Prime/ AKA Swimmer!

Well, let's just say last night was not his night. Prime he dang sure wasn't!! I hunted with a friend of mine,we did tree 2 coon and Prime manage to get a couple slicks along the way. What agrivated me the most was him going back the the tree that was slick 2 times after we got them off of it. That pup for some god unkown reason felt he had a coon up that tree,if it was there.2 boss hotspot 3'D lights couldn't find'em. It was one of those crazy nites. Last drop we made,Bill's Hank dog got treed and we heard the pup locate in there, not sure if he was on the same tree,we were several hundred yards away. Get in there,Hank has a coon, pup is split 40 yards away but we didn't find his coon, just a big corn pile by the tree he was on. Oh,well! Pups do try ones patience so I leashed Prime up and went back to the truck and left Bill to shoot out Hanks coon. After that, the night was over for Prime!! Later,Danny G.

Panic's night out!

Well, the other nite I hunted Panic and he just didn't want to get in the dark and go hunting like he has in the past. I gave him a chance twice and he kinda pulled my chain in the wrong way and I leashed him back up and took him back to the kennel. I know these pups are just 6 months old but when I turn'em loose in the timber, they best be lookin to find a coon and not piss fart around. Well, that's what he did the other night. He didn't like the fact that I put him up and took out another pup and went back out hunting. Long story made short, last night he done a whole lot better. I cut him in,he went huntin pretty good,120 yards or so and gave 1 track bark and continued to work an older track for several hundred yards.I was sitting on a log relaxing, waitng for him to open again but instead he gave out those true locates and started treeing up solid so I headed into him. Treed up a big oak and he had the coon. I praised him up a bit, stepped back and rolled the coon out to him and called it a night. It was good to see him get back to doing better. The thing I'm noticing about Panic is he hasn't opened up on track alot. Hopefully that changes as he gets older. I'll post some pics and vid of him after there done downloading! Later,Danny G.

Blue Creek Hook

This is another pup from this litter. He is really showing alot of promise. He has been in the woods a total of 6 nights and treed a coon on 5 of those nights the first night of our season he showed me he could run deer pretty good also.:=)

Ron

Thanks for sharing the vid and pic of Hook. Bill told me last night I need to chill a bit. Says I'm too demanding for pups that are still only 6 months old. He's more than likely right but it has to be special for me to put the time in one. I'm hoping Panic starts to get a bit more vocal on the ground!! You know me,I like that first or second strike and first tree!! Happy Thanksgiving,Danny G.

GAUGE X ALICE PUPS

Danny and Ron, yaws pups are looking and sounding Great! I haven't carried Rain anymore as I have been hunting BO a lot but I cut her loose for a while each day and she is leading real good and rides on 4-wheeler good. Letting her age a little more before I start putting her in the woods. Take Care and Good Hunting!

Good talkin with ya Terry

Well,I've been mostly hunting Panic and I myself am panicing a bit with him being so tight on track. I sure wish he would start to open more. He has everything going for him other than that. Go figure!! Seem's like there's always something you wish you could change on a pup of his age. Hopefully he will start to open more soon. Started hunting Troop some. He treed up real solid with Alice II the other night. Shot the coon out then he decided he was going to stretch his legs a bit and ran some speed beef for a mile or so before he quit and came back. He did a nice job moving it out!! I don't mind it when thier young, shows drive and how gamey they are. Alice II ended up oppisite direction in a beaver swamp so I did alot of walkin that night!! I'll post a couple vids of Panic when I get the chance! Later,Danny G.

Thanks Steve

Been hunting him enough to keep'em moving foward as he gets older. He's not saying much on track right now so I'm hoping that changes some. Things I really like about him is he has only missed on 1 tree to date, has a huge hound mouth, geat locate, real nice tree dog and best of all, bred right and he'll win on the bench at the national level in the future. He's built ausome all the way thru!! Just needing someone to start benching him for me when the weather gets to cold and snowed up to hunt him. Last few times out he has hunted out well for his age. Furthest being 585 yards. Seems to handle tracks ok for his age. I have a plan for him tommorow nite to see if I can get him starting to open more on track. Was going to try cutting him in on some deer to see if he would open on them but he had his chance the other nite, Saw a deer, stood right there staring at me so I cut him loose right beside a forked horn small buck,he came within 8 yards or so and watched it go over the ridge and went right on hunting. So that plans not going to work!! Time well tell soon wether my new plan works or not. I've always liked a hound to open quick and open on a track according to how old or hot one is. Right now, don't have much for my likings. I have a buyer for him,I'm just not ready to part with him at this time. Still very young so things could change for the better as he gets older!! Let me know when you turn Rain back loose for a hunt! Later,Danny G.

Panic

Well, things went ok tonite with my plan but I'm going to do something most wouldn't think of to get him to open more on track! I'm going to turn him into a babbler and then take it away as he gets older. I'm going to make him open to beyond my likings and then set him back a bit in time! It has worked for me in the past but has also have had some setbacks. If this pup will get his mouth open,Bingo!! Got a winner in the future! Sometimes one has to go to extremes to get what he's lookin for! Some might think I'm crazy, which I am but I have made this work more times than not over the years of starting pups! We'll just have to wait and see the outcome as time goes on and he gets older. I hunted Troop tonite without a good outcome. He decided that he wanted to run another flagtail but he did do it in style and to my likings. Shows lots of drive and desire which is a good thing. I'll get him right soon. Troop has a mouth like no other pup I have ever hunted or hunted with. You can hear him till hell freezes over and then some. Soon,I'll get him on the path to glory without taking away that desire to run and be gamey! One just has to love hunting pups or don't train one!! Later,Danny G.

Well things are changing quick!

Panic is starting to get his mouth open and I mean wide open. Just not on the right kinda of track. I seen him turn down deer twice by hisself but yet last night while hunting with a buddy of mine,he and the other young hound blistered and I really mean blisted two deer tracks. Panic was wide open on both of them and man can he move one thru the country. As much as a hated to I had to try and stop him on the second one for he was on a main blacktop road. The first one we managed to cut them off but I tried slowing him down on that one with no luck at all. I did turn a coon loose for him the other night and give the coon a chance to lay a good track which it did and Panic ran the track fast and hard, located up and had the coon. Bad thing was he only opened up 4 times on track which just isn't exceptable to me for a young pup for as far as he had to run it to get it treed. I plan on hunting Troop tonite and give Panic a break. Troop will drive a deer with the best of them also. I like the fact that these two pups can flat out drive a deer track. Shows me they have some drive and are gamey. The best hounds I have owned had to be broke at one time or another, soon I'll get these 2 under control without getting on them to hard and taking thier spirit from them! Later and Merry Christmas to all from Danny G.

Panic and Troop progress report!

For now I'll start with Troop. I hunted him last nite and well,I was disappointed with him continuing to insist that deer running is a good thing so I decided it was time to change his thoughts and get things under control. Last nite 2 deer chase, correction and coon treed at the end! Troop will be fine and the best deer runner I have had here at the kennel. He will get broke soon without hurting his pride!! Panic,Panic!! What I wouldn't give to get this young hound to start getting his mouth open on a coon track!! A deer track that he has run he's wide open and drives it hard with no quit in him till I started to correct him for doing wrong. On a coon track he says not a word but goes straight to his work and trees a coon. Big mouth, looks to spare and then some, ausome treedog when hooked, smarter than most teenage kids and then some!! One problem,to tight on track for me and my likings. Could have sold him a number of times but he's still here until he gets a year old and if things don't change by then, someone else will own him but not until then. Here's avideo of him from last nite doing his thing after he ran this coon and treed it. When he struck it I have no clue but when it comes to treeing and his style at 7 months old, very impressive to say the least! Who thinks this pup will open more as he gets older. My thought is,once tight as a pup, always tight mouthed! Opinions please on what you think!! NOT FRO SALE!! Enjoy the vid,Danny G.

Panic with the coon hangin!!

Panics reward !!

Blue Creek Captain Hook

Here you go Danny I am no videographer that is for sure! But here is Hook last night the 28th on his first tree of the night, he made 3 trees and the last one was a double that he slammed with no track! I like these pups I hope they hunt the way I like when they get older.

I didnt know I was breathing so hard from that climb up the hill out of the hollow till I listened to this!

Posted by Danny Glista on 12-30-2014 11:27 AM:

Lookin good Ron.

One thing about them hollows, they can get ya huffin a bit as we get older. That's why I like the flat country up my way!!Easier on an ole man to walk into them when treed!! LOL!!

Danny

I enjoy reading your post on puppy training, good or bad, keep it up....

Posted by Fisher13 on 01-26-2015 07:22 PM:

Danny your training program is very unique, but in principals makes a lot of sense.
Thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to implementing some of your concepts.

As far as getting a dog opening up more I have had some luck walking a dog in on a lead, and then petting him up when I know he smells the coon typically they start barking and carrying on. Might be worth a shot.

Best of luck!

If some of this nasty white stuff ever melts off & the temperature isn't in the Arctic Frig. mode, you can get her out after some of those ole woodlot coons up that way

Good luck with her!

I've been talking to Harry about hooking up & hunting with you one of these nights. I told him to put his mountain goat boots on & I'll man the truck!

Take care,
Vic
