Hunting dog could not enter another rqe once qualified with the exception of a breed specific rqe at a breed days. I assume they would not be able to aquire more Purina points but allowed to hunt to be in the running for their overall breed days title.
I like the new format,,especially on the Breed hunts not being a Purina Event,,
Good Job UKC

1) What I can see is the travel will be about the same. It will take time and gas to get to these events no matter where you are at.... Same as the old Purina events
2) Plus it will benefit each state: Think about it. For each state event, people would be coming in getting motels, shopping and etc.... money runs in the state or the area the event will be held at.. so it is like economy boost. So each state will benefit from it.
3) there will new comers coming in with different dogs and each.. More people to meet and talk hounds.
4) plus each state is different, has different terrain and many different offers of food, people and places. new sites to see.
5) this will give a us a chance as houndsmen to support other state houndsmen to promote the coonhounds, and get more coverage to know each state leg. about the laws and get people aware of what is going on
6) about the money situation, I know this as a fact, talking to several different people showing and hunting at these events... They are like us. they have to save up money and sacrifice holidays to get the time off... Some people do this for recreation and pleasure. it is their vacation time. when others take up the vacation time during christmas and such... You have others use their vacation for these dog events. So lay off about the money bags and such. They have to save money up to do these each year.........
I do not run the purina events, but I do know people that do that has told me what they have to do each year to do these events. For example: Some one told me once that they take so much out of their paycheck a week to sock away in a savings account for these events.... Instead of taking a two week vacation for christmas, they only take one week to save the time to go to these events,.,... They sacrifice to go and support the clubs, events, and such.... Think about it.... so Kudos to those that do these events year after year... I wish I had that kind of dedication.

I think it is great. The only other rule I would like for the show part is that a show dog show it will hunt before it can go to world. Just a first place or HTX. Just something to show it will hunt too. I think that would keep them from getting bred just for looks. I think most of them could do it with no problem.

Im in agreement with Lisa - dont go there. that opens a whole can of worms because the opposite could be said for the hunting dogs as well: "they need to meet breed standards before they can hunt". I know that there are some that do both and that's great. for whatever reasons some do not..however, there are some that can not stand straight w/o their knees touching 'but it can tree a coon' and is continually bred for that. if hunt proof is required of dogs that show, then meeting breed standards is required of dogs that hunt. fair's fair. imo

What was the matter with the old format? Who in the world decided that it needed "fixing"?
$ 3.00 gas and people that can't drive all the way across the united states to the big hunts that are all out east I think. That and all the decline in state hunt numbers.

Will all state hunts be required to be two day hunts? Because the past few years PA has only been one night.
I wouldn't think so but I hope they all have to go to a 2 day hunt just to be able to hunt all the dogs. ( :

Well only thing I can say is here we go rewarding those who don't and have not done the work, meaning meeting the required number to be a purina points event !!
Once again we reward those who don't make the grade, just like keeping the clubs around that hold 3-4-5 dog hunts, by going to the hunt chairman rather then require clubs to have MOH ??
Take away the major hunts like your major Breed days that have busted their butts to build and make the numbers, bring in the hunters and show folks by holding qaulity events and now we are going to just give this major event status to events of 20-35 dogs ??
I just don't understand it, guess I never will.
Also once you reach 200 points we all hunt together so if only 2-3 dogs end up coming to these events it will just be "beat the 2-3 same dogs" to win the title ?? I don't see anything special in this, its just like winning your cast but against the same dogs weekend after weekend ??
I don't think it will carry the same prestiege that it has over the many years it has been in place.
Just my opinion but trying to level the playing field,
Grand American
Winter Classic
Southern English Days
South Carolina Championship
Southern Redbone Days
South Eastern Walker Days
North Carolina Championship
Virginia State Championship
8 major Purina points hunts in the South before the month of May ??? Before attending a RQE !!!!
I can't believe Purina went for this
again, just my opinion but I think you will see fewer folks running the events and it will end up being a regional thing on who gets out and hits those events close to home, and then stays home.
One major breed days event of 2 days will take most of these state events listed 5-6 times of hosting their event to equal the number of dogs in attendance ??

I like the State hunts in but hate losing the big ones and the breed days.
As I've said I applaud the effort but I don't believe Purina points will save the State Hunts with any large amount of new entries, they had it during better times and couldn't maintain it in all but 7 states.
Breed Days tend to move around some so you might get lucky and be close .
Usually it's the amount of entries you get that has a large say so in the location of hunts.
I've never had a dog in the Purina hunt and have no idea what kind of money they actually win. I do know about the show and I can tell you that except for the painting( that only a few of us has and that it means a great deal to) the money is pocket change in comparison to the expense.
It is what it is for now and we'll see how it works. If it does what it's hoped to do it will be great. In all honesty during hard times it may not be a true test of change and I think anyone who thinks they're going to win it without driving the miles is in for a surprise.
Does anybody know what ALL the changes are besides the designated hunts ?
I think if they would get the state races going they were talking about it would help the local hunts out more than anything they could do but as long as they are trying differant things till they hit on something that works they have my suport for what it is worth.
