You can't have it both ways. Either they both are to blame for oil prices or neither are to blame.

I have always said neither are to blame.

Liberals in the past have said Bush was to blame, so if they don't say Oprama is to blame now then they are the ones that are hipocrits.

No Rip....I will not put the blame on either President, because I know how the economy works.........I have a Bachelors in Business, and only need three classes plus finish my Thesis, to have my MBA......so I have sat in enough Econmics classes to make me want to puke all over this keyboard.

Here's a question that I generated in one of my classes:

Would you support a goverment ran gas & oil company?, let's say we call it USA Oil.....The background of the question pertained to the goverment using tax monies, to buy/build refineries, rigs, and retail gas stations. The goverment would drill on federal ground (i.e national parks, and/or any ground they could buy) and then sell gas at their retail gas stations, let's say for 2.00 a gallon, and then use the net sales from gas to reinvest back into goverment holdings (i.e Wars, The Deficit, Healthcare etc.).

Let's say the taxes to start this venture would cost the average american 600.00 more a year, would you support?........I would really like to hear some feedback on this. Its actually research for my paper.....lol

Remember the gubment can not give you anything they didn't first STEAL from someone else.

They would have an unfair advantage. They have the ability to raise prices at the point of a gun (like they do now with taxes), they would have the ability to just remove competition by outlawing competition (Post Office anyone?).

No I wouldn't support it at all and that's just based on principle, not even taking the Constitution into account of which I am a strict constructionalist and believe that ONLY that deliniated in the Constution are the powers of the gubment and they do not have the right to be in the oil business, or GM for that matter.

Shakethevine, the government (either party) couldn't run a lemonade stand without screwing it up let alone the petroleum industry. Private industry has to run on a profit or cease to exist, government is supported by the taxpayers and and has no motive to be profitable. Rip was right on with his answer.

Yes, I agree that right now I could recoup my taxes with decreased gas prices, but for me that doesn't matter because the gubment doesn't have a right to be in the oil business.

I mean for that matter the gubment could give checks to everyone that owns a Dodge Ram 4x4 just cause they want to. It would help me cause I have one, but that doesn't make it right cause that would mean that somebody would have to have that money taken away from them in the form of some kind of forced fee or tax.

Same for them if they got into the oil business, they would steal from others with some form of "profit tax" or "luxury tax" or some other inflammatory name designed to make jealous people happy "somebody else is geting taxed more". Everything the gubment "gives" it first has to TAKE.

Right is right no matter if it helps me or hurts me.

So while gubment intervention would SEEM to help in the short term, all gubment intervention in the free market has ever done, time after time, is to HARM it in the long run.

Just like their limited intervention now, (ban on drilling, no new refineries, gas taxes etc) have hurt us already.

I don't think there is any way possible Oprama loses. If the opposition were Jesus himself without using his powers he would lose to Oprama. That's just the way it is.

Look at the last election. Palin was more qualified to be president than Oprama was, and she was just running for VP. BUT the media crucified her every chance they got, while hiding all the bad about Oprama and using the hype machiene to hype him up beyond belief. Jesus couldn't have beat him with the deck stacked against him like it was then, it will be the same way in the next election. It won't matter what the unemployment rate is, won't matter what the economy is, he is the medias man and he will be shown in a positive light, have all kinds of free advertising from them and they will tear down anyone that is put up against him. The American sheeple will fall for it again, just like they did last time.

Rip I know being a doctor you pull a lot of hours during a shift. You need some sleep for a comment like that lol. Hiding the bad? Are you serious? They ran the man into the ground for goodness sake. He's a terrorist, he won't say the pledge, took the American Flag off the plane, he's not an American, the list goes on and on and on. The only way mccain could have won was with hilliary. The republicans pulled a publicity stunt pure and simple. They thought the USA wanted a woman in there, but palin ain't no hilliary. The 'sheeple' did'nt fall for anything it all proved false.

1okiesawyers... great post and right on the money. When we first got into business out freight was 7 cents per sq yd to deliver. Its now 45 cents with a 55% fuel surcharge. Needless to say we make dang sure we HAVE to have something before we order it.

there is no fuel surcharge also on paving the roads. any asphalt comp. where i am at receives it and does not pass it on. the rates are the same as they were ten years ago. noone will stick together on this issue up here. and go figure, federally funded and state funded roads not making these companies, one of which bought a basketball team last couple years, fess up and pay the surcharge to us and not pocket it.
so the choice for me is, pray for the best and cry at the pump, or sell the truck.
so, if everyone can figure out how to STICK TOGETHER on an issue, let me know.
