-- Rides at a nite hunt (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=412428)
None of this will happen to me again..EVER! Like I said earlier..Where my dog goes..My truck goes..I dont care if the hunts 700 miles away..I'm driving..You can ride with me but I dont want to see anybody on here crying about somebody not giving them a ride or getting scratched when the hour is running and they cant round their dog up because the driver of the truck is getting his...I rode 1 time..I was far away from home..Didnt know hardly anybody...Left my truck at the main club..Drew to a sat club 70 miles away...First thing I did was forget my stupid light in my dogbox, Thanks to a good guy up there..I got to borrow one..Next nobody had room for me..The non hunting judge finally let me ride with him.Called time out on cast..I had to hoof it a long ways in a hour and get my dog..Nobody took me.They were trying to get their dogs back also..Judge and guide were not worried about if I got back or not...Then I get back to sat club..Ol boy I rode there with had left me lol...I finally found a guy headed back toward main club to where truck was..He would not take any money from me..I'll tell you the truth..I hated bumming those rides that night..I'm just not that kind of person!! When I go now..I'm always prepared..A man with a truck on a night hunt is bad business,,

mauser06 i'll warn you, if i'm carrying the scorecard and i draw you, i will expect you to treat people fairly, and help people out anyway they need it, yes even if it means giving them a ride, if you don't i will scratch you for unsportsman like conduct.
i'll tell you what rubs me the wrong way is people like you, who takes food to the woods with them and munches on dorritos and stuff like that while people are trying to hear their dogs, and do tell just what "supplies" do you need for a nite hunt, yeah i can see a drink, boots, lead, light, dog, and yes i'll even grant you the emergency kit in case a dog gets hurt. but do tell just what other supplies do you need for a cast.

Why would you, as a judge, scratch someone for something you have to know won't hold up if question? I say "have to know" because I can't believe you actually think a judge can scratch a handler for something that is in no way addressed in the rules.
Why even embarasse yourself like that?

my justification is rule 6 g: if handler is drinking OR seems to want to stir up trouble. you refuse someone a ride, they get ticked off and withdrawl, just like in my cast i don't tolerate the hollering and yelling of the cast members, if they do i take that as intimidation and ukc will handle accordingly per rule 19

the person needing a ride gets mad and withdraws, then it sets the tone for a bad evening, thus causing the environment for trouble

boys here is what i expect and enforce on my cast, a fair hunt, people to help one another, and for the best dog to win. pure and simple, anything else will withdraw, scratch or go back to the moh. also i ride, and a cast wouldn't give me a ride, so i walked. that was a slow track to the woods, and when they left me i returned to the moh due to cast separation, and was sent on a one dog cast with a nonhunting judge.
as for the rider i expect them to help with gas, or something to the drivers satisfaction. i'm not talking about cast members giving a FREE ride.

As I said in an earlier post, I can't ever recall refusing anyone a ride. But try scratching me for refusing to haul someone and I can promise that judge will get a first hand education in how the Misconduct Complaint process works. I've never wrote anyone up in my life but for that one, I'd do it in a microsecond.

Should scratch the one that dont have a ride if hes old enough to drive..I'm not the one who dont have a truck..It could all be avoided if hed have drove..Plus I'd like to draw you somewhere..We shall see what happens when I dont give somebody a ride..I cant really believe I'm actually reading this one here..Your a judge for peaks sake..You can not tell me who I can or cant put in my truck..

hey the guy with no ride can always walk, and when the cast leaves him cause they drive faster than he walks, he can go to the moh and say his cast left him, and he can get a 1 dog cast. but then again if i'm the judge, then he won't get left he and i both will take care of the situation accordingly. nuff said, i'm done i've spoken my peice, and i'd love to draw you guys in a hunt sometime.

LOL!!! scratch me! we'll still be in the clubhouse or parking lot...i will simply walk back inside and tell the MOH or pay my 20$ for my question and you'll never be judging again!
not having room or not offering a free ride is not unsportsmans like conduct..sorry bud...there isnt a rule that says "mauser06 must offer a ride"
i dont have a club within an hour of my house (i know thats not far to some) but when im driving 1-3hrs and will be hunting who knows where in who knows what weather conditions, i prepare for the worst...full change of clothes, boots, light, you name it i likely got 2...im sportsman enough that if someones light goes down i got one for them to borrow..
i have room for myself, my dog, and my stuff in MY truck...
i do carry snacks and drinks..but ive never eaten or drank once im out of MY truck..
i am guilty of getting "un-sportsmans like" when the judge wants to circle slick trees or strike a babbling dog on the last drop to ensure the win etc etc...ive been threatened with a scratch for my mouth but i wont take cheating...scratch me for it...i'll then go back to the clubhouse with 2 questions on the card..1 for the cheating and 1 for my scratch...i'll likely loose but any club worth going to will not let that guy judge again...so i still win in the long run by never having to deal with that guy again..
ive caught lost dogs...helped a guy that was upto his waist in the mud...he literally might have died there had i not pulled him out...i hold fences down and grab your dog lead so you can cross..im one of the most sportsmen like guys on a cast...and at the end of the nite, if you win fairly, i'll congratulate you and shake your hand and tell you you got a nice dog..
sorry i dont see it as un-sportsmens like for me not to give rides to adults that have money for an entry fee but not for gas...
ive just seen it all too many times that the guy that "doesnt have a ride" goes over to a brand new 40,000$ truck, fancy dog box, top of the line gear etc etc and gets his dog out and when i come back at the end of the nite that truck is still sitting there...
i'll help in any way i can...but you went to a nite hunt knowing darn well you were gunna need a ride, or have one and just want a free ride...i have a tough time feeling obligated to give guys a ride...
i cant believe guys really think we should feel bad or be SCRATCHED for not offering a ride! give me a break...
might as well pick the guys up at their house and drive them around all nite for the fun of it and so you can be a good sportsmen...that way they dont even need to worry about getting to the clubhouse!

Sportsmanship !
Sportsmanship typically is regarded as a component of morality in sport, composed of three related and perhaps overlapping concepts: fair play, sportsmanship and character.[2] Fair play refers to all participants having an equitable chance to pursue victory[3] and acting toward others in an honest, straightforward, and a firm and dignified manner even when others do not play fairly.
I see alot of folks lacking this. And i bet most of those that think and feel negative about this are not members of a club that depends on keeping guest/hunters coming back hunt after hunt in order to keep the doors open. Just my own opinion but i will offer a ride 2 atleast 2 other guys and 1 or 2 dogs thank you very much !

I use and recommend Backwoods Supplies
so friends carpool to the hunt together to save gas money, but im suppose to take a stranger back to the club house that might add another 1.5 hours to my ride? how's that fair?
its one thing if you live close to the clubhouse and the woods is close to the clubhouse, but down here where we are at, that typically isnt the case. i dont mind giving a ride to the woods, its the getting back part that is the issue.
again, we finish the cast and its a dead cast, im 45 minutes from my house but the club is 45 minutes the opposite direction. i now have to drive 45 minutes back to the club, another 45 minutes to get back to where we finished up the cast and then another 45 to get home. my 45 minute trip just turned into a 2 hour 15 minute dirve at a very late hour. excuse me for not feeling like doing that. and if i was the one needing the ride, i woudnt feel right asking someone to do so.

Next he's gunna come back and say well don't ask me for a ride....
Don't worry, I won't! If I can't drive myself to the club and to the woods, I won't be entering a dog...I promise!
Someone gets stuck and MY tow strap and MY truck can't help them out, or they break down, or something, heck ya jump in...use my phone to call help, I will take ya somewhere in the nearest town to meet someone for farther help...you can finish the hunt in my truck if ya want...
I'm a good guy and willling to help a hunter...I really am...I just don't see how its my problem, or anyone elses in a cast that someone went to a nite hunt without a vehicle...
