-- What's The Best Redbone You Ever Hunted With? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=304513)

Redbone

Blakesleys Northern Buck probably pleasure hunted with him 200 times from the big mtns of Pa to the swamps of Del. He was one great layup dog & a booming mouth you could here for 2 miles. 3 looooooong locating bawls.
Pleasure hunted with Country Music Ringo in Texas & the mtns of Pa. He was a real good dog also.
Hunted with Millers' Valley Rocket before I bred my Mary dog to him he was lightning fast on track & tree

Only seen one that would do more than just tree with other dogs every once in awhile. Taylor's Guitar Ghost would be a nice one in any of the other breeds

Good redbones are like big foot or the lock ness monster. Many have claimed to have seen one. Pleasure hunted with 2 last week. I wanted to pull my hair out. Drew 3 in 3 different casts and did not see a one of those 5 tree a coon. I seen them me too dogs all night, then again thats all I have ever seen a red dog do. I do think they have good looks, mouth, and tree style and if I ever came across the right kind I would most likely try to own it. The problem is youre average redbone breeder is not breeding for hunting but rather showing. Thats why the breeds coon treeing ability is near gone. I do admire people that hunt them.

you know its funny how people dont look at what that dog is doing that is running behind the dog that is already treed....that dog is running the track and just cause its not going out there looking to get treed they think the dog is not worth nothing i rather have a dog thats gonna run the track and tree with the meat instead of tree all night...guess thats why i hunt redbones and english dogs instead of walkers now...

Re: Re: Georgia

Instead of walkers? Is that implying something? Lol you friend just ain't been with the right kind. Once you hunt night after night with the right kind you will realize what you have been missing, I assure you. In a few years I will look you up and see if you have found the right kind. Good luck to you on you're quest.

i can tell you i've got 2 very very nice walker females sittin in my yard and i've hunted with the right kind but my redbone will spank those two on ANY given night whether he's lookin good or not. its all a matter of what you like in the breed, i've got nothing against any of them and i will own and hunt all but i just prefer my red dogs.

I think the best red dogs i've hunted with would be grnitech ch'pr' mosquito creek red hot angus and his daughter, grnitech 'pr' s&j's ironwood kate and her daughter ch grnitech'pr' s&j's ironwood krazy daisy. its a whole generations thing lol and they've all been proven redbones, my male comes from this line of dogs and i've got to say he's a pretty nice one also!

The best Redbone I ever hunted with was a female named Robin, that was owned by Josh Calhoun in South Carolina in the early 80s. Sorry to say that both are dead now.

I have been hunting with quite a few of them in the last 30 years and none of the others were worthy of sleeping in the same kennel as ole Robin. When you turned her loose you went to a tree somewhere and saw a coon.

I am sure there are others out there, but I have not seen them!

Like I said you haven't been with the "right" kind yet. Time along with experience will change you.

I pleasure hunt with a younger guy right now that has two redbones. I'm guessing after he hunts with me a while he to will be hunting them, walkers that is. I also had two friends switch from english to walkers and one friend switched from bluetics to walkers, actually make that two from blues to walkers. All due to a few walker dogs they hunted with night in and night out. Once a dog has reached its peak and youre still falling short of the prize it's time to switch.
