I've known most of the men thats been in the hunts and shows for the last 40 yrs.
James Merchant, Tam Young and Junior Biggerstaff that bought old Table Rock Flying Hawk with Dad. Junior could get more out of a dog from the pup pin to a finished dog than anyone I've ever saw...

I was lucky enough to become aquainted with several great houndsmen over the years. I say lucky because they are as rare as a great hound.

Bob Burgess was the first to come into my life and really show my cocky self that I knew very little about training hounds, He taught me a lot.
I sure wish I would have thanked him properly before he passed on. RIP

Kenny Moore of Marion IN. also had a great influence on me. Kenny could make a dog the best it could be and was willing to share his knowledge with me. The 2 of us had had that rare relationship where we could critisize each others dogs and then jointly figure out how to better the dog. Thankyou Mr. Moore.

Russ Bellar has an uncanny ability of spotting a big winner before anyone else can see it, and then take the dog and prove himself right. Russ is the one that taught me that if you want somthing you have to want it worse than anyone else and be willing to work harder for it than anyone else. A more "driven" man I have never met. To know him and hunt with him makes it easier to see how one man won all those world hunts.

I had the opertunity to hunt with Jerry Winn enough to know that beneath everything else, he was a great houndsman. He could hunt with my dog one time and at the end of the night know him better than I did.

There are others that have and continue to help me learn how to become a better houndsman. I hope I can keep meeting and learning from those that know.

And Now

You Guys watch Daniel Wilson, he is just 21!

There are a lot of good hunters that are not good dog men. They buy most of their young dogs and they finish them out or pay someone else to hunt them. I have hunted with a lot of coon hunters and I think Chuck Dunlap from Fallsburg Ohio is one of the very best,if not the best.

Harold Holingsworth, Hugh Eubank, As far as Knowledge. Toby Lane as far as a pup trainer and all all around hard hunter. Kevin beasley as far as beagle man and look out he switcht to coondogs and has some upcoming hounds. Lonnie Ryan was a heck of a Blue dog trainer but he quit and went to fishn to bad for you bluedogmen............

He knows his dogs and their pedigrees. He is a pleasure hunter but he knows the different breds and bloodlines like the back of your hand . We went to pick up a pup from him and wound up staying there talking to him for five hours. No question goes unanswered. Even though I am a beginner he treated us with the upmost respect no matter how crazy some of my questions are. He calls to see how our pup is doing and she will be a year old in March. HE is a heck of a coonhunter and now friend. All his dogs are top notch with bloodlines old and new . Its amazing to talk to him. I hope to get to hunt with him someday......

LONNIE hunted with JR. JACKSON and DOUG JACKSON when they had a female called SOCK- EYE ( ANN), and was good friends with MAX HARSHA (BIG GAME). STEPHEN ALLEN he was an A-1 beagle man, And when I get a dog problem, I think what would STEPH or LONNIE do?, Both have passed several year's.And are missed.

Is Max Harsha still with us? Sold him a dog years back & really enjoyed visiting with him. even coon hunted a young dog for him one season.

Some of you old Finley River and Lone Pine guys may have known Donald Warfield from Maryland. I bought two dogs over the years that he had owned and to this day haven't found another broke like his were, never needed a lead and could send either of them to the truck from a mile away. Wish I had the talent to teach one like that.

What I have seen my dad (Cliff Reffitt or II Chance, to most of you) do with a young dog. When he brought Lumber home for the first time, he had plenty of faults. He turned him into a coondog. Lumber will now lock onto a tree and you are either giving him a coon(during season) or dragging him away from the tree with his front legs crossed on the lead. When you cut him loose you better be ready to walk cause the only time you will see him again is when he is treed. Back in my younger days when he was starting his own dogs. he would spend hours just walking pups through the woods and patiently waiting till the finally took off on their own. Now we are a hunting family, Dad, Me, Amber(my 16yo daughter), and Braxton(17yo nephew).

I am absolutely the best I ever saw . I have heard of some mo famous but I know every bark a dog ever spouted out his mouth , being a lieing dog or a truthful dog. AND , I am going to get better. Yes I am . When I can afford to put a GPS Collar on a coon that will stay charged up for a whole season so that I don't have to BS you boys .......... I, as wellas ya'll azz , can quit fantasizing and they can quit telling tarrydinkles LOL . I'm still the best I know of till somebody puts a collar on a coon and satisfy me I am incorrect about my claims.

ill agree with jim on this one marv schmucker is a good pic and i would say that as far as getting one RIGHT and fine tuning one i would have to throw todd wahl into the mix him and marv are a very good team, Brian whitted keeps one the healthiest and takes dang good care of his hounds
