BAD LUCK

Darren after reading your story from yesterday I went out and give Ole Speck a kiss. I just thought my luck was bad and was taking it out on Speck. We made up and will go get em tonight! Remember what you said, "It has to get BETTER! Take care and Good Hunting!

HUNT

My nephew Griffin and I went last night for a little while. First drop we cut Boozer and Rickett. They left hard and went about 400 yds. Both dogs opened a few times but soon came back out to the truck. We moved and cut Cotton and Andy loose down the edge of a cutover. They left out and split up as usual. Cotton ended up 775 yds thru the cutover and came out on a gravel road. She was trying to cross to the other side but she had not said a word and I just caught her. Andy was deep the other direction. We drove on around and he was opening sporatically in a bad thick cutover with briars and blackberries. He was drifting out but only opening every 5 minutes or so. He came close to an old logging road and I took advantage of that and walked in and called him to me. It was 11:30 and didn't seem like that track was going anywhere very fast. I saw 2 kitten dead on the road this morning on the way to work. First ones I have seen this year. I am checking on some corn to hunt around but not a lot of farming here anymore. Hopefully these berries are about gone and coons will be back in the bottoms and hardwoods. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

here's a good south alabama coon hunt for you turned lose at about 8:30 stroker struck followed by bandit and pepper, 2
2 freinds of mines dogs they drove a track about 250 yrds and just slammed a tree blowing the top out of it. walked into tree found the coons in quik fashion sow and tree kittens. turned and got stroker and all at once i hear the scream of 2 grown men just ring out all over the bottom. man they were in pain, without asking a ? i moved a good 75 yrds away and turn to see 2 men fight off yellow jackets. it wasn't funny but it was hard not to laugh. 1 got stung 6 times but the other wasn't so lucky he got it about 35 times at last count. we started home and they didnt get them all off and Sean got stung 2 more times in the head and Donny got it 2 times in the back. i jumped out of the truck still not being stung and told them they had to ride the back. GREAT ALABAMA SUMMER HUNTING.
everybody is ok this morning.

HUNT

Drake, Griffin, and I went to a UKC hunt and show Saturday night at Jasper, AL. It was a benefit hunt for the local children's home. They had a good turnout. I showed Andy in the show and got another best of show on him. I hunted him in the hunt as well. We had a dead cast. I had a circle tree up a huge pine but we all drew minus on a slick tree in the cutover on blackberries. We had a terrible hunt and Andy got him a little adjustment on that last tree as the hunt had ran out. We gone keep plugging along but I sure have had some bad luck lately. Worked all day yesterday and I'm going to take off work early today as water oak tree roots have grown up through my water main. Got to trench and reroute my water line. Gonna be fun trenching thru all the roots. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Took off a couple nights to refresh myself and the dogs.
I will be going after them tonight if something don't break!!
I start coaching 11 & 12 yr old football next week and my hunting will slow down to about 3 nights a week for the next couple months. I am starting to thin down on dogs and get ready to push my Cyclone pup hard this season. He has been a natural and I like what I see out of him but I haven't pushed him hard in this hot weather and these berries. Him and I are about to hit it hard. He is 10 mths old and can tree his own coon, but has a long ways to go.
I am selling my Sadie Mae gyp that is coming 2. She just hasn't been done justice at all and I don't see where I can hunt her like she needs in the near future. I also am going to let Seth Penn get my half of Boozer back as well. Boozer seems to be somewhat of a one man dog. He just hasn't operated for me like he did for Seth. I have a couple of pups that I will have to get started soon and will make a decision on them as well. BB is due to have pups in 2 or 3 days so I have my hands full.
Y'all Keep'em Lookin' up!!

HUNT

Well got back at it last night and pretty much continued where I left off. Didn't see many critters stirring last night. I cut Cotton and Cy in a bottom that I haven't been hunting very much. They left out good but stayed gone and got deep and never got a bark. I finally gathered them up and moved around to a different bottom. I cut Andy and my Pearl pup loose. Pearl hasn't been hunted much but she went for a ways and came back. Andy got deep and when I looked at my Garmin he was 975 yds. I barely heard him open a couple times. I loaded Pearl in the truck and drove around. I got within 200 yds of Andy and he was trailing a bad track. I threw Pearl out of the box and she went to him. He soon located and treed about 350 yds deep. I made my way to him and he was on a huge leaning tree that ran up into a couple more large trees. I looked for a good while but just couldn't get him to look and there was alot of the trees I couldn't see. I looked at my watch and it was 11:30. I called it a night and by the time I put up dogs and fed it was after 12 when I walked in the house. I will hit it again tonight!!

HUNT

I went by myself again last night. Had a little better hunt. First drop I cut Cotton and Cy loose in a creek bottom. They went right and Cotton soon opened a couple times. She got quiet and stayed quiet for about 5 minutes. When she opened again she was letting out her locate and started hammering the tree. I heard Cy opening deeper so I headed to the tree. She was treeing on a huge muscadine vine running up into a poplar tree. Cy came in to the tree but wouldn't tree with her. I just chained him back off the tree. It wasn't long til I spotted her coon. It only looked a couple of times and I never seen it again. Cy can be a little selfish at times but I don't think he knew this coon was there. Next drop I cut Cotton and Andy loose. They left hard and were deep in just a few minutes. Andy soon struck and started working a track. It sure wasn't very good. Cotton was opening here and there. Andy soon let out a locate and Cotton was there almost at the same time. They lit up the bottom and I headed to them. They were on a tree that I have treed up 2 or 3 times already. It is a hard tree to shine. I looked and squalled but never got it to look. It was 11:45 when I got to the truck and I called it a night. The weather has been more pleasant and has got me looking forward to Fall even more!! I will have a litter of pups here in the next day or so from NtCh Pr Frost Hollow BB and NtCh PR Alabama Judge. Heavy Tree Slamming Hillbilly and Jet 6 breeding. Y'all Keep'em lookin' Up!!!

Sounds like your getting them in the woods. I have hunted more in the last two months than in Summers past. I sold all of the livestock last year and the hay crop so I have just been hunting. The cool weather sure helps too.
I went to the BBOA State Championship with Creek last nite and put a 3rd on her with 200+ on one coon. That gives her 90 points to NiteCh. Going to go back tonight and try for Queen of Hunt and finish her.

Hunt

I hunted by myself last night. First drop I cut Andy and my Pearl pup loose. They left out and complete silence for the longest. Andy finally struck in at about 900 yds. I looked at the Garmin and pearl was with him. Andy worked down the bottom and crossed the creek a couple times. I heard pearl open a few times but I think she was barking on the water. Andy finally got treed and I walked in to him. He was on a huge tree and I couldn't get the coon to look. Next drop I cut Cotton and Cy loose in a creek bottom. Cy fell treed in the bottom about 450 yds deep. I made my way to him and heard cotton open deep. Cy was on a big tree full of muscadines. I didn't see a coon but it could have been there. I leashed Cy up and headed back towards truck. There is a couple apple trees and a pear tree in the edge of the bottom so I sent Cy that direction. He went about 100 yds and fell treed. He had a coon up an apple tree. The coon fell out and the fight was on. My dog box looked like a murder scene with all the blood from Cy's ears. Lol.
I heard Cotton load up down the bottom on the creek. I drove within 400 yds of her and walked in to the tree. She was on a huge den right on side of the creek. Next drop I cut Cotton and Andy together. Andy struck immediately followed by Cotton. They worked a track down a branch and into the hills. They were about 500 yds and just blowed up on a tree. I made my way to the tree. They were on a huge red oak and had a coon. It was about 12:45 am and I led them off that tree and recut them. They went different directions and Cotton struck in the hills and Andy struck down on the branch. Neither track was very good. Andy finally made his way close to me and I called him to me. Cotton was 975 yds and I loaded Andy and drove around to try to get to Cotton. I started calling her and walked into where she was trailing. I got within 75 yds of her and she loaded up treed. I didn't take much time to look the tree. It was a huge oak and I leashed her up and called it a night. Got home at 2:45 am.

Scott sounds like Creek is doing good for you. Good luck tonight for queen of hunt!!

Y'all keep'em Lookin up.

Jason ole Cy didn't back off him much. Sort of shook his head and dove back on him. He ain't the best kill dog I've seen but he is just a pup and he will learn them teeth hurt!! I am really liking what I see out of this pup. Hopefully he will continue to progress and make a nice one.

HUNT

I started football practice yesterday. I am coaching 11 and 12 yr olds. We don't have much size so we better be scrappy!! I didn't get to hunt last night. After this week we will only practice 2 times a week so it doesn't cut into my hunting too much. I still enjoy working with the youth and try to lead them into being good young men. Y'all keep'em looking up!! I will be back in the wood tonight!!

BLUEBLADE 13

Thanks for the compliment. I try to instill that attitude in these young men.

Hunt
Went by myself last night. First drop I cut Cotton and Cy in a rough bottom. They left out and at about 500 yds in the bottom around a rough beaver slash, Cotton opened once and fell treed. I made my way in to her thru the water and beaver runs. I got to the tree and it was a huge den. I have treed on this tree a few times before. I have seen the coon on the outside a few times but not tonight. Cy wasn't at the tree and was opening about 100 yds on up the bottom. I walked Cotton about 10 yds off and sent her up the beaver run. She went about 200 yds and fell treed. she was up a huge tree and I just couldn't find him by myself. I called Cy in to me and headed to the truck. Cy was getting in a real bad area that is mostly water and small trees. He is too inexperienced to be messing around in there so I caught him up. Next drop I cut Cotton, Andy , and a pup I call Rebel. Rebel is a brother to Cotton but is 6 months old.
I sent them towards a large creek that has some good timber on the other side. They crossed the creek and at about 400 yds Andy struck. I looked at the Garmin and Cotton was 500 yds straight thru the bottom. Andy was headed in her direction and she soon was with him. They got the track up and going good but were headed to the other side of the bottom which is rough as a cob on a cold morning. A timber crew had tried to cut the timber over there but gave up after digging out the equipment several times. They did cut a lot of the timber on the edges. I drove around and they had the track really up and going in all the water. I soon heard Cotton load up immediately followed by Andy. They really lit up the bottom. I made my way to them. I looked for a long time and knew they had a coon. I finally found a large stick and beat on the tree. I moved back in time to see the coon going on up the tree into some thick canopy. I was going to roll him out for the pup but never seen him again. I made my way out of there and it was 12:00 when I reached the truck. Got dogs fed and put up and got in bed around 1:30 am. Makes for a fun day. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

Hunt

My cousin and I went for a hunt last night. He had his ntch English female and a pup. I took Andy and Cotton. First drop we cut the English gyp, pup, and Andy. The English gyp and pup went left and Andy went right. We cut in a cornfield. English gyp struck left and Andy struck on creek to the right. The English gyp got deep and treed. We started to her and I heard Andy locate and tree about 700 yds down creek. We got in a rough cutover and it took nearly an hour to go 400 yards. My cousin wanted to just quit and leave her but I told him she did her job and we gotta do ours. We finally made it to her and she had a coon. We went out a different route and it wasn't as rough. Andy had been treed for at least an hour. We got to the truck and made it to Andy and he had a coon. We moved and cut Cotton and the pup. Cotton struck a sorry track in about 500 yds. She moved it good at times but bogged down at times as well. I finally walked in close and called her to me. It was about 2:00 am and we called it a night. Gone get after em Monday night. Y'all keep'em look in' up!!!!

HUNT

Drake and I went for a little while last night but I might as well stayed at home. We cut Cotton, Andy, and Cy loose in a good bottom. They went completely across the entire bottom and never got struck. I caught up Andy and Cotton coming down the creek trying to cross under the gravel road. Cy was still over in the bottom. I had not even got a bark. I went over to the hills above the bottom and recut Cotton and Andy. They went down a holler and went over 900 yds and ended up in the bottom again. Andy opened a few times but it was not good. I finally caught Cotton and Cy but Andy had gotten over in a huge beaver pond. I could hear him sloshing and splashing around. He finally came close to the road and I just got him and called it a night. It was 80 degrees when I went thru town and very humid. I will be so glad for some cooler weather and coons start moving at normal times!!
