Glad to here she is showing, i have sold 2 in the last few days making room. i checked my calender last night 62 days from breeding will be 7-30-14. these will be some nice pups.

HUNT

Drake , Griffin , and myself went last night for a little while. We cut Andy, Rickett, and Sadie Mae loose. They struck in a bunch of blackberries and started moving a track into the hardwoods. They worked him down the creek and finally I heard Andy locate and load up. Sadie half heartedly treed with him and Rickett was milling around when we got there. Andy was up 3 bay trees growing together and we couldn't get the coon to look. We made it back to the truck and called it a night. We will hit it again tonight. This hot weather is rough on handler and dogs. I keep a water bowl and a gallon of water handy but man it is just HOT!! Looking forward to some cooler weather. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

HUNT

Drake and myself hunted last night. First drop we cut Cotton and my pup Cy around the edge of a cutover. the full moon was shining and I was afraid the coon movement would be minimal and I was right. The dogs left hard and were gone for about 20 minutes and complete silence. I looked at the Garmin and Cotton was 500 yds around the edge of the rough stuff but Cy was 375 yds across the bottom. We waited in silence for about another 30 minutes and I checked the Garmin again. Cotton 988 yds across the bottom and Cy over a mile the other way. We got in the truck and drove around within about 400 yds of Cy but Cotton was still deep in no man's land. I got out of the truck and Cy was hammering in there alone. We headed to him and he was treed around the edge of an old slough run. We couldn't see much of the tree and couldn't find his coon but I was very pleased that he came that far on his own and got hooked!! Cotton was opening sporatically in the bottom now so we moved up the hill where we could still hear her and cut Boozer and Drake's pup , REBEL loose. They stayed gone about 30 minutes down an old pipeline and ended up coming back. Never got a bark. Cotton soon gave her screaming locate and treed. She really treed hard and we moved around and got within 500 yds of her. We lit out and made our way to her. She was treed on a huge tree on the creek and we couldn't get it to look. Thinking about hitting a UKC hunt tonight at Tuscaloosa. Good luck to any Bluetickers hitting the hunts this weekend and Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Hunt

Went to Tuscaloosa last night to a UKC hunt and show. I won Ch female against two other ch's with Cotton to finish her to Grand Show Champion. I also showed Andy against 4 other males to eventually win Best of Show male. I hunted Andy in the hunt and didn't do any good. He had a first and first on a circle tree but then I had a first and first on a slick tree. Walker gup kept coming out to us and had lots of minus. Blue gyp split treed and had a slick tree. The blue gyp came out to us off track and got minused. Couldn't get after a coon track worth a flip. Andy has missed a couple lately on these berries and wild cherry trees. We will try again.

Congrats on your wins and finishing Cotton out to Gr. Sh. Champion! My hounds missed the other night to in a pine thicket full of blackberries. He was laid up in there somewhere but they weren't under him. We keep hunting them its gotta get better! Take care.

Appreciate it. Sure wanted that win on the hardwood but I guess it was just the plywood friday night!!
That ole Moon sure has been big and bright for the past few nights. I will be glad when it is gone.We got a little rain yesterday so that may help the tracking conditions a little. Coons around here are not hitting the corn yet. Way too many berries still hanging. Maybe they will get them eat up soon and hit that corn. I got a couple young ones needing to be started!! I'm going after them tonight so we will see what happens,

What a great looking hound!! I got to hunt with Lewey one night. He was a coondog! Ol Dixie and her mother Doll was owned by my good friend Brian James. They were really nice too. Doll had the prettiest ringing chop on tree you ever heard!

George and Steve I appreciate the kind words. He has got some horsepower to go with his looks. He makes some mistakes but he is always trying to make something happen. He has a best of show win on him now so hopefully I can have him ChNtCh soon.

HUNT

Drake and myself went for one drop last night. We cut Andy alone on the first drop and he left hard. He got struck in at about 450 yds and started working a bad track. He worked the track over 700 yds and was heading into no man's land. I drove around and caught him coming down a ditch that leads into a slough on the other side of the road. while I was loading him up I spotted a coon sitting up about 20 yds on the other side of the road. It was right on the ditch so I figure it was the coon he had been working. Should have let him go but there is a 2 lane paved road about 450 more yds thru that section and didn't want to take a chance. We were headed to make another drop with Cotton and Boozer when the wind started blowing the truck and the bottom just fell out. I got soaked just putting up the dogs. We called it a night and will hit it again Weds night. Gone take a break tonight, been hitting it hard and it has been some rough hunting on handler and hound.

HUNT

Whew!! Had a rough hunt last night. My headlights on my little Nissan hunting truck have been giving me fits about going out or not coming on when I need them. They went on the fritz last night. I finally got them working and got to the woods about 9:30. I hunted by myself. I cut Cotton and Cy loose up a creek bottom. There is a nice size cutover up the bottom and one to the right of the bottom. The dogs stayed gone for 45 minutes and had never struck. I finally heard Cy open deep and looked at the Garmin. They were together at about 600 yds in the middle of the cutover. Cotton soon opened and they started working a bad track. This cutover is about 10 feet tall with blackberry briars, pine trees and bushes. The dogs were really testing my nerves with this track when Cy loaded up treed. Cotton wanted no part of this tree and skipped out and kept moving. I finally got to Cy and he was treed on a huge cluster of blackberries that were growing up thru a small water oak tree. He hammered the tree and held pressure with Cotton screaming and squalling headed on thru that cutover. Only bad part is he had NOTHING!! I got him and sent him on to Cotton. They worked their way on thru that cutover and into a patch of good woods. Just on the other side of the good woods is another cutover. They were moving the track better and Cy decided he had the coon. He let out a huge locate and blowed the top out. I was a little skeptical as Cotton had located in the same spot just seconds before but moved on into the cutover. I fought the briars again and made my way to Cy. He was up a small pine with Blackberries and muscadine vines growing up in it. He had NOTHING!!! These blackberries have blown his mind. He is 9mths old , so I ain't worried about him missing in these berries right now but it sure ain't no fun fighting this crap for a slick tree. On a positive note he is a pressure TREE DOG!! He trees hard and doesn't mill or pay attention to nothing else. I looked at my watch and it was 12:45 am. I made my way to the truck and loaded Cy in the box. I moved around and finally got within 75 yds of Cotton and walked in close and called her to me. She was trying to cross into another huge cutover and 5:15 am comes early. I put up dogs and fed them. Finally hit the bed at about 1:45am. Fun day today!! I will hit it again tonight and hopefully have a better hunt. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

I went for a little while last night. Drake went with me and we took Andy, Boozer and a couple pups. I don't like to turn loose very many dogs at a time but it gets dark so late we decided to cut all 4 dogs. The pups were Rebel ( Logan X Bell) and Pearl ( Razor x Uchtman's Blue Lady).
Both pups have been on a chain and have been taken one time each. They are about 6 mths old. We cut the dogs and both pups went hunting good. They went about 475 yards and Andy struck. Boozer struck a few minutes later but was left handed of Andy. Andy drifted out and soon was 900 yds left handed opening sporatically. Boozer had hushed and after about 30 minutes came back to the truck. We loaded him up and the pups were in the bottom on the creek and opening every once in awhile. Andy had gotten nearly a mile deep and had gotten in a deep holler in a pine thicket. We had to drive around and got within 700 yds of him and he was treed. He had been there awhile and I could tell he was hot. We made our way thru the pine thicket and came out in about a 1 acre patch of good hardwood left on a small ditch. Andy was treed up a water oak and had the coon. We gave him a pat on the head and made our way to the truck. We got back around to the spot we cut loose and had to walk in and get the pups. They were about 250 yds down the bottom. Looked at my watch and it was 11:30. We decided to call it a night. Sure will be glad when these blackberries are gone. I'm still picking briars out of my hands, fingers, and arms this morning.

HUNT

Drake and myself hunted for a while Saturday night. First drop we cut Cotton and Cy. They left hard and about 30 minutes later and nearly a mile deep we never got a bark. I caught them trying to cross a small paved road coming up a ditch of water. Next drop we cut Andy and my pup Pearl down an old powerline with blackberries growing everywhere. My pup didn't hunt well and we loaded her up. Andy went down the powerline and made a left into a pine thicket. He made his way thru the thicket and onto a gravel road about .975 of a mile from where we cut him. Drove around and called him out as he was getting close to some houses. Next drop we cut Cotton and Andy down a hardwood holler. They left hard and went across the entire bottom and came out on an old oil well pad. Over a mile thru there to the pad. Three drops and a lot of territory covered and not a bark!!! Last drop we cut Cotton and Andy into a cutover with about 15 to 20 foot pine trees and briars and berries. Andy struck and then Cotton. THey worked a track in there for the longest and it wasn't getting any better. At about 1:00 am I started calling them. Cotton finally got close and I caught her up. Andy got treed up a pine tree with berries all up on it. I didn't see a coon. Sure wasn't our best night but we will try again tonight!!

Went by myself last night. I cut Cotton and Boozer right down the middle of a cutover/pine thicket. Cotton struck in at 365 yards and Boozer struck right behind her. They moved the track thru the cutover and had a little trouble a few times but got it lined on out. They moved the track out of the cutover and into the timber in the bottom. they crossed the creek a few times and did a good job of keeping the track moving. It wasn't a very good track. Coons seem to be moving very early here as you turn loose at dark and strike a sorry track. I drove around and got within 200 yards of the dogs and finally heard Cotton let out a screaming locate with Boozer right behind her. They treed good and I made my way to the tree. They were in good open woods which was a relief from the blackberry bushes and cutover I been wading thru lately. They had a coon and I petted them on the head and made my way back to the truck. I looked at my watch and it was 10:30. I decided to just call it a night. I will hit it again Weds night.

GLOOM,DESPAIR, AND AGONY ON ME!!

Boy I need to hang a rabbits foot on my mirror of something. Had a cage coon last night to mess with my pups. I set it off the truck and went to load up pups. I got back down to the field where I left the coon and my tailgate handle broke. Took me forever to get the tailgate down. Finally got it down and I walked around and snapped a dog leash on the cage. I told a young man that was with me to let the pups out and they hit the field road and ran away. I had to go gather them back up and bring them back. I walked around to the cage and the spring had came loose and my coon was gone. He had been in the cage for a few days and I guess didn't have a lot of smell. The pups trailed around but never did much with it. Headed back up to the kennel and put up pups and loaded up Andy and Cy to go hunting. I was frustrated about the tailgate, coon, and it was 9:15 pm. I was taking the young man home and headed hunting when 3 deer ran out in front of me. I hit one of them and that is the 3rd one this year in the Nissan and also hit one in my work truck!! Luckily it hit the bull bar on the front and did minimal damage. By now it is 10:00 and I just turned around and put the dogs in the kennel and went home!!
Maybe I will try tonight or maybe I need to just stay home!!
