Bluticker, I totally agree, Jim Merchant was known by name and sight for years by every walker man out there. Not only has he done a tremendous amount for the breed he has also done a tremendous amount of winning. Also, like I stated earlier, you are hard pressed to find a Walker dog today that don't go back to some of this mans hounds. I'm not trying to take anything away from Dave Dean, Timothy Ball or anyone, I beleive they have all done tremendous work for coonhunting in general. My pick would just have to be Merchant simply because, in addition, he won the world hunt so many times.

where's John Wick??? My vote would go to a Missouri Hunter. 25+ yrs ago Lonnie Mears and John Monroe were the names I remember from magazines and word of mouth, and people are still talking about their dogs today.

There have been alot of well known,

COONHUNTERS, throughout the years, & including the present. EACH BREED has it's well known BACKERS, but if I had to PICK one person out of all of these WELL KNOWN PEOPLE, it would have to be JAMES MERCHANT. I always liked pleasure hunting with him also.

I dont care either way who the most popular is and I doubt most of the guys metioned in the poll care either. I think I voted for Dave and not just cuzz I am a ticker. You could take the top five guys on the poll to ten differant gas stations in any 10 states you wish and the guy most reconized will prolly be Dave. I have seen people flock around him at the bigger hunts and even seen him sign autographs lol. These things are from folks of all breeds not just bluedog folk. There is even a little story about this happening out in Oklahoma in 98.

Dave and a couple other fellas were headed out to the world hunt and Dave needed to stop for some Goodys at an all night store in somewhere Oklahoma. Dave went in the store and the other fella got the dogs out to stretch. A couple good ole Okie boys pulled into the parking lot there and I guess it was obvious they had been taking a sip or two lol. One of the Okies asked Dave's travlin partner if those were Blueticks? Wich he replied with a blunt YEP. The other fella shouts out "ya they's prolly Hammer dogs too aint they?" Wich Daves partner says Yep, this one here is Gr Nt Hammer 18 and this one is Gr Nt Northern Blue Rebel. The ole boys both start laughing and ky-yaing. Just about then ole Dean strolls out of the store and just says "Whats up boys?" lol One Okies jaw drops and the other says "Holy crap thats Dave Dean". They loaded up the hounds had a few minutes of chat and on their way they went.

I was told this story on the tailgate of a pickup by the guy that was there, Dan Rons. We all had a good laugh and continued our hunt. Dave

bronc,

where is Carl living these days???? I used to hunt with him back in the 60's when he still lived at Poplar Bluff, Mo. I lost track of him when he moved back from South Carolina. Next time you talk to him, tell him that I said HELLO.

Of all the coonhunters I ever met, the one who conducted himself the best would have to be Elvis at the 2007 World Hunt.

Lots of people can win, even more can lose gracefully. Very few can win gracefully, and I found Marv to be that rare kind.

A coonhunters coonhunter by anyones difinition.

Thankyou Larry

Winning that hunt was a very humbling experience for me.

I am very blessed by haveing several friends that help me with getting one ready. They go out of their way to help, be it by leaving their dogs at home to help,or setting up a cast situation that needs worked on.
Then you have the walker breeders that have spent lifetimes in building a better dog for me to enjoy.

Standing up there in the spotlight, holding the world champion while everyone cheered and congratulated me, just didnt feel right. I did not win the world hunt alone,I had a lot of help and WE won it.

but to even mention my name on a thread such as this is just ridiculous,in no way shape or form am i worthy of cleaning the kennels of those in this poll, but thank you Larry for the kind words.

Marv,

Ive met about a third of the people on that poll.

Trust me on this one, your a better class than most.

Your last post proves that.
