the bottom.

Chad's pup

Hi,

Took Chad Rouse's pup and Cadillac Jane for a spin the other night. Wasn't in a good spot and the coons weren't moving, but did manage to tree one.

Chad's pup fell in with Jane on the tree and treed like he had been doing it all his life. That was his second night in the woods. He was a year old. The first night he just played like pups do when you first start taking them. I don't fool with cage coons or drags. I just start hunting them and do all my training in the woods.

After we started talking about the pups breeding and a phone call, we found out he was out of a dog I had for awhile, Dual Ch. Track Man's Mad Dash. Dash is out of my Lill female.
