Accidental Matings
It is no different than any other mating as it all depends on the quality of the individuals involved.
One of the absolute best dogs that ever beat my dog like a drum and I liked it was Roy Jacksons Gr. Nt Ch Josie and her and her brother Jane were from Sally Rand who was suppose to be infertile and an untrained related young male. It was like hunting against a MACHINE! Strike track tree all night long. I couldn't believe it as Josie and Jane made my mouthy track dog run silent. I hunted the second night and it was a repeat performance. My thanks to the late Mr. Roy Jackson and David Hathaway of Ft. Scott, Kansas for showing me what was possible!
Grntch.Hardwood Maniac bred his half sister Grntch Hardwood Tiny to produce Medlys Hardwood Swamp, who became a well known reproducer.
If coon hunters were only smart enough to look at history, House bred, ( closely family bred) Finley River (family bred)
Sailor dogs, Yadkin River dogs on and on we go.....
It is about one thing traits! If you breed a father to daughter and they are not alike it is useless!
Traits, Traits, traits!!!!!!!! When you can breed family's with the same traits you are doing something
Outcrossing continually has got us were we are at today!

My next cross is going to be to a dog I haven’t even seen his pedigree don’t have a clue what he is out of I just like the way he trees coons.

Dog Breeding
No forget about the trait of INTELLIGENCE! Low IQ produces low IQ it doesn't matter whether you are outcrossing or inbreeding.
Insanity produces extremely independent dogs. Beware, insanity will cause more than independent loner dogs.
Intelligence is my most sought after trait, I absolutely hate a stupid dog and don’t care how many coons they can tree, it will come back on you in breeding. Everything is way easier with an intelligent hound.

A good dog dont always throw the traits it carries obviously. But when you find dog that consistantly throws the traits you want then it's time try line breed and lock them in.
Here is related question I know of a GRNT dog that's short eared, chop mouth both ways and will cover another dog regularly. BUT he has 4 litters by 4 different females. And I have personally hunted with pups from each littler. And all have good houndy head, big bawl on track some on tree and independent as can be. Now if guy line breed his pups (I prefer aunt to nephew or niece to uncle) will the traits of pups be locked in or will short eared, chop mouth just skip generation and show back up?

My experience is this, by taking dogs Of the same family and with like traits and breeding them you will have To cull or chose the right ones, and it will take a couple of generations to get to where you are getting consistent pups. Some will show traits others won’t. Only breed the ones that do.
Now most will not do this and will say hey the whole litter trees? yea but they are not what I’m breeding for, I breed for specific traits and if a pup don’t have it he’s gone.
So I guess the answer to the question is it is hard to lock in your specific traits in a breeding or 2, you have to be in for the long haul.

Selecting the right dog for inbreeding
The only thing harder to find than the PERFECT dog to breed to is an individual who analyzes and selects dogs like you do.
I agree with Ken that is the next hard thing to find.
Anybody can reproduce Treeing Walkers 😊
But to keep a line of Treeing Walkers going takes allot of dedication.
I been on the outside so long I like there 😁 but the ole saying breed winners to winners will get you nowhere.
Know the dogs your breeding inside and out, don’t drive 2 hrs and breed to a stud just because he won something.
Look for true reproducers of the traits you want.
If you don’t like the female or several things about the female don’t breed her! Because you are going to get at least half if not more of her.
I had a guy checking with me on breeding one of our studs not long ago, he said he had a top notch female , she had done some winning, I said tell me about her and he said she was real nice, only problem is she is 50 to 60 % accurate. That’s not real nice to me .... lol
