I showed my champion walker female at oaks and everything was going good until i had to gait. I knew she would get a lil scarred at times, but she was REALLy scarred when i approched Wayne, I'm sure some of that was nerves from me and her sincing that. but at the Local shows she doesnt act like that while gating.

By Gosh ppl this is a Coonhound event, not Westminster. yes the dogs should be performing well at this caliber of an event, but still its just a bench show. Designed to show off your Hounds to fellow hunters/ showers. these are all hunting dogs not poddles. I do think the show was a lil langthy, but i do belive this was the best judging i have sean since my 4 years showing at Oaks.

Congrats to all the Winners!!!!!!!!

Jarrod Ball

My thougths too Jarrod....Mine did good concidering that one had to get the coon programmed out of his brain a month before the show. The other had never been to an event of this caliber. No matter how much you work with them, sometimes ya just have to expect the unexpected..I was proud of both of them.

UKC COONHOUND BENCH SHOW RULES
Rule 30. Dogs must be evaluated both while gaited and shown on the bench. In order to properly evaluate the coonhound, the dog must be compared to the standard on the bench to assess its conformation and gaited to determine the efficiency and athleticism of the dog's locomotion.

UKC COONHOUND BENCH SHOW JUDGES AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Rule #8 Judge must see that all handlers walk or gait dogs. Dogs must be gaited for Judge to determine any weaknesses in the locomotion of the dog. Dogs must be evaluated on the bench to determine to what degree the dog conforms to the breed standard.

From what I saw on Saturday, I can't see how anyone could complain about what the Judges did. They did a hands on inspection of the dogs, gaited the dogs, and then evaluated them on the bench just like the rule book states. One judge had the handlers gait them down & back twice & looked at the dogs from the front & the back and then the side. The other judge had the handlers circle the benches so he could look at them from front, back & side. This thread makes it sound like we had to run the dogs all over the building. LOL.
