A top dog can usually be tied or housed behind the house of a true coon hunter, someone who is willing to sacrifice night in and night out....one who goes hunting regardless of the fact that its raining or about to rain. One that goes on nights when others think he's "crazy".

Top Dogs

I'm new to the message boards but i'm not new to the coon dog world, or the night hunt's .
there is a big 3 listed on this board that is from Indiana I would like to hear what they consider a top dog is , and I think others might want to also.
i have hunted dogs in hunts for my self and other people and have won, but to me there is only one type of dog that you can win with.
it has to be a STAY PUT tree dog no mater what right, wrong, fang presure, what ever it has to stay. and dogs like this are few and far between.

Oak Ridge I agree with you on this one!!Cornell to me is a top hound because he is pleasing to hunt and to everybody that has hunted him.He proved he could win in thick coon and thin coon!And most people who have hunted with him even when he lost were impressed because he still was nononsense trying to compete and tree a coon !!Not a one hit wonder or a crazy airheaded run all over the country getting your blood pressure up,crossing your fingers hoping to have a good hunt!!!

One of the first things you have to learn about his message board is the name Smokey7, who is also Black Sheep, who is also Baldwin1987, and has been banned from this board more times than most of us can remember.

My name was on that list, mostly because Jason (that's Smokey/sheep/baldwin real first name) is blowing some more smoke. Niether JiM, elvis, or myself have ever let him just get away with assuming that the whole world is cut from the same mold as his North Georgia world. He's the guy that has actually been in two or three competition hunts, but wants to tell us all they are "the devil", and that everyone that wins one must be cheating.

I see you have a 219 area code.....get with me and I'll be happy to show you what I think a good dog is....as soon as I find one!

Indiana has top hounds and some top hunting and I love to come up that way because most of my mediocre dogs around here seem to look a whole lot better up yalls way...I hope I can get more invites up there

is the world hunt in tenessee this year. can't wait to see who makes the final cut this year. i bet it will be from the big xii or sec area. the big ten hunting is just to easy like there football teams. if you want to be the real top dog you have to hunt with the top dogs in unchartered water.

yes we can get together some time, but between my huntting partner and myself we are hunting 3 top dogs that will be in the hunts this year, his name is Mike Van Dusen and he is going to turn me lose with a full litter mate brother of your hallie female he has been in 2 hunts so far and won a 2nd i have a female and Mike has another young male dog (you can see PIC. in the snow site)
I like to hunt with top dogs, just to see if my thoughts of a top dog is what other people think is a top dog .

just having some fun, not really trying to be a but. i would like to come up that way and hunt a few days, they say its easyer to get pups going in all those coons than anywhere. i'd like to hunt some of the places they hunt in the world hunt just to check out the terain. practice makes perfect. hopefully i'll qualify my young Storm dog to make it.

Thick coon

when they hold the world in thick coon it is only natural that dogs from a state with thick coon are going to do well.

I made it to the world finals last year with my blue tick and drove from california . my dog is used to working hard and maybe tree 1 or 2 coons a night.

If the world was held in thin coon the winners would be from states with thin coon .

Not complaining i under stand why they hold it in thick coon

like ole oakie says, if you wanna see what a real dog is you must go with one of the "big 3". They know coondogs and they created coondogs. They have the coondogs and without them there would be no coondogs. All coondogs that were created were created by them and without the big 3 there are no dogs. Competition dogs are coondogs and coondogs are competition dogs. If you enter a hunt and lose, it's because you didn't contact the "big 3" first and you don't really have a true coondog. Because coondog's win and winning is coondogs. The state of Indiana owns the coondogs. If you want a coondog you must go to Indiana and submit your request to the "big 3". The big 3 are from Indiana and remember what i said before. They are for coondogs, about coondogs, by coondogs and they own all the coondogs. If you tree a coon with a dog it means nothing unless you got your dog from Indiana and it was approved through the "big 3". All transactions must be approved by them first or it is null and void. If your from somewhere besides Indiana and you tree a coon your just decieving yourself. You didn't really tree a coon. You just thought you did. That is, unless the dog on your lead came from one of the big 3 or was an approved transaction of the big 3. Once they say a dog is a coondog, then and only then is it a coondog. Not before. Now, it's nearly noon in the day and time for all us peasants to kneel and face northward toward Indiana and pray............
