Because the whole point of Coonhunting is to progress and breed dogs that are better than the last ones and that simply won't happen with a mentality like yours. Covering a dog after 4 minutes is not ok. Getting beat by a me 2 dog happens but if you got a dog that hustles and trees coons you shouldn't have to worry About it cause you will win more than lose but why would you Want a me 2 dog? Be a leader not a follower... Most people honestly don't know what a coon dog is maybe if they changed the rule it would help people to see... Maybe not but as a young kid I used to look at the pages of the Ukc bloodlines star eyed thinking Boy I wish I had one of those or a Pup off him he's in the Magazine... As i got older And hunted with some of those dogs and then got into pkc i was crushed those dreams i had been chasing was a joke... You know how many Grnites I've hunted with that wasn't worth a bullet to blow there brains out with? I can't count them all!!!!

If no dog ever treed with another dog, how many continuous acres of land would be required to guide a cast in an area that doesn't have a high coon population. How long before this sport is extinct due to not having enough land to guide a cast on due to tresspassing, getting shot at, etc....

When you send 4 dogs in one direction and they end up treed in 4 different directions you are asking for trouble. We may get away with alot of stuff because we hunt in the night, but with game cameras getting so cheap, I fear that one day soon that will no longer be the case. You see, there is more to consider than most will admit.

any change would have to get approval of the 7 breed associations, and that is not real likely. As for me, leave it alone. If i decide i want to count down this week, i have plenty of other KC hunts i can attend. Differences does spice it up.

now if ukc would start up Money hunts during the week, i might be in favor of the countdown being placed into those rules as a change of flavor so to speak. don't think i have to worry to much about a flavor change either.

Pkc dogs are split 4 ways ALOTand I'm willing to bet in the last year I've hunt on twice the cast you have and it's not been a problem

If you don't have enough land for dogs to split you have no business guiding that's why dogs end up killed

You guys really want to reward the fast efficient coon dog, let's have 1 set of tree points per drop. That way old run as fast as I can a mile away doesn't get rewarded a 1st tree for passing up coons.

Wouldnt matter the dog deep would leash lock the close dog and usually the dog that hustles and is deep by himself will have more coons than slicks and if He hustles He will Be treed before most of Junk today

the comical thing is you have to break yours from it.... i cant ever remember a dog i hunted doing any of the stuff yall keep giving for a reson for a count down.... i just think it will breed more tight mouth totaly independant dogs and i dont think thats the way too breed

thats right.... but if i treed her and a coon was there she would get plus points i dont think she deserved.... i have never had it happen and dont exspect it too....

go look at some of the other polls cj look how many people don't know the rules but yet they get to judge and I walk into a ukc hunt and the people get quite and you can here the mumbling (that's a pkc hunter oh what's he doing here) don't be scared or jealous just get you some. We can't help the junk they hunt with us but ukc could by changing some rules

Ok been reading these posts, and all the folks saying that rules need to be changed because of dogs coming into the tree late.... I dont understand are yall still getting beat by these dogs? If so thats pretty pathetic!!! And If not why would you change anything? It makes absolutly no since if you still end up with the cast win!!!!!

There are other registrys with a coundown, if it was the be-all-end-all some of you claim, you should be cleaning up at those hunts.

I could really care less, My dog will get its share of first trees.....And when it covers yours, I can lay back and only eat 25 on your slick.

I hunted the zones in 2010. We had a 4 dog cast. In 2 hours we scored 12 trees... Not one time was there more than 1 dog on a tree at 1 time.

It was some of the best and most fun hunting I've ever had in a UKC event.

In PKC, you see that kind of stuff all of the time. It's not a 1 time thing. Those hunts tend to be more fun for me.

My dog vs. yours. Whoever has the meat at the end the most times wins. Sounds pretty simple, stupid!

EVERY other registry has a count down. ACHA PKC AKC CHKC all have a countdown of some form. I am for it because i see more good things about it than bad. It will pass sooner or later we just might have to wait till some of the old timers die off who don't want any change to get it done.

Who are you calling stupid? You act as if you are the only one that has ever seen dogs split. Just so you know, I hunted every AKC World Hunt that was here in SC. Also, guided/judged one of the final 16 casts 2 years and was 1 of 3 judges in the finals the last year it was here. Several of those casts never had more than 1 dog on a tree. I also know that I sent 4 dogs down a creek that is 2 miles long and a 1/2 mile wide from one end to the other. I learned quick that you could not start on one end and hunt to the other because the dogs would not go where they were sent. Each time I tried at least one dog would cut out of the section they were sent in circle around and get behind us where there aren't much woods before you get to a black top. Am I the only one that thinks that's crazy. I don't mind one getting split, I actually prefer it, but I do mind one that doesn't go the way it is sent just for the sake of getting away from the other dogs.
