In that case some of the coves at the lake here would be perfect. There is just no club house there to use. My dogs use to swim them after a coon all the time.
I am going to have to get out of hunting because of my hips, back and neck but I have trained dogs for something or another all my life. So I know I am going to do something with them. I just haven't decided what yet.

Hi Jeff--explanation of any thing goes grade dogs

For many, many years there have been dogs that were bred just for water races and field trials. These dogs were usually unregesterd because they were usually crossbreeds of some sort. A few had no hound blood, some had a little hound, most had about half hound blood, and some had so much hound blood that it would be hard to say for sure if they were crossbreeds or not. Various kinds of dogs are used to make these crosses with but by far greyhound is the most common. I know that other breeds such as labs ,pits, danes, and everything else have been tried, in fact one of the fastest dogs I ever saw would have passed for a pure doberman. These dogs are not usually pets, they are raceing dogs. During the time of the Kenton Nationals these dogs were very popular and valuable. These dogs aren't as common as they once were but they do still exist. It would be very hard to keep some of the more hound looking of these dogs out of a "hound only" race. This is the reason I said why try to keep any of them out of Your grade races ? This is what I meant when I suggested to have Your grade races be anything goes in the way of dogs. Who knows You may come up with the next version of a Kenton National !!!!
As for Me I'll try to see You at Your UKC events and if You have a two day UKC event I'll try even harder to make it over there.

Wish I still had a female black and tan I got rid of. She was a climber and I didn't want to be the owner when she fell out and broke her neck.
She could swim like a fish though and made it look so easy. The water stayed smooth as glass. I watched her hunt a creek bank swimming but and down the creek one night and it was moveing pretty good but she went up it like a mottor boat. She was a small slinder built thing.

Thank you for all your replies.

I was a Grade field trialer and did swim race. My breed dogs are still swimming great grandsons of my Famous I don't Know Dog ( Howie) That was to sold Harry Higgins. he won Kenton 4 or5 times.

I can have 2 day UKC and for a name The Unites States Championship has been thrown out there before.

When I was talking Other Reg. I was talking UKC PKC AKC that is all. If some one tried to put papers on something else Trust me I have seen it all that is why I don't Field trial ( cross blood dogs) or Outlaw swim race as they were full of drugs. My family naturally conditions dogs always have. That is why we switched back to hounds - (No Drugs) Also at our races a vet will be present and trust me i can spot a drugged dog a mile away. I am looking for feed back my hide is thick as can be, so I won't be offended at all. We want the maxium dogs and fun for everybody that is why We are asking what people want.

Really like idea of a kids race to.

Thanks to all this will give us more things to work with. I am very familiar with putting on large events and promotion. Out club in the 1980's put on $5000 field trials.

People with all hounds raise and train and honestly care more for their dogs like it was in the 1960' and early 1970' before greyhound mixes got more involved and with UKC its not about money that is what drew me to them and their very nice staff, really nice people.

Thank you all, Jeff

Fido

I don't know who you are, doesn't matter. I was well known for working my dogs daily 5 miles a day and they ran thier entire lives. And if you know anything about the Ridge dogs Tommy Greaves raised they are still running today. As is i Don't Knows Grandsons. Yes this will be registered hounds only. I won part of every big field trial at least one except Kenton, didn't go there. My dogs were in extreme shape or i wasn;t racing.

(I don't know) won tons of races and was field trial bred. If you went to those races like I did you will see plenty of needles going to work and maybe a 2 year old dog burn't up I have seen many and that was years ago and it is as bad now.

Steroids and anphetmines do that. I coach and condition athletes for 30 years also. If you want to talk dogs and condition call me 1-217-218-2251.

I said dedicated dog men that have very well conditioned coon dogs that competition hunt.

A naturally conditioned dog is road worked and or hunted and put in prime condition and feed top feed and suppliments as owner see fit. NO Drugs and this dog last as old as you say. You are talking trader dogs not competion dogs. I saw 40 dogs swim at Black and tan days and not one had anything in them that was noticed. A nice family event.

You are welcome to come when we get everything ready.

Charleston pond

It is 260- 270 feet rough, 5 feet deep roughly it was dug like this for just a dog swim pond. Nobody will drown getting a dog and we can have a jon boat if people think it is needed.

It will have 2 fences going out from box for probably 15-20 feet and a 1 to 1 1/2 foot jump. With a nice 4 hole box.

We will try using a real coonhide stuffed with a bladder and foam inside it has head and tail. Floats like a real coon swimming. saw this idea in wisconsin video.

We have a club house and plenty of parking and camping if you want. No Electric and bring your own water.

Thanks for any ideas they will all be considered. Black and tan days were fun!!

Jeff A.

I KNOW WHAT A CONDITIONED DOG IS>>>>THANK YOU VERY MUCH. You didn't tell anything that a knowledgeable individual wouldn't know. I am not familiar with the field trial winning dogs and their bloodlines, only the water race side. Hmmmmm..... Didn't like it when I catagoried all coonhound folks together. Well I didn't take to being put in with everybody else either. I'm not upholding anyone but mister, things aren't perfect in the coonhound world either.

Posted by Jeff Ashmore on 05-07-2012 09:50 PM:

Fido

I wasn't being smart, I was being real, talking conditioning is a very important thing to me and i always am looking into different training methods and types of condioning. We are getting off on the wrong foot here, It is true that your dogs could not be doped due to them lasting, wasn't really grouping anybody just relating what I have seen most. I was raised with dogs and at 49 years of age seen a lot and know there is always more to learn. Offer was to talk dogs and conditioning that is all. Nothing more nothing less.

I enjoy dogs of all type, my personel pet is a lab dog cross as my pets come from the pound. In my kennel is a $10,000 retired greyhound field trial dog that sold for that at 2 years old and 2 uKC and PKC registered coonhounds Bluetick and a walker

In the old Baby ridge Bloodline you could get bluetick redtick or black and tan, maybe even a walker. ( I Don't Know) which was his 1/2 Brother was yellow. Most field trialers started with coondogs and it evolved from there.

Fido it is nothing personal I was sincere when i offered.

My Appologies Jeff Ashmore

I am sorry for taking on the fussy side of this conversation. As you all to well know being in field trials, being an out of stater swimming in Ohio, hauling dogs that far, competing with dogs familiar with the jump, etc., having to be first all day to get to the final is hard enough let alone it took many a race for me to be accepted as a female water racer. I lived it and breathed it for years and with the open grey x races dying out here in the midwest, family issues, and work not letting me travel the way I wanted to compete with my dogs, a choice had to be made and my dogs lost in 2011. Kept the retirees and sold the competition ones. Some of my best memories are winning at the World when it was at Fort Recovery, The Grandaddy and The Puppy Futurity. Went to Kenton but never had more than a heat winner.
I was very proud of my dogs being able to go out there and win a final. They did it not me.....all I did was load them in the box and catch them under the tree. But I can't give it up....I have a female walker hound I am going to start and see if she will be worth a hoot. Yes, I'd like to talk dogs with you some time as I'm into new ideas and input also and if the female shows promise I'd try and come to your event.

Posted by Jeff Ashmore on 05-09-2012 09:50 PM:

I am sorry also.

I remember many women in field trialing, My dear Friend Stacy Lawery, Deb Collins and Helen Trowbridge (god rest her soul, the tucker girls. I have the utmost respect for women with dogs!! Please call sometime as it something I live dear for. These ladies and a couple that swam dogs were very hard to beat, thier dogs we in top shape and it was clear that they loved them dearly the Dogs.

I wish you the best on your dog and I hope you call. After all I just fell into having a good swim dog for Fun, now I have to try and train the 2 hounds I have.

Take Care Fido, Jeff A.

Jeff A-------"Women Field Trialers"

The only field trials I attended was once in Oklahoma and twice at Kenton. It's been too long for me to remember any of the girls' names. My "bestest" friend, Karen Fedick, from New York got her start as a girl going to field trials with her daddy and then started water racing and still does. She goes to all the big races in Ohio and has done rather well over the years. A couple of her best dogs were Wintergreen and Uranium followed by USA, Q 10 and Acid (H2SO4---race name) She is my mentor. Thought you might know her or seen her and her son, Troy, swim dogs. Yes, I will most definately call you sometime soon and we'll talk dogs. Hope you do well with your dogs, too!!

Stonehill, sorry you can't make it to Troy. Tiny has to work too and may not get off in time either, so it may be a solo run for me.....and then a guinea pig show the next day and in the other direction. LOL

Hey there Girlie!!!!!
How you be doin'? I know things have been trying for you lately and I've been thinking about you. You got those red dogs ready to roll? I have been trying to follow your progress show and race wise. Never thought you could go so far and do so well, did you? Yes, Karen is a hoot. Could you tell she lives and breathes water racing? We don't get to see each other much anymore but we talk almost every week on the phone for a couple hours.......closer to three. Those three dogs you saw are litter mates and will turn eight years old here before too long this year. I had the opportunity to swim Acid for them out in Ohio-----all three were in the finals back to back. I just love him to pieces. Wish he was mine but no amount of money could buy any of them. Did she tell you USA is 100% house dog? Hope to see you sometime this summer. Do you think you will make it to the state youth championship on June 30? If you can and want to come early, let me know because the place will be all yours!!!! Talk soon

Karen and dogs

Glad to know I am not the only one with house dogs. My wife babies our greyhound to death. He is a nice one. Glad to see women in the sport as i agree they take good care of dogs.
