Tonight was second hand smokes fourth time in the woods. He ran track good and treed a while came of a while and went back to treeing. Smoke and hic scalded one 500 yards and it was wanting to bale. Then cut hic loose by herself she hit some old stuff here and there then finally treed one about 600 in. We've both been working a ton and have hunted very little since Christmas. Got two outta wendy that needs time in the woods. Too many young ones. I didn't want to sell Leggs but u can't turn down that kind of money for a young one. She just needed a few finishing touches to be pretty jam up. A guy needs to focus on one at a time. We got our hands full. I personally would rather finish a started Dog I'm much better at that. I don't have enough patients with pups. But I guess that weeds out all the slow starters. Lol. Plus its harder to buy a good started one anymore.

sounds like Hic might the one for this year for you guy,s to push towards the hunts, It,s super easy to get overloaded with pups and young dogs, I have two females, Ali and liza jane, I think a young man I hunt with some is going to buy Ali, He will hunt her quiet a bit, And I can focus in on Liza Jane one on one, plus been helping my son-n-law with Ruger in the last few weeks, he don,t hunt that pup near as much as he should, that young dog has a natural born hatred for a coon, good luck with Hic and the rest of the gang......Gerald

Hic and smoke treed one in short order last night. Smoke is out of shape from being in retirement for the last three months but he can sure tree a lot of coon quickly. Hic treed really hard last night. She's getting up over 100 to 120 bpm.

Went with brownie and his black n tans tonight I took hic. Hic and fox treed one quickly then sent hic and cash they had a runner and got him treed after making several losses in the process. All dogs looked good. Hics starting to get more solid every time.

Brownie came over with his black dogs tonight. He sent fox I sent hic. Fox got treed 3/4 mile on a den tree took a lot of pressure. Hic was still running and got treed about 100 yds away with one. Sent hic brownie sent cash they went wrong direction got in some pits jumped one off a pit down a ditch running hard got treed on a huge hedge but couldn't find him. Just glad we didn't have to walk through dumps.

Im glad we didnt have to go in the pits eather. Hic is a differnt dog from the last time I was out with her when she was a pup and looked good the last few nights.

Thanks, all the dogs out of that litter are makeing exceptional pups. They all seam to have that extra drive that smoke has. The other crosses are looking like they will be the same. Natural tree dogs that push a track alittle harder then most do. They are just comming of age to hunt and they are getting it done.
Got a call from Brian and his smoke pup is turning it on and he is getting ready to put her im some hunts starting next month.
Wendy is going to have pups again and she will welp around April 5th. Geat cross last time. BBOA NATIONAL QUEEN in 2009 and Smoke is last years BBOA NATIONAL KING OF HUNT.

Brian called to tell me about his female out of smoke. Hunted her last night by her self for the first time and she hit and treed 50 to 60 yards from the truck. He said he was still closeing the tailgate and was treed and had the meat. Next dump she opened in about 350 yrds amd worked a bad track up to runnin amd treed a den
then cut her on a fence row and she hit and run it like she was lookin at it and treed another one on the outside. He is super excited about her. Sounds like she will be a good one.

Just give us a call when Missey is ready. Smoke is allways ready. He just loves to meet new girls!! LOL

Got a call from Jacob Hanson and he lost one of his Smoke pups to parvo and the other one is fighting. He wants another Smoke pup. He is getting one from the Smoke and Windy cross that will be born next week.
Speaking of Wendy pups I have three females spoken for at this time. If any one is wanting pups get with me. Last litter of pups from this cross all sold befor they were born.

Getting real good reports back on all of the Smoke pups. Every one is commenting on how smart they are and that they are over the top with desire. One guy from Erie Ks. has a pair that at 4 months old are going to the woods on their own and getting treed. Most guys that Iv'e talked to said their pups are exceptional and starting really early.

Wendy was the BBOA National Queen of Hunt in 2009. She is a dual Grand. This is the second time we have made this cross and we are excited. Last cross are make really nice dogs with a ton of fire and desire.

I haven't had but one person ask about these pups out of candy and smoke and he mentioned something about one of the Dogs in smokes pedigree that he didnt like. Really. I should be like the rest of the bluetickers and not share good blood. just keep the whole litter until I know witch ones r going be the next walker spanker and sell the rest as left overs. Oh wait their wont be any in this litter. crossing blood that dont mix much is what needs to happen no matter what blood line team ur on. I know for sure when I looked over at smoke and his actions. I had a instinct to breed to that dog no matter what blood he was. It helped confirm my thoughts when I found out he come from winners it was a no brainer. Oh well the satifaction well come back To me when one of those 1500 people that has hit on the thread get spanked by one these pups. I hope they remember that they were forsale to the public at one time. Thanks for reading and letting me vent. Norm

Guess I should have warned you about hanging around with folks on this side of the tracks. Wins don,t matter unless it is ones own popular line. Then they are a big deal. I could take any ped out there and find fault with prob more then one dog in it. Can't for one minute believe that there are lines so pure that you can' t fault atleast one dog in it. It comes down to WHO owns the hounds more then anything.
When you took a look at ole smoke you inquired about performace, history, and achievements. These merit alot to breeders going forward and wanting to improve the breed and what you and I are hunting personaly.Too many want to go on popular opinion of the crowd and don't have the guts to step out of the box.
I know where you are comming from in your disapointment. But how others act, react and respond only motivates me to try harder. Smoke is not perfect, in fact not too long ago he minused out in a hunt in two drops. But being a first and first type dog that is going to happen. But watch out next hunt because he is going to be first and first and be the cast winner. He competes hard. Just might put the retirement thing off for one more year and make another run with him. His win percentages are good enough that he still has a lot to show in the woods and on the score card.
Guess I could buy half of Candys litter and put them in the hunts to prove a point. Think about it and let me know.

sure hope you and Timmi continue to push smoke in the hunts, In my opinion retirement of super nice blues comes far to soon, I think that is one thing that some times holds us back as a breed from winning as big as we would like, I know there is risk involved when you turn one loose, But I believe smoke has to much to offer to hang the spurs up right now, I would like to see him Qualified again this year and make one more run at it, you never know, the only thing we know for sure, is that if you don,t enter you can,t win,

Norm, you bred for coon dogs that can make a difference, All you have to do now is reap the benefits, there will be a load of hunters that will say, man I should have got one of those pups, there are some nice studs out there, even some you could have maybe sold pups off of faster due to who owns them and junk like that, politics' But none that would give you more of a chance of producing coon treeing machines, hang in there, and enjoy the fruit,s of your wisdom.......Gerald
