-- cast win towards gr nt ch (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928501641)

I voted no on the poll because it didn’t say you had to have more than 5 cast wins to make Gr Nt. Make it ten casts win and I would have voted yes. Back when the local hunts were a lot bigger I had 320 points on a dog before I got a first place win. Breezes thru to make Grand night after that. Being a consistent cast winner no matter who you draw or where you hunt should be what it is all about.

I actually liked AKC’s draw them all together, win 5 casts to be Nt Ch, 5 more to be Grand Night, and 5 more to be Supreme Grand format the best. Just don’t see how the performance program could be revamped in payout if that format was used.

I guess I'm different than most on here. I could care less about the PP. And the same for everyone I hunt with.

I could care less about it too. Just figure since it’s here now it’s going to be hard to take it away.

They could still place them for performance points according to score. It just wouldn't matter toward championship points.

They could do placement for performance points regardless of category hunted in and based on total amount of dogs entered in the hunt. Say 1-10 dogs entered gets 1 point, 11-20 dogs entered gets .75, etc. Then they could also pay out at big hunts or RQE's if UKC decided to. I haven't tried to figure all of that out, I just know that it could be done.

I wouldn't be against all dogs drawing out together regardless of category. That alone would make it harder for a dog to achieve their Nt Champion degree because they would have to beat better dogs overall in order to get their Nt Ch degree. 5 cast wins against tougher competition should be enough to make a Nt Ch. Then either add a third degree like Supreme Grand Night or make it 10 cast wins to make Grand Night Champion. If someone is entering their Nt Ch at really small hunts now where there is only one cast of Nt Ch's they only have to win 5 casts the way things are now in some cases so this would make it harder to achieve Gr Nt for some dogs. In areas with more participation a dog is probably going to have to win at least 10 casts to make Gr Nt Ch going by high score gets the win toward Gr Nt Ch.

Adding another degree and requiring 10 more cast wins to make Supreme Grand Night Champion would keep some of the die hard UKC hunters coming back to enter their dogs and would make the competition harder for other dogs to earn their degrees.

A State Race with some good money value at the end would also bring some hunters in to compete who might not have the time during the week to chase the other kennel clubs State Races. That could put some money into their pocket as well if their dog was performance paid and might keep them coming back to the UKC hunts after their dog had all of their degrees earned.
