We never got a drop, if it weren't for the dew I think all the plants would be gone. I'm with you Mike, we need a new dancer, maybe one from the " GENTLEMAN'S CLUB " from Neoga. You may have to get your's from the PINK PONY.

A limb can't even get up in a tree. I would fall out.

When I use to deer hunt, my tree stands were made out of pallets--the bigger the better. And ladders were made out of 2x4's, you can have them climbers. I had condo's but wasn't about too fall asleep and fall out. I shot more deer on the ground or up on a hill side than the stands. I aint too picky when it comes to deer--eat them does and left the bucks.

Posted by Mike Milam on 08-21-2011 08:13 PM:

I took the first deer that came by me. Long as it wasn't a fawn. Deer hunters today they want that big buck. The meat is as good as a doe or a young buck. I hunted for the meat. Can't eat those antlers. I think that is how the deer herd got out of control. To many buck hunters. Back in the 50's and 60's when I would go coon hunting if you seen a deer that was a big deal. Now they cause lots of car damage.

I found you can't tell the difference between a young doe and an old buck ,if you make them into smokey links...it all tastes good...2 more coons killed on the river hill last night..one big coon one small coon ,laying 3 feet apart....i never seen my first deer till I was 10 years old...if you seen a track you stood and marveled at it.back in the 60's dad would go to southern IL. to deer hunt cause there wernt none here..[Olive branch ,karbers ridge horseshoe lake].dad said when he was young coon tracks were the same way ..they would drive around and check the creeks just to see if they could see a coon track..and if they did they would hunt that spot 4 or 5 time in week just to get a track struck...tell those young guys that now and look at you like your nuts....

Thats a fact Spotty--I remember our dads talkin' that, and said if you got 10-15 coons a year you really had a good year. And possums were ok then too. They said the club imported coons in from out of state to get the population up. The last year me and dad hunted 1982 we went from the house to airtight and not one coon track in the creeks. He said it was 1950's all over again. That was when the 70's high hide prices took its toll on game. Me and Pete were huntin' at snake trail one nite and here come a road hunter shinnin' out of his pickup, braggin' about his two coon he shot from the heat of the cab.

I remember the club buying 42 coons out of Fla. one time in the 60's.almost half died during shipping...but surely some of them they turned loose made it ,with fox ridge right there .not only the shiners back then but there was a trap in every tin horn...

And barn, old house, and corn crib. I heard of guys shootin' 'em in side of barns with not a care in the world about the holes they put in the roof. I told Jessie back in the 70's coonhunters were hated about as much as a logger.

Posted by Mike Milam on 08-22-2011 02:28 AM:

They got a real bad name back then.

Did you guys ever eat coon? Mom use to barbecue it it was pretty good. Bus driver asked me one day what I had for supper told him barbecue coon thought he was going to barf. Offered to bring him sandwich but he didn't want nothing to do with it. Mom use to can carp to and TD said he would never eat carp but he did and didn't even know what it was. Took some goat chili to a church picnic one time didn't tell what it was till it was all gone. Some said really good others said what!! Just goes to show if you don't know what your eating doesn't bother you. Mike how are the pups? Linda

Posted by Mike Milam on 08-22-2011 04:13 AM:

Pups are doing great. Fat as butterball. She is really a good momma. The coon club I was a member of all ways had a feed before coon season came in. They would bar-b-cue 10-15 coons and they were delicious. I still love today. When I was a Game Warden we would go down and check the Commercial Fisherman when they would come in running their nets. They would all ways give us 50-60 pound carp and 50-60 buffalo. We would fillet them up and they would be delicious. We would deep fry them and talk about lot of fish to eat we had them.

She forgot to tell you that first taste of carp weren't bad till I got a bite of the second one and tasted the mud vein. But clean 'em out good and it was not bad. Have a dandy day.

Posted by Mike Milam on 08-22-2011 01:14 PM:

Have a good day TD. Not to bad this morning but they are saying it is going to be a hot one today.
