-- Best track dogs (Walker) (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=434322)
Ive seen alot of walkers flatout smoke a Deer, fox, yote, rabbit. I can count on one hand how many could tree a coon, they were Clover bred. If you want a track dog that is accurate get you a Swamp Cat or Rocky bred hound.

I respect my elders but that don't mean I like what you like. A pack of dogs running a coon track does not impress me in the least. Me too dogs do not impress me at all. Any mutt can jump in a pack and run. It takes a real dog to consistently get coons treed all alone. And i don't mean split off treed. I mean turned loose alone. No other dogs in the woods whatsoever. Give me a dog that you can consistently turn loose in ridge and mountain country all alone in thin coon and go see a coon on a consistent basis and I call that a real coondog. Take away the crutches and the training wheels folks ! Take away the feeder buckets, take away the leaves on the trees, take away all the other dogs. What your left with is what you got. I know what I got.

Grady- I do think that some are confused about pack dogs, I have seen an old pack dog hear a slight yelp and plum take a trail and tree away from the independent types. There isn't no me too involved it comes from competetive streak that wants to lead not follow. If anybody has ever followed 5 or 6 dogs together, you have probably seen it too, they are in it to win, and seem to take pride in it.

you can take the best dog in the world and someone will find something wrong with it. and take a dog that has all kinds of faults and get a group of buddies to brag on it ,then everyone wants to breed to it. if you took these high power dog and took the handler away you wouldnt have much more then a average dog

Well Dave , It's not a thing of the past. You just got to get past this dual grand this and dual grand that. Come bear huntin or cat huntin sometime, there is a whole gene pool that hasn't been dual granded. Don't get me wrong, I like ukc hunts, and I got a coondog to hunt in them, but for what you want you have to think outside the box. Some of the best lines are not promoted and you have to look for them.

There's got to be "something" about him that somebody didn't like.
Maybe he was too slow on track ! LOL

Well , now might be a good time to listen to some older guys then and learn then.
Because it was also back then that most dogs could tree together and not one off bark would be heard.
We'd sometimes hunt 6 or 8 dogs together after the Nite Hunt was over and hunt till daylight.
I remember one night we had 5 or 6 dogs on a tree and my dad and his friends sat down while us kids threw rocks at this coon till our arms got tired. ALL them dogs were on the same tree and none of them were tied back. Nobody was worried about letting them dogs tree together.

But what other bloodlines can run a track like this?
I have a female that is the fastest track dog I've ever seen she will be 8 in nov but still at her age nothing comes close to keepin up with her, Im a bear hunter an usually turn her in last just to give the others a head start, she seems to throw pups the same way.
quote:She was a very fast track dog,on a jumped bear, the few times I seen her.I was impressed, but it takes a lot more than that to make a bear dog for me. I am also not makeing lite of You,Russ and other breeders. I would love to have a grandnite, and just maybe if my luck holds, someday I will. But when I am shopping for a Bear dog ,the last thing I want to see is an allgrand pedigree. I want to see a long line of untitled hounds that were alive to breed ,only because they could track in varying conditions and do it to the satisfaction of hunters better than me.

Just because some shoot for makin theirs Dual grand does not mean they couldn't hang with the bigdogs. Also not hung up on titles on dogs to add in. Went that direction to have the first All Grand litter of Bludawgs. One of the most dissapointing cross' I ever made all for titles. Sad part is it took thousands of miles traveled & hiked, lost sleep & a crapload of money to get my half. Very valuable lesson learned just like the stuff I continue to learn daily.
Coondawg to coondawg & Don't care if their titled or not.I was bear huntin years before you had'ta start enterin the lottery to get a tag. Stop at any sport shop & buy it just like a small game license. Ran the crap outa coyotes as well for a lot of years.
I demand that same kinda go & grit in our coondawgs. Sent seraval pups west & some to Venezuala. Some guys have bought several. Probably some dang good coondawgs that never have or will see a coon but their shaggin the Big Cats. I've got pictures of Jaguars hangin with a pair of Bludawgs. Got pictures of the same dogs grubbin their quarry & there's a dozen dawgs or better & only 2 wearin trackin collars.
I know withouta doubt there is some overlooked blood that not many ever hear about but there's a lil more involved for me than a track to a tree. Deffinately some that are my kinda dawg no doubt but how do you find out if they got that lil extra that we all seek? Some you may never know about their ability as a coondawg with that lil extra because it doesn't get brought out cuz they don't hunt coon.
Not a gamblin man I guess,to much time wrpped up in our gig to experiment, "Basically".............

a dog directly off abbott's yadkin river cruise is by far the best track dog i've ever seen... strike same track in same place as another or 4 or 5 dogs it dont matter... DRIVE the track and be treed for a while before the other dogs get there... i havent ever seen anything like it.. swear to god that he's running a deer... and i just had a litter of pups off my female... she is a very good track dog... that will about always have the coon... she goes back to townsell's ridge roamer, beene & townsell's woody, roger eagle scout... research those 3 hounds and what they reproduced...
Fast
it aint packin and it ant, me tooing if you run to the tree ahead of everyone else, and have the meat
And its hard to bable when your in the leed too, not sayin that dont happen its just harder to prove when your in the front pullin everything else just sayin yawl
