Sterling Run Kennels

Well had to put the brakes on our Hossx Demo pup for a lil while she came in heat last week. Still working her on the bench though.

Just keep running Rosco and wrangling all the slammer and demo pups lol. They are getting to be a handful my wife calls them the 101 dalmations...

We separated the pups and Demo and started her on the drying up process so she will be back in the woods before to long she sure is a great mother and a dandy coon hound to boot.

I listed some of the pups available for partial delivery on the english dogs and puppies for sale. Ill be heading to pigeon forge tenn on the 19th so i can get them closer to someone down that way if they are interested.

And as always if anyone wants to see Rosco in action just let me know im always looking to mix him with strange dogs i hunt him 90 percent solo. So any chance i get ill mix him in. Thanks for reading.

UPDATES

Been awhile but heres whats going on at Sterling Run Kennel

We still have Mawley she gets out once a month or so shes 12 and when you cut the old girl she can still sink in there pretty deep and have the coon!

Rosco as far as im concerned is hunt ready and will be putting him in real soon. He is one of the funnest hounds ive ever trained he still amazes me at how smart he is.

We bred Sassy to Ed Osmans Red Rock dog and she had 7 pups raised 6 it was her first litter and they are some real lookers and have great breeding as well we sold them all but 2, a male and female is what we kept but the male can still be bought hes a sharp pretty dark red tick, but if he dont go i will raise and start him as well.

My son kept a male and female out of Slammer and Demo and we are getting some really good reports on these pups from the guys who bought the others one is running and treeing squirrels with other dogs and alone another one has barked at the 1st cage coon it seen and is starting to go out with the other dogs and they are only 4 months old. My son will be starting to get after his real soon he was handling a walker dog for a local guy and finished him to grand and made it to the final 100 of the world hunt this year he did a great job with him but its time to get back to our English dogs now..

I also have a black and white ticked up wired 440 Dino and Ugg male that will be getting some woods time real soon. His name is Slugger.

I had sold Speck hes out of Le x Mawley but he had some hard ship so i got him back and the hard ship and work left Speck sitting for the summer and we started taking him along a few times but then backed up and started him like a new pup again and we are getting some progress out of him now we had him posted for sale or partnership and had some interest but nothing ever came thru yet. He has a real loud mouth on him and is starting to use it well he don't run a track wide open comes treed with a nice long bawl locate and chop on tree. Hes a work in progress so we will see what happens with him.

Slammer pups

Hello again doin,our coon season starts nov.10th here in illinois. I can't wait to put sandy back in the woods. We seem to have a lot of coon around my house this year. I guess that's what you call it when the dogs split tree. Lol. Sandy!s been looking good this fall so I know it's going to be fun. Be carefull and have fun with those slammer pups in the woods.

Hows it going been a while, yeah our season came in on the 10th as well, and my main hound is Rosco he is flat out tearing it up he looks better and better each night out went in the rain last night the weather sucked but he didnt manage to slam a nice sized one and i called it quits lol didnt wanna get any wetter than i had to but hes turning out to be the funnest hound ive ever cut loose, super smart loves to have them coon when he parks at the tree.

My son has a couple pups out of slammer and demo he has been taking them along as well and they are starting to show some interest and not quite 6 months old yet. Good luck this season and be safe.

Kennel update

I was trying to get all the nice pups i could so i could build my kennel strong in a hurry but i realized i had way to much young stuff and not enough time or money to work them all, i didnt wanna pay someone to hunt my hounds i like training them the way i like so i cut back well pretty deep really.

All i have left is Mawley which is semi retired she still has the heart to go but she will be 13 soon. I also have Sassy which is out of Slammer and Mawley. I have been pounding her some she is acting real good and I have my main hound Rosco Slammer and Suzie this lil guy has flipped the switch and is rapidly becoming a power house he is the smartest hound i have ever cut loose i was having problems when i put him in a hunt or with company and they treed and didnt have a coon he would mill around i figured he was telling on them but i have since worked on him for that and have been pounding him solo as hard as i can stand it and hes on his way to being the real deal now. I have a female pup out of Grntch Osmans Red Rock X Sassy and she is still young so no need to worry about her till spring then I also have a 6 month old out of Dino and Ugg he is wired 440 and seems pretty smart as well just a lil more bullheaded than most ive seen but that just means once he figures it out he wont forget. I have a male out of Rock and Sassy that is being picked up this weekend. So for now i have 2 that is getting out just about every night and no less than 6 nights a week which is pretty hard considering i get up at 4 am for work but they wont make coondogs with me on the couch. So i finally feel like im on the right track to having some real nice hounds for this season and the hunts when they get cranked back up. I still plan to hit a few some local and some semi local. With all this info i think its safe to say i am a huge fan of ChGrntch Rhoads Tri-County Slammer hes throwing some real nice pups at least ive been real happy with the ones ive been fooling with. Slammer pup

Hey doin just wanted to give you an update on sandy. I hunted sandy mostly alone during our hunting season here in illinois. We seemed to have a real good coon population and she had no trouble finding a coon to run. Many a night with frozen ground and frost,she managed to openly track and tree a couple of coons. I kept her to myself until late in January,then I took a hunt with a coon hunter that I knew from years past. Sandy and his walker got treed,and after we walked into them we found them split treed about 15yards apart. They both had a coon in their trees,and we were both happy as can be. Last week Saturday night I took sandy to her first competition coon hunt. There was about 5 inches of hard frozen snow on the ground and the moon was full. Not the best conditions ,but sandy managed to win her cast. Sandy split treed 3 times that night,first with a den,then with a coon and last tree was slick. Sandy ended up with 100 plus points which was enough for 2nd place. I had a great time,and i am planning on going to another hunt next weekend. I hope things are looking up for you as well,and I would like to see an update on your hounds. Take care and happy hunting.

Hey thats great about sandy. keep working her Slammer sure throws some real nice pups. I have 2 here that i really like alot. Rosco (slammer and suzie) and sassy (slammer and mawley). I have been working them both real hard lately and they will be hitting all the hunts i can make and they should be able to make some noise and represent there daddy well. Feel free to post pics or videos of her on here Slammer is the main stud that represents my kennel anyway. Ill get some up of her siblings as soon as i can. Keep working her and take care maybe we can get together for a hunt this summer....

update

I think im situated now with what i have in my kennel. the main two to pushed is Rosco and Sassy. then i have a young male out of holmes and fly. He seems like a keeper i like him alot and time will tell. we also have a young female out of Rock and Sassy m y daughter has been working her on the bench and to lead and load and general stuff. I put Rosco in a hunt friday night he looked real good just couldnt get one on the outside so he did his job but we just needed a little luck. and same results when my son took sassy saturday night. We will try it again this weekend. Thanks for reading

Back at it!!

Not been able to hunt for about 3 weeks injured my knee and had surgery 2 weeks ago today and went to the timber with Rosco last night he done a good job for not being hunted for almost 3 weeks.Been getting more good results with my Holmes and Fly pup also. I think hes gonna be a dandy as well. Few more night out with Rosco then ill be working Sassy in the mix as well. Ill try to get some videos and pics when i have time

Here is a few videos of Zip hes right around 6 months old now and hes got a great start so far. Just kinda taking it slow with him because im trying to get Rosco tuned up. But he is an impressive lil dude!!!

Well took lil zip with Rosco for the first time the other night Rosco went one way he went the other lol hunted great and Rosco treed one and he followed me into hium and he got real excited on the tree whining and shaking as he stood on the tree but never did let out a bark and the coon was in a hole so id dint push the issue. Ill be taking him some more here real soon but i have been tuning Rosco up cant seem to have any luck in the hunts but im not gonna quit trying sunday night i planned on hitting it hard with him and first dump he slammed one real quick and had a tree branch pop my contact out of my eye so i was done for the night last nuight he was 3 for 3 and did an awesome job on all three coons. Hopefully he continues to advance and he can do some good at Edays! And as always hes here for anyones inspection, anytime his daddy is a coondog! so if you have a nice female give Tim a call and get her bred to Slammer.

Got to watch your eyes out there Dion. I have been poked a bunch the eye never no fun .man should wear safety glasses but I never think about it until I get poked.

yes sir thats for sure i may have to try that about the safety glasses. And as far as the timber i hit it most every night. getting up at 330 am sucks but cant make a coon dog sitting on the couch lol!

Tim yes he needs one mire win me and my daughter have worked with him alot on the bench and i pound him in the woods and hes getting better and becoming a real pleasure to hunt needs to figure a few more things before he will really do well in the hunts but hes getting there. sandy looked real good on the bench too i want to see her go i really love them Slammer hounds.

Doug yeah she was excited to get the win she really enjoys to show them and puts the time in at home too

Hello doin I was hoping to meet you at English days,but Tim said you were unable to make it. I brought sandy there to let Tim hunt her in some hunts and they seem to be doing really well. Congrats on your win with rosco he sounds like a nice one. Tim brought along a female for me to mess with out of slammer and demo. I do miss having sandy around but Tim keeps me posted on all the action. Good luck to you and in all you do. Linus

Thanks Buddy, hes doing what hes suppose to now ive put a lot of time in on him and its paying off now hes as natural as they come but he was lacking confidence and that dont seem to be an issue now. Hes prolly the funnest hound ive ever owned. He was feeling a lil rough that night but still came out on top got to himself with the coon right off the bat he will be doing some more winning soon. Thanks for all you do for the breed as well Slammer is 100 % coondog and if more gave him a chance they would see what i see and thats great results from a reproducing coondog!

update

I havent posted in a while but i have been hard at it trying to get my kennel in order . I made some purchases and moved some out. I made Rosco Nite Champ(3 first place wins) this past Friday night, that is the main thing that has stayed constant in my kennel since Mawley died last year was the determination to make him nite champ and we wont stop there I plan to grand him out and start running some PKC hunts as well. I also bought a nice young female from a great guy named Jeremy Cox shes out of Jack x Cindy she is coming along real nice i plan to get her in the hunts real soon. Also after 2 years of trying i finally bought Roscos momma this past week she is a real nice little hound and i plan to ntch her as well, and make a couple real nice crosses on her! I will post that info at a later date. Thanks for reading and stay tuned Slammer power is on the rise! Ive heard there will be some more real nice females crossed on Slammer in the future.
