They have puppy diets that would be in the 375 kcal/cup area for energy. These are close to some performance diet numbers such as Eukanuba Performance.

As disgusting as it may sounds, Hills Science Diet quality control is far above most of these fast food restaurants. You are lucky to even get beef in your burgers today in most of these restaurants. I had a classmate in college who's father was a big buyer for Burger King America. They were importing Kangaroo from Australia for years before the public was notified.

Now that info is eye opening. I am not going to switch my diet to Science Diet BUT I may not be eating much from those other F/F places either. Got any insight on WENDY'S.

The only fast food places I trust anymore are In and Out Burger and Culvers. That is real beef foiks!

Just to bring this back to the top because of a dog food test I have been doing since Jan. My female who was fed Victor up until Jan has been fed Science Diet since Jan 3. I took her in to have blood work done yesterday. In Jan when I had her tested I believe her t4 level was a 1.5 so I switched to Science Diet just to see if it would make any diff in her t4 level naturally. It has dropped from a 1.5 to a 1.2 since Jan. So in my case(and not saying it hasn't helped other dogs) switching from Victor to Science diet hasn't helped her t4 levels at all. I'm not posting this to bash or tell anyone they are wrong, I'm just stating it didn't help my female.

lol As a teenager I worked in the butcher shop of a large grocery chain , we ground kangaroo meat in with hamburger ,I had watched so many cows butchered that this red color of meat was something I had never seen so I asked the butcher and he said its kangaroo we use it to bring leanness to meat to where we want it also if hamburger is turning brown from age we just drop a strip of it in there and the color comes right back.

My vet suggested 6 months, due to if the thyroid 'goes to sleep' it could take a long time to come back. I will say, my 1 female was going through a false pregnancy, complete with milk. Never was around a male. She has shrunk up great. The 42lb female that started to drop weight to 36.8 lbs even though I had increased food to 8 cups... Gained her weight back nicely. Dogs once again have energy to hunt all-night. They are due in heat May-July. Really glad, if this is the cause, gives more time to heal.
I also found a USDA certified lab that will test dog food for iodine, 300 pesticides and Vitamin B 12... But at a cost of almost $700. After the heat cycles, I intend to have it tested.

As per the docs advise my min pin was fat and not loosing weight and he said put her on Hills Science Diet Metabolic and if she don't loose weight have her thyroid checked. I did after about 3 months and it was less than a .5...she's on thyroid meds now for prolly the rest of her life...Oh and bonus...my English female has lymes again...good times

I have an older redbone, 11, that has been going bald along his spine for the last couple of years. Otherwise he's healthy, except that he's a little stiff in his joints like most older dogs.
His mother definitely had thyroid issues and froze to death in an unexpected storm when her owner was away from home. My guy was hyperactive when he was young and I never worried about low thyroid issues in him.
My vet offered to test him for thyroid issues, but he's largely retired from hunting and the baldness doesn't seem to bother him, except that he gets cysts in the empty hair follicles sometimes. He lives indoors and gets wrapped in a blanket if he seems cold--he's a spoiled old and faithful thing.
Do you think there's any reason to test him and put him on thyroid meds if it's low? Would it help him in any way? Anything dietary I should deny him?

Out of curiosity what are some of the bloodlines of dogs you guys hunt that have had problems with thyroid. I have had three different wipeout dogs and all had thyroid issues. I know a lot here feel it is a dog food issue I am just curious if it could be genetic also or maybe some bloodlines more succeptible than others.

See what they recalled it for? Naturally occurring Thyroid hormone. They monitor it. A huge shout out for constantly checking to make sure they are making healthy snacks and dog food! And the guts to recall it!

Try SPORTMIX WHOLESOMES. I feed the Chicken Meal and Rice and dogs love it. I have two Thyroid dogs and they do great on this feed. It is a 26/16 with Calcium Iodate & Salt included in the ingredients. Scores higher than Purina in the Advisor. $29 per 40 lbs.
