Heading out this afternoon for Eldon Iowa and Bluetick Days. If not for the wife we would not be going, she is holding down the fort and taking care of the hounds and of coarse Ollie, Corey's English Bull Dog, Ollie is kind a like Corey hard headed!! Only problem is with the wife taking care of them she thinks they are always hungry so she always finds special treats for them! My goal is to take it easy and relax, see some old friends and see some good Blue dogs at work. Hoping for good weather and a good turn out. Safe travel to all the hunters heading this way!

Thursday night hunt did not go as planned, hit fairly quick out of the truck and they treed in the ground. Dogs split up and right before hunt being over one treed with a coon. Drove around to pick up Riptide and another hound, Riptide never made another bark on the night. The hound that had the one coon had 125 plus I think. Hope for at least two tracks tonight!!

Hunted Horn last night and overall a pretty good night. Our first dump had too cover a lot of ground but finally got treed along a big creek in small tree with the meat. Second track was red hot, slammed it in a cider tree and had it! Third track, ran an old bad track for about 450 yards in some rough stuff and treed a big pine tree and had it. Horn was setting most of the time on all trees, now that is different!

Bubba / Misfire puppies are here, as of this morning there are (7) that have made it, lost the runt. These all look like there are doing fine this morning and the rain and cooler Temp. is helping both Misfire and the pups. Suppose to heat back up Friday but we are ready for that too. We will keep you updated and hope to have them sexed in the upcoming days, may have a few pictures.

I have noticed a lot of hunters having hounds with either Lyme, Borrelia or Erlichia and hunting them this hot weather. I'm no vet but from my experience when a hound has any one of these you won't be treeing many conons in this heat, next thing I feel they really do not care about the hound they are hunting if they are hunting it in this type of weather with any one of these. Had one hell of a hound have a heat stroke and was never right after that, about lost him all together. My be getting soft but if I keep a hound I like it! Water, fans and plenty of shade for the time being, safe hunting guys!

Riptide was AI three times and nothing. Live breed three times, first litter he was breed to a Son bitch and she had (13) and only (7) made it, not a good mother, just turned (2). We had one that got hit about 16 months old, was looking very good. One litter mate has a first place and don't know if anything else. As to the other 5 two have never been hunted but very little at year old, one in Tenn will do o.k.. One or two in New York and never heard anything. 2nd litter bitch had 6 and only 2 lived. One in Michigan and heard was doing o.k. and one I had no longer with me! Third litter (7) lived and one was hunted in Super Stakes and did o.k.for under a year old. The one I had barked in the woods way too much for me, hunted, ran and treed just too much barking, can't stand it! No pups in MO that I know of. IN, Ill, KY, NY, Michigan, Tenn. I was looking for one better than him, one at 16 months was but other (2) did not please me. I'm not like some and breed to be breeding and hope to get one. Three litters was enough for me, he is a nice, very nice hound but that does not make a reproducer, but will say Im a firm beleiver the female is 60% of it. We breed too a few good bitches and try to breed to coon dogs but some don't make it anyhow. We are hampered a little as we don't have the option to keep a bunch and pick one, live in town so we are limited. I have tried several pups out of other crosses and they too did not stay here, hell some did not make it but a few weeks. Some mess all over the kennel like idiots, some bark no stop and pen pacers, they are lucky to make it a few weeks. I'm not like some and think there is only one line that can get it done. If they will not run and tree at 9 months, bang they are gone! I have gave a few away that would make just a an old coon dog and gave some away that sold for 3 to 5 thousand, go figure!! Any other questions just give me a call.

No problem, we were just talking about this the other day oursleves. What some call a coon dog and what I do more times than not would not stay at my house. A hound has to have a handle, does not run junk, trees its has something a very high percentage of the time, and last but not least a babbling idiots as I call them. Too many hounds have a good nose as they hit a coon everywhere they are dropped and run most of them a mile or so if you know what I mean.

I would like to think I have a couple of hounds that fit their title but may just be kidding myself . All mine mind better than my kids, but than again maybe my kids are brats lol. I enjoy hunting then and ain't went home mad it them in a couple nights anyhow. Thanks again for being straight up.
