Here is what I expect will happen in regards to the move :

1. Some people have never been & never will go.
2. Some that attended every year will now not ever attend again.
3. Some that attended every year will continue to go.
4. Some that attended every year will go but not every year.
5. Some that attended sporadically, will now go every year.
6. Some that have never attended will now go.

There will always be alot of factors as with any hunt such as, dog power, fuel, weather, mileage, etc... numbers may be up or down due to these things.

Based on the above, I see it as a "wash". The WC will gain new participants/visitors and lose some. It will be a wait & see thing.

I personally will be #4. The event went from 80 miles to 320 for me to travel. I cannot attend the Grand American due to a date conflict with my beagle club in which I'm the secretary. Autumn Oaks is 12 hrs away - I went for the first time last year but dont see myself going back. The WC was the only big UKC event that I attended/participated in every year. Its difficult to see it go. I wish UKC & Batesville the best of luck with the WC.

This one is. It's not like the Civic Center in downtown Albany which is confined with chain link around an asphalt parking lot if that is what you are picturing? This is more of a rodeo arena. It's very nice but not fancy. It sits on the outskirts of a small town in a country setting. It does have some asphalt parking just like the lot that fills up at A.O. but it also has plenty of grass / gravel overflow parking to stake a dog out. It also has an open sided building larger than a football field sitting right next to it. Plenty of options for putting on a great event. I'm not sure what you mean by "walk-in" but it's no different than walking into the Raper Center at A.O. other than it's bigger?

Thanks Todd. From the look of the building it appeared as if it was the same situtation as that of the Georgia facility that would have required the hunters to park in a parking lot and walk through a gate to get to the activities, much like attending a major league sports event. We felt at the time that that was not conducive to the traditional "feel" of a coonhound event. If the setup in Batesville is like that of the Wayne County fairgrounds then that of course should work just fine.

Never seen any chain link in the Civic center parking lot it borders the flint river on one side and a church and buildings on the other with a youth Golf course behind it.....

Dirt for the rodeo and they bring in dirt every November for a big national go-cart race. The civic center will be just fine for a coon hound event and Wal-Mart is in walking distance for who may want too know.

I will know more about that in a few weeks. We are traveling down there to lay everything out for the event. I know they have electric and water along the back side of the open arena and that is where all the campers line up for rodeos, etc.

SEEMS LIKE THE PEOPLE OF ALBANY ARE UPSET BUT I DOUBT THEY WILL GET ANOTHER HUNT FROM THE OTHER REGISTRYS THAT WILL DRAW 5000 PEOPLE SO THE COONHUNTERS IN THAT AREA MAY BE MISLEADING THEM IF THEY THINK THAT STARTING ANOTHER ONE WILL CURE THE PROBLEM......

Which motels are the closest to and most convenient to the grounds.
Maybe an over lay map of the area showing motels, camp grounds, restaurants, etc..

You can have temps in the single digits at night to never seeing it above 32 during the day. 70's during the day to low 40's at night. Snow and Ice to rain you just never know about it here that time of year. I have seen the temps below 0 for a solid week back in the 80's even during the day.
