Coon Dogs!

A good dog is a good dog, regardless of color or breed. I'd rather have a good pink polk-a-dotted coon dog than a bad one of any color or breed.

All of our six breeds are some color combination or shade variation of black, brown, and/or white.

Some breeds, whether standards imposed, or breeder imposed are more restrictive in color variations and markings than others.

From the most restrictive to least restrictive (color-wise), I'll list my opinions :

(1) Plott
(2) Redbone
(3) Black & Tan
(4) Bluetick
(5) English ***
(6) Walker

Notice any correlation to their popularity among the hunters, and to what wins in the hunts? I put an *** by the English because their breed standards are actually the least restrictive. However, a high number of English breeders have imposed their own restrictions and are breeding for the redtick color.

A Walker breeder wouldn't give a second thought to breeding their white female to a blanket-backed stud dog. It's just not an issue. Now, take an English breeder with a redtick female. Do you think they'll be as quick to breed to a blanket-backed bluetick stud? Not likely! They'll likely want all redtick litters.

When color moves down the list of breeding priorities, something else (usually ability-based) moves up higher on the priority list. Walker breeders may talk about color, but you will seldom see them using color as one of their primary considerations when breeding dogs.

I HAVE SEEN MOST ALL BREED'S TREED AT SOME POINT IN TIME.
I DONT BELIEVE ANY DOG LOOKS BAD WHEN TREED . AS LONG AS THEY STAY AFTER TREEING TILL YOU GET THERE. MY NEPHEW HAS A BLUE DOG OUT OF DROOP JR. VERY NICE DOG. BUT TRAILS TO MUCH FOR ME. BUT WHEN HE TREE'S THERE IS NOT A BETTER SITE.
I PREFER WALKER BUT THATS ME. I HAVE SEEN BAD WALKERS AND OF ALL BREEDS.
