Thanks Dale. I knew it was this way in the show, and assumed it to be this way in the hunt. If you could get points at multiple RQEs that would really change things in the hunt.

I wonder if you win your cast an RQE,receive your Purina points for the cast win, but don't qualify, if you could continue to receive Purina points at additional RQE cast wins?

I do not run the purina events, but I do know people that do that has told me what they have to do each year to do these events. For example: Some one told me once that they take so much out of their paycheck a week to sock away in a savings account for these events.... Instead of taking a two week vacation for christmas, they only take one week to save the time to go to these events,.,... They sacrifice to go and support the clubs, events, and such.... Think about it.... so Kudos to those that do these events year after year... I wish I had that kind of dedication.

#1 Travel is a given for Purina points. Most run it for fun and for me in the show we're usually friends who work hard to best each other in the ring and may go eat together after. Things being different now if you still want to attend the big ones and breed days everything except home state and rqe's will be extra miles.

#4 that's pretty much what Purina points are about, more so for the hunt.

#6 Thank you, some have more some have less, for the most part it's a matter of willingest to spend it on what you like to do same as cars,boats,atvs,golf,vacations,shopping,etc.. Expenses have changed with the times, can't remember the last time I stayed at a $40(total cost) motel or fuel wasn't around $3 or more and dog food is crazy, maybe because that corn nobody likes is used for gas now. When alone I've spent many a night in my truck with no ill affects. LOL

Not sure about that, my experience is in the show and you have to win to be qualified and that also gets points. I know you can enter as many as necessary until you get qualified. These days I would think a cast win would usually get you in at most rqes.

Sure would, hunt and show and still be pretty much local. It would however make it hard for some to get qualified for the world and a local advantage to states with more rqe's than others. Also would change some what the concept of the total dog in all different areas for the hunt.

I think it is great. The only other rule I would like for the show part is that a show dog show it will hunt before it can go to world. Just a first place or HTX. Just something to show it will hunt too. I think that would keep them from getting bred just for looks. I think most of them could do it with no problem.

I don't have any problem with that idea except......not all dogs that can and will hunt are competition caliber. So, as long as they only require either an HTX title or possibly a test similar to single registering a dog, I would be all for that requirement.

Yea that is all I am talking about. Just something that show it will hunt. Just kind of insurance that the hunting blood and show blood doesn't ever get to far apart.

Im in agreement with Lisa - dont go there. that opens a whole can of worms because the opposite could be said for the hunting dogs as well: "they need to meet breed standards before they can hunt". I know that there are some that do both and that's great. for whatever reasons some do not..however, there are some that can not stand straight w/o their knees touching 'but it can tree a coon' and is continually bred for that. if hunt proof is required of dogs that show, then meeting breed standards is required of dogs that hunt. fair's fair. imo

I would agree that one should meet breed standards before they can hunt my self. That is what it is all supose to be about. Improveing the breed or atleast not looseing what we have.

$ 3.00 gas and people that can't drive all the way across the united states to the big hunts that are all out east I think. That and all the decline in state hunt numbers.

Once again we reward those who don't make the grade, just like keeping the clubs around that hold 3-4-5 dog hunts, by going to the hunt chairman rather then require clubs to have MOH ??

Take away the major hunts like your major Breed days that have busted their butts to build and make the numbers, bring in the hunters and show folks by holding qaulity events and now we are going to just give this major event status to events of 20-35 dogs ??

One major breed days event of 2 days will take most of these state events listed 5-6 times of hosting their event to equal the number of dogs in attendance ??

I thought purnia points were supose to reward the hunter not the club. There are more and more hunters that can't drive all the way across america to hunt. It is supose to be about keeping hunters in the hunt and maybe this will bring more to the state hunts and it isn't takeing anything away from the hunters. They can still go for the points. It is just all of them have a chance to go for them now. If you loose your job like a lot of them have you might like it better too.

As I've said I applaud the effort but I don't believe Purina points will save the State Hunts with any large amount of new entries, they had it during better times and couldn't maintain it in all but 7 states.
Breed Days tend to move around some so you might get lucky and be close .
Usually it's the amount of entries you get that has a large say so in the location of hunts.
I've never had a dog in the Purina hunt and have no idea what kind of money they actually win. I do know about the show and I can tell you that except for the painting( that only a few of us has and that it means a great deal to) the money is pocket change in comparison to the expense.
It is what it is for now and we'll see how it works. If it does what it's hoped to do it will be great. In all honesty during hard times it may not be a true test of change and I think anyone who thinks they're going to win it without driving the miles is in for a surprise.

Does anybody know what ALL the changes are besides the designated hunts ?

I think if they would get the state races going they were talking about it would help the local hunts out more than anything they could do but as long as they are trying differant things till they hit on something that works they have my suport for what it is worth.

Always figured the time of year dictated when and where most hunts are held. The south has most of their big ones during the spring when heat, snakes,gators and bugs aren't as bad and the north has cold & snow and unusually bad travel conditions. In the summer things move north.
