Dave, I've always been a kind of a guide service when it comes to hide season. I look at it as some good free excercise and like to help out some friends that need a little change of scenery and hunting spots. The dog is owned by a real good friend of mine that is working nights and would like for me to get his dog out when ever I can. He's no stemwinder 110+bpm dog but he's real accurate and handles great and I am starting to really like in what I see in him. He's only 2yrs too.

can't

I can't find a **** coon right now. 2 drops tonight, a 15 minute cold trail, and a whole bunch of notta...I think it's time for me to abandon the hardwoods and drop down to some low swamp.

dens are better then slick, my female has been a slick treeing fool lately, she just started this bs in the last 2-3 weeks. she is 2/16 right now, im putting her up for the season, i thought because she is coming into heat, but i just dont know!

stihl

Nick, you really need to carry the Stihl from truck to tree now! At least you're finding something to chase!

Back in August and September it seemed like I had coon coming out my ears, not so now.

i wouldn't lay her up, this is the perfect time of the yr to correct that problem.

We cut loose in three drops & harvested 6,one den & one confirmed slick. Dawgs droppin off & treein layups behind as well as gettin off alone.

Bad tracks but they don't take that long when they get up on the wheel & swing on'um.

Had a pile of outstanding hunts under the moon so bright ya don't need a lite even on the snow. Never feared by that moon.

Don't know what'ta tell ya bout ya'lls misfortune's? Better spots,earlier,later? He!! I don't know I guess

Nice pics of coon and dogs.

I am real impressed guys, wish I was up there. Still waiting in Illinois till Nov.15 to hunt dogs and knock some coon out. Sure like seeing young people out there learning.

Take care Jeff

Gonna be at my parent's the next few days where there are a few more trees between coon and the deer herd is a healthy one. Haven't been out since Saturday night so the dog oughta be rested up to give the deer a run for their money.

yes

I wouldn't rush it, that's for sure. I don't think Jeff's numbers are great either. He was at a dozen as of last Monday.

good new on my female!!! she treed 1 on the outside, 2 dens with both coon able to get out of the tree's. maybe she is coming back around?

When the leaves fall so do the excuses. When the leaves are on the coon always could be there. The moon never really effected my hunting much. Dog's may tend to be a little trashier on a bright moon.

Well everyone has got a chance to knock some coon out and run there dogs a bit, bring em on down to highland this weekend Friday and Saturday night and give it a go with thw competition! with the help of a coon squaller u should pretty much never walk to a tree in season or not and not see a coon. my female actually just stop trailing and would fall tree with no track, i dont fricking know what she was doing but last night it was different....

that was my guess 2!! she struck the first track, ran it for a while, located a few times, checked and moved on a couple of times, had a coon sitting in the tree sleeping when i got there. the other 2 were dens, coon seen in both dens. by the 3rd tree she was moving it faster and better then the first two, some how the licking from the night before must have worked?

Posted by Brandon Gudgeon on 11-02-2012 06:14 PM:

Took a walk down memory lane last night, as I went hunting by my parent's house where I used to spend a lot of my days growing up. I cut Bentley loose and he worked a track for a bit then he caught it on the ground, but couldn't keep it from climbing a small box elder. Once I shot it out, I can see why!! This is the largest coon I've ever gotten, I'm pretty sure? I laid it on the tailgate and it was 53" nose to tail. That was without any stretching of any kind as well.

I'm guessing somewhere in there. Was a very fat coon, didn't do much exercising. Never heard of a sow getting this big. Like to get the boar that satisfies her next!!!
