Jesse, you would be correct when it comes to most situations. However, there are three specific situations where the rules require a majority of the cast vote. They are:
1) Scoring trees plus or minus
2) Calling time out
3) Previously scored trees
Each of these items go directly to a cast vote and where the hunting judges vote carries no more weight than any other cast member.
I've found that when it comes to the scoring of trees two to two votes are quite commonly mis-scored. I see a lot of casts deleting the points in this case. No where in the deleted section will you find where poinst are deleted in two to two votes. Should they be? That's a matter of opinion only.
The same argument can be made in that it's not listed under circle points either. It probably should be to eliminate inconsistent scoring.
The correct way of scoring the situation is circle the points. For those of you who have competed for a good several years will remember when the rulebook had no section for deleting points. Therefore, back then it may have been easier understood that when you didn't have a majority to plus (or minus) then the only option left was to circle.
Nothing has changed. You still circle. Unfortunately, the fact that we now do have deleted points for certain things, as mentioned, likely plays a role in this matter.
I've not read many comments within this thread but I'm fairly certain, considering four pages of comments, that arguments have been made that it makes better sense to delete the points. I can agree in that it is a good argument. Regardless, until it changes those points are to be circled. However, it might be a good time to start thinking about the fact that next year the UKC Chartered Breed Associations will be considering new rule proposals. Might be a good one to turn in?
