HUNT

Went for a few drops last night. That ole moon was sure shining bright. Didn't even need a light. First drop I cut Cotton and Cy loose up a slash bottom. Cotton struck in at 300 yds and started working a track. She didn't open much but was steadily moving deeper. She soon loaded up right and we headed in to her. We got to her and she was treed right next to a slough run. I looked and looked but just couldn't get the coon to look. We finally gave up and moved. Next drop I cut Andy alone. He went about 200 yds and fell treed in a small beaver pond. We got there and there were about 3 trees together and same scenario, couldn't get the coon to look. I cut him off that tree and he struck in at 350 yds. He started a bad track and drifted deeper and deeper up a small creek. He finally let out his locate and lit up the bottom. He was 875 yds and we headed to him. He treed in the edge of a pasture, up a huge poplar tree. I backed way off and seen the coon look one time and never got it to look again. I called it a night and rolled in at 12:30. Got a tick off my leg this morning. Got to love it to hit the woods hard this time of the year. Ticks, snakes, and mosquitos are everywhere!! Guess I'm too crazy to just stay at home. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Lance we definitely are going to try to make it to Lawley to the BBOA youth national hunt. Drake will hunt something for me for sure.

Going to pick up a 3 year old male tomorrow. got him on trial for a month going to see if I like him. He's GrandShow and suppose to be a nice dog in woods just never been put in hunt, will see. ill keep you updated on him.

PUPS

I have decided that I need to thin down on some pups. I'm going to sell my 6 mth old Mad dog bred pup and one of my Logan x Dixie males. They are performance nominated and ready to start. I have messed with them with some drags and coon scent. If you need a good pup to fool with let me know,

HUNT

Rough night to hunt last night. Spitting rain and the wind blowing about 50 mph. First drop I cut Andy alone in some hardwood timber in the hills. He went down the holler and struck about 275 yds on a small branch. He worked the track up the holler and went up the hill on the other side. there are planted pines on that side of the hill. He worked the track good but did get hung up one time. He gave me a half hearted locate but hushed and soon opened about 40 yds on past where he located. He soon came on a tree right. He was about 500 yds from us and we started to him. He was treed on a small tree with muscadine vines everywhere. I sort of talked bad about him under my breath when I seen where he was treed. He was hammering and I had to drag him off it to tie him back. I backed out in a powerline and the wind was blowing hard. I soon spotted the coon in a larger tree and all the vines ran into that tree from the small tree. I had to go repent to him for talking bad under my breath!!LOL Andy is impressing me over the last few times I have hunted him. He is a nice hound and we are going to be hitting some hunts soon.
Next drop I cut Cotton alone in a different hardwood patch in the hills. It started raining and the wind blowing harder. She went 600 yds down the holler and never struck. She came out on the road and I caught her up. I still hadn't had enough so I cut Cotton and Andy loose. It started raining pretty good and a tree blew over right down the logging road from us!! Both dogs came out on a gravel road and never struck. We called it a night and will hit the woods again tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

First drop last night I cut Cotton and Cy. Cotton headed down the bottom and complete silence for about 30 minutes. I checked the Garmin and she was 800 yds deep. We pulled around a field road to get closer and I heard her open in a beaver pond. She opened here and there and drifted deeper and got quiet for a couple of minutes. Then BAM, she loaded up right and hammered. Cy opened a few times but didn't get fired up too much. We waded mud and water and got to her treed up a sweet gum tree. I looked for a while and couldn't get it to look, so I stepped back in an opening and hit it with the spot light and found the coon. Got ole Cy fired up at the tree. He is on the verge of flipping the switch but hasn't go it all figured out yet. He has treed a turn loose coon a couple times but is still figuring things out on these bad tracks.
Next drop I cut Andy and Cricket ( Cy's sister ) Loose in the hills. They stayed gone for a good while and Andy had got fairly deep. He was about 500 yds or so and I heard him just load up treed. We made it to him and he was in some big hardwood timber. He was on a huge red oak and we looked for a long time but couldn't find his coon. By the time we made it out and got to the truck it was 11:00 oclock and we called it a night.
Taking off tonight for a birthday party and hitting a RQE tomorrow night.

FIRST DROP WAS IN A PINE THICKET (OLD STRIP PIT) SHE GOT IN THERE 680 YARD AND HADN'T GOT STRUCK MOVED TOWARD HER SHE GOT ANOTHER 800 YARD AND FINALLY GOT INTO SOME GOOD TIMBER AND TREED. LOOKED BUT COULDN'T FIND THE COON. NEXT DROP WAS IN SOME PRETTY GOOD TIMBER (WE THOUGHT) TURNED OUT TO BE AN OLD THICK CUT OVER SHE GOT IN THERE 480 YARDS STRUCK AND MOVED THE TRACK BACK TOWARDS US AND SET DOWN TREED ABOUT 300 YARDS ACROSS A CREEK FROM US. ALL OF US GOT WET. LOOKED LIKE A BIG DEN TREE. WE HAD ABOUT 10 MINUTES LEFT IN THE HUNT WITH NO OPTION BUT TO WITHDRAW HER AND HEAD HOME. I GOT IN ABOUT 2:30 GOT A SHOWER AND BACK AT WORK THIS MORNING. WE WILL BE GETTING READY FOR GOODSPRINGS TONIGHT. GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY TONIGHT AND KEEP UM LOOKIN UP. TRENT

Hunt

Went over to Good Springs last night. Made it over there at 5:02 pm and show deadline was 5:00. It didn't get much better in the hunt. First drop dogs struck on the creek. Cotton didn't open snd got last strike. Dogs treed and Cotton split treed. Finally seen their coon and Cotton was on a den. Next drop Cotton got 1st strike. Worked a track down creek alone. Two dogs treed deeper and couldn't find coon. Started pouring rain. Cotton treed but we couldn't dven see the tree it was raining so hard. We made one more tree but couldn't see it either. We will keep plugging along.

HUNT

Cody thanks for the compliment. He is a big headed, good looking rascal for sure!!

Went for a little while last night. I had a coon and cut it loose. I waited about 10 minutes and cut Cy loose on him. Cy is 8 mths old and has treed a couple hot coons but is a little inconsistent. He opened good and got the track going but it hit the water in the bottom and it fell apart on him. I left him in there with it and moved down the bottom and cut Jim and Sadie Mae loose. Jim hit a track and started opening sporatically in the bottom and out in the edge of a field. Sadie was opening every once in awhile as well. Heck wasn't much going on, so I moved on down the bottom and cut Andy and my nephew cut Rickett. Andy left in a dead run and soon struck in the bottom. He started working a track and Rickett put in with him. It wasn't a good track and Rickett soon got bogged down. Andy kept skipping out and soon loaded up and treed right. We drove around and made our way to the tree. Rickett soon showed up and bellowed out ME TOO!! Wasn't long til Jim showed up and Bellowed ME THREE!! LOL Sadie Mae showed up soon after. Andy had his coon up a bay tree. We gathered all the dogs up and went back to call out Cy. We called it a night and came home.

DARREN WEDGE IS SETTLING IN PRETTY GOOD AT HIS NEW HOME. DRAKE AND GAGE ARE FIGHTING OVER WHO'S GOING TO FEED HIM AND GET HIM OUT OF THE PEN. SO IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO WEDGE MIGHT NOT HAVE ANY HAIR LEFT ON HIM. THEY ARE ALREADY TRYING TO PUT HIM ON THE BENCH TO GET READY FOR BBOA SHOW IN LAWLEY.

I like to see the younger ones get involved in the sport of coonhunting. They are at a good age to learn from the pup as much as the pup learns from them,
