Heather , I love that look in a hound ... that is what I pictured when reading about the Gosset hounds and stuff that made me want a B&T as a kid ... I know folks get hung up on that style not being the best , but these high powered dogs aint all that either ... if a dog runs and trees coon and you like him then that's pretty much the end of it ... if they much more , folks will just talk bad about him anyway , lol....

I know what ya mean about the badmouthing... reminds me so much of my horse carreer... lol...
That is Uma, the lil female we transported for rescue and ended up keeping when we found out she was terminally ill. She was older than dirt...blind as a bat and ALL nose. She was or IS what will make me very very fussy if we are ever able to get a real live coondawg of our own to hunt... I'll want the look of an older type and a GOOD dog to boot. I'm a fussy person.... It's what draws me to your dogs... the build, head, ear, ear set... wide body, good thick throat... and a bit of extra skin with age... in a dog who will look GOOD under it's prey... not just at a tree....
Someday.... a girl can dream.... and the nicest thing is that I think Bob would love it just as much!
HappyHunting!! Heather

Yeah , same pup just a week older now ... need to get one of her at night ... I seldom get excited about pups and wasn't interested in these at first but can't overlook em' just because their daddy is a knothead.

Posted by BIGCASTLEDAWGS on 03-03-2014 07:40 PM:

Nice Nice Nice!

What a CHUNK that pup is! I can't stress enough how much I LOVE the deep wide THROATLATCH on these dawgs... And the big floppy lips that help the mouth open WIDER and make more, deeper mouth! Big Deep Broad chest and sturdy bone...Of course desire is kinda good too

Hope this pup is Better than you think now!

HappyHunting etc, Heather and Bob

Jericho and his half sister ..... both out of my old Raider dog ... not worldbeaters but they do have some crazy , screaming mouths and can move a track better than any other line I've seen ...

thanks , that was Achilla ... first sure enough powerhouse treedog i owned since a Walker dog as a kid ... not because she barked alot but she owned the tree in her body language and presence .

Had my hands full with the baby , yardwork and some puppies lately so not much new ... except maybe this next year being able to put together a mating of half siblings out of Achilla together .... looking forward to that ....the Smithurst dogs have some traits still that come from years back and that have been lost in alot of dogs ... it'd be nice to see a little bit more of it spread around before it dies out.

Yeah she sure sounds great. When is the next time you're breeding her? Congrats on the daughter too, by the way. Cute kid, you're blessed.

Justin, Brother Ron said it best! Those hounds of yours have the look from years ago, what a B&T is supposed to be, ''A HOUND''
I really enjoyed your page. Beautiful Hounds!

Thanks, I think knowing what you need and like is a big step to keeping yourself in good hounds ... every style has it's good and bad points , I like a hound to look , sound and act like a real hound but sometimes you have to have alot of patience with them and put up with the stages where they have more nose than experience and the fact that an old time hound will have nights that a cur type gets the best of them ... and not go out and change your breeding every time you have a bad night or bad cross.
