Wayne Wilmoth

Had a great call from Wayne Wilmoth. We had last spoken at this years Grand American in Orangeburg, SC. We talked about good dogs and good people-with a good portion of our time spent on his brother Francis, our friend Larry Taylor and Old Solid Rock. We both agreed that Jimmy Carter was also a good man but his efforts in the White House ended differently. Mrs. Carter, Jimmy's Mother had wanted Billy to be President but did not think Jimmy was capable of running the Service Station. My thoughts right now are on the people this Memorial Day is meant to honor. Without the sacrifices of those individuals and their families this country would not exist. No Veterans? No America!

Got up bright and early Sunday morning, loaded Brad Henson's Delta female in the dog box and set out to meet Keith Tate and his wife just above Birmingham, Alabama. Had a short good visit with these two over breakfast then drove the 250 miles back here. Ed called me Sunday night and told me that he is scheduled for a procedure down in Ann Arbor on Wednesday. Please include Ed in your prayers and hope he has a successful operation and a complete and speedy recovery. All of you that have hunted with him know how hard it is to keep Ed out of the woods and to get him to just take it easy for a little while-I'll include that wish in my prayers as well. As soon as any of us know something we will get the word to you. Thanks!

Bobby Carter and I came up with the grand idea to go to a hunt in South Georgia last night. Dark clouds followed us to the Club House and thunder, lighting and then heavy rain started falling prior to the 9pm deadline for entries. We had that "sense we are already here" mentality and signed up I Love Lucy. We were then informed rather jubilantly by an overconfident handler that we had drawn "X something or other"-the Florida State Champion. He then told us he could not seem to get away from -"them possum treeing Blue Dogs!" After he scratched on a possum- that I was so happy to point out to him that X had treed, that poor old, slow, inferior bred Bluetick treed way in yonder. My spirits were not dampened one bit and I was happy to point out not one but three more Raccoons in her tree. This was Lucy's 5th win. So all in all our idea was indeed a GRAND one for I Love Lucy.

Thanks!

Ed's procedure will be done in the near future. His hospital visit last week was to determine what was needed. Terry Tucker and Scott Phillips are close by, in touch and will keep us informed. Ed did give me some good reports on pups he has from different litters and that included the young dog he is calling 10. He was asking about my young dogs that he had hunted with on his last trip here and Lucy. She will be 3 in August. Bobby and I put her in 6 hunts. Bobby had never handled a dog in competition and he handled her on 4 of the wins. I will try to post her pedigree. (So much for good intentions-after several edits-the heck with that) It previews one way and then post completely different. With any luck Lucy will get a few wins on the Bench and be bred once she comes in heat. I was glad to get her back, glad to have her here to hunt and look forward to what the future has in store. Question: Are you hunting dogs whose dams are as good as their sires? If you answered No-then perhaps that is part of the problem. Just food for thought.

Just got in. Rain messed up plans for hunts the last two nights, so I turned in early last night and woke up about 3:30am. Loaded my young Jet dog. When I turned him loose he shot down a right of way while I was getting my stuff straight. I called him back and sent him the direction I wanted him to go which was an old timber road in the swamp which borders a pond. He is running away from me when he stops, whirls around with his nose to the ground-coons have a path across this old road. Opens like it is hot goes W, then S and turns back E-in a hurry. I hear a splash in the pond and run down there to see the coon with the dog right behind him. Jet catches the coon and I'm laughing at this point. Coon gets away thru high grass and Jet is swimming looking for it. I watch the coon go along the bank all the way around the pond. Jet has lost ground but is giving it everything he has in and out of the water. The coon is close to where he jumped in the first time and Jet caught him, brings him out on the bank and I think the coon committed suicide-cause Jet knows it is not coon season. Good Morning. Jamie-box is cleaned out.

Hope all of you had a great Father's Day. I got up early, put 2 fishin poles in the truck, loaded up Jet II and set out to enjoy myself. My oldest son called and while we were talking I hooked a fish and off in the distance Jet located-this was well after daylight. Multi tasking, at it's best. Congrats to Brad Henson and Keith Tate on Delta's 2nd place Friday night. Their goal is to make her a Nt Ch before her and Rejet's pups get here. I have been pleased with the number of pups raised in the last couple of years. So far this year has not been good-some real bad luck with litters I had high hopes for. Anyone else had problems raising pups this year? I hope not. Quality over quantity! Got to make some travel plans pretty soon. The Son I mentioned earlier is getting married. She is a Georgia girl living in Nashville. For those of you who enjoy Country music her name is Joanna Smith-look her up and give a listen. Blue Books come in handy when traveling-chances are you're close to another Bluetick man.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA

Hope all of you are enjoying this 4th of July. How many of you realize that it took several more years of war and hardship combined with determination to make this "declaration" become a reality. Many of our patriotic principles are mocked and criticized today. Liberty, individualism and religion are but a few. With the help of UKC, our state and breed associations and our local Coon Clubs we are able to free cast our hounds in a similar manner to what our forefathers did all those years ago. While I was in the woods this morning I gave thanks. The very best to you and yours on our special day!

Took advantage of the lower humidity and cooler temperatures to tree a coon without sweating for the first time since Spring. Medical decisions are being made concerning Ed and should be worked out in a matter of days. I understand he has some visitors from the great state of North Carolina. Between the hunt last night and an early morning trip back to the same woods this morning I saw three deer, one of which was a spotted fawn, a turkey, rabbit, one coon (out of two trees we made) and ten possums. I will leave things to your imagination to figure out how I knew for sure there were ten possums. Bobby Carter is helping to keep these young dogs rotated. We are going to try and get in a few corn field races with them soon. While crossing a log over the creek the limb I reached for broke and I tumbled off onto the log below. Since this took place near where the gator hangs out, I got back up ASAP. Cracked a rib and got bruised up a little but good to go now. Falling in really cools you off-heck I used to just swim across and didn't even look for a log. Best day of my life so far!

Dale Parker had called me with the news about C R Moss. C R was part of this Georgia Bluetick bunch that traveled to so many Bluetick hunts for years. Dave Bialik, Larry Taylor and Robbie Dobbs-there were others but these were the ones who kept that group together. Robbie is still around-just not as active. On a lighter note, got a call from Henry Miller of Quail Creek Jimmy fame. Henry's female, Quail Creek Bell won a 1st place in UKC to ad to the Best of Show she already had. Bell is out of Rejet and Hope. If you look far enough back in these dogs pedigrees you will find Quail Creek Jet, the sire of Warrior Creek CW. I was glad to hear from Henry, it had been a few years since we had last talked. If I am correct there are at least 3 dogs from the Rejet and Hope cross in Missouri, Double Shot of 6 is one. Brad Henson's Delta female, a littermate to Hope is bred to Rejet and definetly pregnant. Ed and I did not breed anything to Rejet until relatively late-oldest pups are these two year olds. Dave Gardin called on his way back from Ed's saying he likes the pups from Scott Phillip's Hooker and Rejet.

Pretty nice to see ....

Good to see Henry get a 1st on his female. I hunted quite a bit with Quail Creek Jet. A true coon dog. Henry was also a first class guy to shoot the breeze with.

Ed

Just got a call, Ed came through his surgery and is doing good. They replaced a valve and did a by pass. He is in pain but breathing on his own. Everything is functioning correctly and the readings are good as well. Ed did tell his Doctors a week or so ago that he needed to get this done cause Autumn Oaks was just around the corner and he needed to get back in the woods. Please keep Ed in your prayers there have been some changes in his condition since I posted this.

Posted by cwbluebio on 08-25-2014 07:03 PM:

Got a call earlier today from Janette Mead on the way to the hospital to pick Ed up and bring him home. Know that he will get his spirits up and mend quicker now that he will be at home. Please continue to pray for Ed and Janette because she is going to need it trying to keep him under control once he starts to feel better. Terry, Scott and Brett-I know you three will be checking in on him. Sure he would love to hear from people while he is recuperating!
