I remember when:
I left the house and hunted all day or night and nobody thought a thing about a 10yr old being out there alone and with a loaded rifle
the teacher would ask if anybody had a pocket knife and EVERY boy reached for there pocket and HAD one.
using metal shop to........um modify single shot shotguns into "snake charmers"
......and the shop teacher "testing" them out the backdoor of said shop before it was graded
a crossbow made in woodshop, and a new wallnut stock for an OLD single shot .22
gettin back home after a day or night out , and my mom knowing everything that happened before i hit the door :/
the country sheriff handing out beer from a horse tank filled with ice and beer to everybody at the street dance (from 5 to 105)
having only 3 coonhunting clubs within 100 miles of the house.
dating a girl ment you would prob have to fist fight one or more of her brothers to prove your salt BEFORE you ever went on a date........o and meeting her dad first wasnt an option.
phone calls had to be dialed, and phones werent carried in your pocket
getting a 1st place win was huge.....because there were 20 or 25 casts out there.....
no internet
coons sold by the inch......at $1.50 an inch
a deer sighting ment front page news
an armadillo being caught ACCUALY being on the front page of the news paper.
no CRP, and gettin into more than 1 or 2 ticks a year ment you had hunted south of joplin somewhere >
GOOD dogs could hunt all night and never get a bark.....strike a track, let alone accualy tree (see the $1.50 an inch coon above)
Hell, I'm not even that old, but I remember when:
You could knock the **** out of a mouthy kid, and the worst thing you got was a detention and something similar when you got home, from the PARENTS.
You could stand up and leave a bar if you didn't like the smell of cigarette smoke.
You had to have an assembly in school to tell you that you need to hide your guns in your vehicle because they shouldn't be in plain sight.
When nearly every kid in school went out for every sport even if they sucked because they didn't want to be associated with those "other kids".
When very few homes watched "big news" mostly because only a few kids' parents had satellite. "Big news" wasn't a marketable advertising plug and mostly funded by the gov't, not by big corporations.
And most importantly..............
No one was on TV bragging about their "Obama phone" because no one had a cell phone.

I remember gettin my a$$ busted for acting up at school and getting another one when dad got home.
I remember when there was no wild turkeys or deer around here and
I remember when you did not have locks on your doors at home, no body would steal from you if they had something you wanted just ask and they would give it to you gladly.

I remember when we didn't hardly have a deer around here. No leased land. I could do as I pleased. I could ride my horse up and down the rds without worrying about getting ran over. I could drive a tractor 20 miles and nobody blow the horn or shoot me birds. I could haul a dead buck proudly from middle ga to north ga with the tailgate down. I could fish any lakes I wanted to. I remember praying in school every morning and pledging allegiance to our flag. I also remember Id get my butt whooped at home if I stepped outta lineI remember the stuff yall talking about to.

What happen??????
I remember when I was a kid we rode in the back of the truck to town and pretty much everywhere down the interstate what have you. Now it's illegal just like almost everything else. I remember the neighboring farms loved us to coonhunt and kill them rascal coons. Then city folk started hunting and ruined all that by being disrespectful and not getting permission tearing up fields etc.
Re: I remember when......
quote:Good post. I was a Freshman in high school back in 1980. Our FFA class sold magazines for a fund raiser and the prizes for selling the most was guns and knives. Yep a friend of mine won 3 guns. 1 for selling the most and the other 2 for selling so many subscriptions. I sold enough to get a nice Browning knife . And I did have a gun on the rack in my truck in the parking lot and a dog box in the back. I wore a knife on my belt every day too. We has a smoking section designated out by the Agg shop, but I didn't smoke. We pitched quarters there after lunch, had to hit the wall and bounce back and no rolling. We dipped and chewed Tobacco during Agg class. Times sure have changed.PS ,We has some lesbians too.

2. I remember when I always carried my case pocket knife in school and sometimes whittled with it at recess.
3. I remember when you could smoke a ciggarette about anywhere around town and nobody said nothing about it.
4. I remember when Gays and Lesbians used to actually hide it.
5. I remember when nieghbors used to actually KNOW each other and actually BE neighborly.
6. I remember when little girls and boys could play in the streets without some Jerry Sandusky Type looking at them as SEX objects.
7. I remember when people used to have some fear and respect for the Lord our God.
Do you have any "remember whens" ?
