Ok now I gotta make sure what Johnny Cakes are.

Are they what we always called Tater Cakes?

Hoe Cake that I was raised up calling it was cooked like cornbread in an iron skillet in the oven, but it was with thin biscuit batter so that it rose up nice and was soft without being grainy. You don't cut hoe cake either, it's too soft. You break you off a big piece.

At least that's what us hillbillys always called hoecakes. Daddy said they got their name from being able to just carry a little flour with you to the field and mix up flour and water and cook them on a hoe over a fire.

Tater Cakes is some good eatin. You use left over mashed taters to make them and fry them up on the stove, again in an iron skillet LOL.

Is that what Johnny Cakes are?

Oh and don't get me started on Bob Evans. That place ain't country cookin. That is city slicker cookin tryin to get passed off as country cookin. It's awful.

Yep that's my opinion of what hoecakes are. I'm not sure what kind of johnny cake these are that RRHound is eatin but they seem to be something different. Tater biscuits I know about. We could use some clarification .

BTW Corky...what is that in the pot on your stove? It looks like crowder peas cooked with fatback. I would not call that pea soup by itself. I would just call that peas.
