I know one thing for sure. A good snake is a dead snake. I kill every one of them suckers I see unless it is a king snake or a rat snake.

Thanks for the compliments. Every time someone hunts with her for the first time they are always commenting about her locate and what a tree dog she is most if the time. Darren

HUNT

Hunted last night for a little while.First drop we cut Cotton alone in a small creek bottom. She went about 300 yds and I heard her open 1 time and fell treed. She blowed the top out and we took our time going to her. We got to her tree and started shining and I couldn't see the coon. Drake said , " I know she has got him". I walked to the other side of the tree and there was a big hole in the side. I got where I could look up in the hole and there was a coon tail hanging down in plain view. Drake was right, she had him. We cut her off that tree and she struck at about 150 yds and worked a good track towards the creek. She gave a couple half hearted locates and was treeing but not right. We got to her and she was treeing on a high wall cliff that she couldn't get up. It was a sheer wall of rock. That ole coon was smart. Next drop we cut Andy alone. He went up the creek but kept trying to cross under the road. I finally caught him up and moved. He would be headed to a highway if he crossed under the bridge. We cut him in a different place and he struck in at 400 yds. He worked a track down the creek and up a deep ditch that comes from a beaver pond. He got treed but wasn't right. We got to him and he was on a huge blow down that fell out in the beaver pond. He just missed him. I am seeing a lot of things I like about Andy but I can tell he is rusty and is having to adjust to my hunting territory. He hunts hard, has a good mouth and is a good track dog. I am impressed with his nose and his ability to move a bad track out and get it going. We will know how good he can be in a few more weeks.We called it a night and got home at around 11:30. Drake has a cattle judging for school today so I got him on home fairly early. We have a UKC hunt at our club tonight. gone hunt Cotton and Andy or BB. BB is due in heat and can act silly at that time. Drake and myself met Rick Jordan in Fayette to deliver LOGAN to him. LOGAN is headed back to Wisconsin to Scott's kennel. I think Scott has a couple of gyps lined up to breed to him. Banjo will be coming down to Alabama for a few weeks. He will be here at Southern Bluetick Kennels. Trent Widner and myself will be breeding Dolly to him. Micheal Bowling will be breeding a heavy Smokey River Gyp to him. GOOD LUCK TO ALL BLUETICKERS IN THE HUNTS THIS WEEKEND. YALL PUT IT ON EM!!!!

Thanks for the compliments on the dogs. You can make one sound better than it is on this internet but I always tell it like it happens. Good and bad. I have some dogs here that will tree coons without help but they ain't perfect by any means. I am very picky about certain things I like in a dog. Main thing I do is hunt the hair off of them and try to develop the instincts they were HOPEFULLY born with. Thanks again and I need to get over and hunt with you. Darren

Hunt

Hunted in a UKC hunt last night. I hunted Andy to see how he would operate with strange dogs. I liked what I saw. I drew a NtCh walker male and a 4 yr old English male with 2 first places. First drop Andy got 1st strike and started a bad track the other two put in and Andy soon located but I hesitated and the walker male got 1st tree and I got 2nd tree. Huge leafy tree no coon seen. Circle. Next drop I got 1st and 1st. English backed. Den. Walker split huge oak tree. Circle. Last drop Andy got 1st strike and worked a track. Other two got struck in and Andy gave me a half locate. I held off but walker handler jumped on it. Walker dog moved and got minus. Andy loaded up rightand I booked him for 1st tree. English backed him and walker split. Two huge trees. Both circle. I won cast with 625 circle but that's about like kissing your sister. Y'all keep em Lookin up!! Darren

Hunt

Gone get after them tomorrow night.
Got GrNtChGrCh Pr Makin Music Banjo at the kennel yesterday. Got a heavy Smokey River gyp to be bred to him this week.
Waiting on The Dolly gup owned by myself and Trent Widner to come in heat as well. She will be bred to Banjo. She has her 1st place win and is about to be hitting the hunts to get her NtCh.

HUNT

Went for awhile last night. I took Cotton, Andy and Cy. Had a guy call me and said coons were digging up his corn seed that he had planted and wanted coons killed. Drake and myself headed up that way last night. Turned loose in some hills that had some fairly good timber. Andy struck down on the creek and Cotton soon put in with him. They headed down the creek and got deep. We drove on down to get closer to the dogs and it was soon evident that the dogs had split up. It wasn't too much longer when I heard Cotton load up and tree. Andy was about 300 yds past her but had gotten quiet. We drove around for 45 minutes with these guys telling me we could get close to her. I finally came back to where we cut loose and headed out to her. We got about half way there and Andy came in and backed her. As we got closer we came to a sheer drop off with a creek at the bottom. We made our way to the right and finally found a place to get down. We walked up the creek between two sheer rock walls. As I got closer I realized Cotton was up on the top at the other side. I finally found a two foot wide trail between the rock that went to the top. We got up there and Cotton was on a den tree. Andy had been on the same track but couldn't get up the rock wall. I'm not sure how Cotton got up there but she did!! Andy went way around according to the Garmin and must have found somewhere he could get up to the top and came back to Cotton. We finally made our way out of there and back to the truck. I will take my snakes and water all day long over them dang bluffs and rock walls!!

HUNT

Didn't get to go last night and Drake had to work. He got him a job at the local grocery store. He is a hard worker and I'm proud of him. I am going to hit it tonight alone I guess. Drake has to work and I'm gone hunt some dogs alone again. I like hunting them all alone and you know what you got. If it don't go hunting alone, it don't eat my feed for very long. There are some exciting crosses out there in the bluetick world right now and I hope some of them are successful. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Hunt

It has been an unusual week for me. I hunted Monday night but had some things come up and didn't get to go til last night. Drake and myself took Cy , Cricket , Andy and Cotton for a little round. I had a coon and we intended to cut him across and open field towards the bottom and of course that didn't go as planned. I set the coon down and walked to truck to get Garmin synced and get dogs collared up. I heard something behind me and the dang coon came right by me and went up a pine tree in the edge of the woods. He laid a whopping 20 yd track!! We waited and got Cy and Cricket out and cut them towards the track. They both wheeled around and started working the track but ran right by the tree. Cy went 100 yds in the woods but ended up coming back and eventually treed on the pine tree. Those pines have some slick bark and that coon lost his grip and fell out. Cy got hit pretty good on the nose but it done him some good.
We regrouped and Cut the two pups along with Cotton and Andy. Andy struck and started a track. Cotton put in and soon Andy loaded up with Cotton right behind him. Huge den in a lilly pad swamp. We cut off that tree and Cotton went left and Andy right. Cotton opened a few times and hushed and Andy opened 275 yds on down the bottom. Andy soon loaded up again. Cotton was his direction but ended up split treed. Tall trees with all this canopy and we didn't see either coon. Walked about 60 yds and recut. Cotton struck, followed by Andy. They ran a good track up a holler that has some backwater from the bottom going up thru it. Great place to tree a coon. Both dogs BLOW UP on a tree and hammer it. Got in there and I know they had that coon but I just couldn't get anywhere to see other than a few spots. Very frustrating time of the year. Last year I carried an aluminum baseball bat to the tree and I have got to hunt it up again. Finally caught Cy up as he had been doing his own thing. He is getting very independent and I like it. It can be aggravating at times but I like one with a mind of his own.
Trent Widner has been giving me some updates on Dolley and she has been producing for him. She has came on and made a nice female. Trent is going to be hitting the hunts and shows with her.

DARREN, DOLLY HAS COME ALONG WAY,BUT STILL HAS HER FAULTS JUST LIKE EVERY DOG. WITH ALOT MORE HUNTING MAYBE I CAN MINIMIZE THOSE FAULT TO MAKE A REALLY NICE GYP. I,M TRYING TO KEEP HER LOOKING UP AS MUCH AS I CAN. 4 NIGHTS THIS WEEK AND 2 MORE TO GO. SUNDAY NIGHT SHE GOT TREED ACROSS FLINT CREEK FROM US AND WE LOST ALL SIGNAL ON THE GARMIN AND COULDN'T HERE HER . COME TO FIND OUT SHE WAS IN THE DEN TREE (ALL OF HER BODY) FINALY SHE CAME BACKING OUT AND WE GOT HER SWIM BACK TO US.

Hunt

Went for a little while last night by myself.
I cut Cotton alone in bottom. She struck at about 360 yds and started a track. It wasn't very good and she banged around on it for awhile. She got it going but bogged down a couple times. She got deep and got treed right. I got to her and she was on a small tree running into a big den. I have treed in this den before. I got her gathered up and moved to a different spot. I cut Andy and BB. They left hard and there was complete silence. BB ended up coming out on a dirt road about 600 yds from where I cut them. I caught her up. Andy struck in at about 800 yds and worked a track down a small branch. He soon loaded up and made my way in to him. Treed up a big poplar and I couldn't get the coon to look. 1:00 am and I called it a night.

Trent took Dolly to a hunt and show in Arab. His wife Tabitha showed her and won best of show female. She needs just 15 points now to be CH. Congrats to Tabitha as this was only her second time to show.
