Back to the original post, yes, I believe having the finals in Georgia is affecting #'s at RQE's. Actually I believe it's having the finals in Georgia at that particular time of year that's the problem. I don't have first hand knowledge of that area, that time of year, but I have talked to multiple people that have said no one hunts much in that area at that time of year because it's miserably hot, bug infested and it is the most active time of year for poisonous snakes and gators, thus placing hunter and hound in more danger than most places. So some of you guys in that area please post is this true or not? Do you actively hunt down there that time of year? What kind of turn out do you get when a club in that area holds a hunt that time of year? Most importantly, how many of the top 100 dogs in the USA do you think will be killed by snakes or gators while hunting that area in September?

In southern Oklahoma we have always had to drive long distances to the major hunts. So we don't know any better we don't have the best hunting conditions but there are plenty of coons just takes a tuff dog to tree them consistantly I guided a cast for the zones last year they scored on 5 coons difference in me and others I raised probly the best dog I ever owned he is gone now but if I ever went to a major hunt I never refused to cut him in anything they put me in but he was used to being in crappy woods he always got it done somehow.
Yep its going to be warm yep there's going to be snakes gators and bugs and the leaves will still be on the tree's. We hunted all summer last year and had one dog bit in the face by a snake after a couple days on meds she was ready to roll again. I live a couple hours south of where the hunt will be, I have hunted up there 1 time and we treed 4 or 5 coons I think. Everyone thinks that there is a snake or gator waiting around every corner down here but I maybe saw 3 or 4 snakes total last summer and haven't seen but 1 this summer. Guys from the north need to quit worrying about snakes and gators and start worrying about all the dillars we got down here.
So the dillers are bad? I seen to many times taking a northern dog and it can be straight as an arrow, put it in diller country and it goes crazy on em lol

Aint nothing but a yard dog.
The dillars might not be as bad in the Northern part of Ga as they are down here but I think they have migrated north. If a cast comes down around me then yes there's a bunch down here.
The whole snake and gator thing is blowed way out of portion. They don't have anymore snakes than we do, maybe not as many. You see a poison one now and again but I haven't had a dog bit in over 15 years. Like I said they will either come or not. There will be 100 dogs there either way.

Lots of good reasons it down
First location. Is as some said not located in center of "coon hunters"
Most live in midwest.
Second terrain. It's just better hunting up north. Period.
Third. You know all of us boys from up north are afraid of snakes gators etc.
Forth. Why drive 16hrs when plenty of other hunts closer.
Same old story what's best WC. One that beats the cast on several coons. Or beats cast on one coon. Which shows best dog work??? Plus who wants to drive that far and tree 2 coons. Lol.
But in all fairness it is only fair to southern boys to move it around.
ukc just have to live with facts. More turn out in Ohio Ind ill,mo.
just fact.

First thing we don't have Gators here they are south of here few Rattlesnakes. How do you figure you have the most coonhunters in Midwest?Have you thought that maybe that's why you don't have that many southern hunters come up there because of distance? It can't be but 100 period dogs north south east or west.

I hunted with Catch several times. Seen her look good, and seen her struggle a lot. Not sure what she has to do with you thinking northern dogs are all culls though. If they are such junk when you were in the north you should have had a really easy time beating up on them

I got lucky at the super slam. The luft memorial in 16 Jake Bingham won my cast and got in. Last year's luft memorial was a week long event and Finley got Duds in a couple of times but I wasn't able to go. It's one of my favorites hunts of the year.
As far as bad weather. People ask me all the time what my dogs would do with 6 inches of snow on the ground, and freezing temps, my answer is come down and hunt em in it, I've always wondered that myself. You can let me know when you bring em back

We have ZERO alligators in north Ga ..... I repeat, we have ZERO alligators in north Ga. as for poisonous snakes, I can garuntee you you have a better chance of getting in an auto accident heading to the woods than you do running into a poisonous snake. Stop making excuses and drive 6-8 hours south like us southerners do every big hunt we go to. Do we have as many coons as the north ... no. But generally you will score on 2-3 a cast in that area where the world is being held.

Have no time to get one there with my kids in everything! But most of you have forgot you might not have gators were its held but what about were you get sent to? A few years ago I went to the Grand American and hunted by Savana Ga. After seeing 100 wild pigs cured me of wanting to hunt down there! As far as dilliers my dog never seen one before they scared the crap out of her she ran a mile the other direction.

Might be a good thing more of you northern boys stay home the more chances a southern dog will win it then y'all will maybe have to drive to Florida or Texas to breed to him lol.
Don't think it's snakes, gators or pigs. We have tough hills in Indiana and thin coon in areas to. It's the drive we are spoiled the month of sept. Oct there is so many big hunts around here we just don't have to or willing to drive that far. That being said there will be northern dogs there and they have as good of a chance as any others. You guys can laugh at us all you want but at AO I get a kick outa those tough southern boys withdrawing over stinging needles and there dogs tree in fences. Oh yeah crying over roads.
Just curious I can't remember how many northern dogs finished in top 20 a world when it was in La. a few years ago

Y'all don't mind if we drive all night taking our entry fees buuuut it's a long drive from southern Oklahoma to Georgia too lol. But if I had one good enough and qualified I would be there it can't be no rougher than where I am at. We got chupracombras tho they eat alligators and snakes.
If it's fair that it moves around when is it going to be in the north east? We don't have diller's or gators or swamps. We have a good coon population and about every kind of terrain you could ask for. And the current world champ is from this area.
