Russ, My ol Joe dog would get treed just about everytime you cut him loose. Seven miles down the river in mid-January is tooooo far. I had many guys ask me how I hunted him without a tracking unit. A dog isn't hard to find with a big mouth and he is treed. I always thought I needed a hard going get deep type hound with a touch of crazy to tree lots of coon. I didn't realize how a coon treeing machine operated and certainly didn't realize that I could be happy with one. Coon population hasn't changed and I normally don't have to change sections to look at a coon. Last fall Rebel treed 11 single coon and a couple den trees and I didn't hunt but six hours. I never walked over 1/4 mile to any tree. He will make most hounds babble when cut on water but slows down as soon as he ditches them. He has increased his hunting distance with age. I don't expect him to ever be a super like Spanky. There has been just very few times that he has disapointed me.

Just between me and you!! Jet 8 will cross very well with your female!!! I have study the crosses and if you look at what is out there getting the job done!! Nine , 2 yr olds are going to world hunt that is bred the same as yours!! One is a little out!! That's all I have to offer!! Thanks and everyone has a view!! When you breed them, nothing is for sure!! Don't matter who they are out of!! I have made dual crosses, 1st was great and 2nd where culls!! Go figure!! God has his place along with mother nature!! Bottom Line:
Take the gyp and breed to a top hound. She has all the genetics to produce a get through the country coondog. I know where there is a no titled cooooooon dog that is 2 yrs. old. You get one chance to turn him loose before you take him off the side of a tree. He has been this way since he was started at a young age. Is that what your looking for? "Yes", I have offered pretty good money for this dog and "no" was the answer.

Danny you are exactly right.

A couple weeks back a roader attacked us. The four dogs we had, two were young dogs all smelt the coon and opened as they busted across the ditch into a cut wheat field and down a hedge row a few yards away. They no more got out of site, some babbling and racing away when Rebel came right back to the ditch where he last smelt it and treed the coon thirth yards down the fence row. The others got treed at the end of the fence row in the big woods. They had a litter treed. They all looked good but the two guys with me complimented the dummy for stumbling around and treeing a puppy coon. A coondog with brains and a little indendant can look good at times.

Russ, Don was down last summer for a hunt. He had Becky and I had Rebel and a pup out of Bock and Lucy. That eight month old pup struck a track 200 yards left handed trailed it back our direction and smashed one on two Gr. Nt Ch. The pup won the cast since we didn't look at anouther coon. We could hunt anouther hundred nights and he wouldn't beat those two hounds but it can happen. I always like those hunts where any dog can win with 10 minutes left.

Rusty Merriman has an old Gr Nt out of my old Amy (Echo II's dam) female and his old Gr Nt Travler dog that throws some nice pups, Gunner was a natural that was started and hunted by himself until he turned one year old, he produces hard hunting pups that can get down a track.

Dustyn , he was out of A J and some of LLoyd stuff by Locktite.

Troy told me tonight that Gunner and Traveler are both dead. I think he said that he found out that Gunner had died a couple weeks ago.

So you are saying everything you know about a dog based on one nite hunt??? Why cant you believe that Danny would want a challange between Gauge and Janice? Ive hunted with lots of dogs and every one on here knows that theres not much difference between a GOOD coondog and a GREAT coondog. If you have a dog that will run and tree open accordingly and not miss very often youve got a coondog. In my opinion you cant get much better every dog is gona have an off night just like people having a bad day. The only difference between good coondogs is speed. JMO
