I hate to bgreak it to yo guys but woith the cost of corn and soybeans going thru the roof NO dog feed company will be able to keepo their prices low..they will all rise.

The company I work for has spent $80,000,000 more in feed costs for my area alone this year.

I handle Black Gold dog food and no one hates the increases any more than the next guy. I am a houndsman first, and am for every houndsman out there, but the truth of the matter is everything is costing more.
Groceries cost for each and every one of our homes have gone up. What it cost to go to work, hunt, and vacation has gone up due to feul cost. Fuel cost has affected everything out there as far as expenses out of a house hold goes. It's not right, and not just Black Gold dog food is affecting our wallets. It is good food in the middle of the road price. Cheap is cheap and expensive is expensive. I guess it is easy to complain about the middle. It works for me and I will continue to feed it, because I tried everything else.

I'm not at all complaining about the price, infact it's ALOT cheaper than anything else you can buy around here anyway. If you'd read my posts, I'm having some issues revolving around the quality from one bag to the next. For the record, I like Black Gold alot and feed it too. I just had some problems, or I should say Black Gold had some problems that I'd like to know if they've been resolved or not before I buy more bags. When I saw that they were watching this thread I had hoped to get a response or even a call like the other guy got. Still hopeful, as I am a customer. Again, the guy I buy it from it a top notch guy and it's good feed when it's on...I just have questions I'd like answered about how my dogs were on certain bags.

Nothing I stated was dirrected toward your concerns of quailty, they would be one of my concerns too, but so far I haven't experienced that. I hope you get a call to answer your concerns, Black Gold is good to deal with.

Black Gold

I'm a distributor for Black Gold. I will take back a bag and replace it if you do not like the way the bag is glued. This company is so dedicated to quality of their product, if you are not happy with anything, they will make it right. I have been working with this company now for over 5 years and I have not had any quality issues that would not be present for any other company regardless of the price per bag. I am convinced that there is no other company out there any more committed to it's customers, dealers and distributors, I've been in the feed business for 30 years.

From what I understand they are watching this thread, and so I've been inquiring about my issues with the feed and nobody has responded. I'm almost out of Black Gold, and am currently mixing what I have now with Purina One. All the stool issues I was dealing with have gone away since doing this. I dont want to but more Black Gold until I've been informed by the company that there was an issue, and that it's been found and fixed. My distributor did offer to take my remaining bags back, but I dont think it's fair to stick him with bad feed is it? My first 2 deliveries were great, I was very, very happy with the results..the cost is fantastic as well. Right now, if I dont hear from someone I'll be forced to go back to Purina permanently. I'm here waiting

I would bet that the your first 2 loads came out of Missouri (Doanes) and your last load came from Sunshine Mill in VA. From what I have been told there is a big difference in the quality. I had the same problem and I am from VA. I quit BG when i realized the food had changed manufacturing locations.

Bighunter 1 what did you switch to? I am feeding black to one dog and blue to another that had weight maintenance issues with black. He gained the weight but now it seems he doesn't have that "love the food" action when I go to feed him.

When I switched from Purina performance to the black bag he acted like I was switching him from dog food to steak. Just went crazy eating it out of my hand.

Anyone else feeding blue bag? Are they as aggressive on it as the black bag or am I in the middle of a supply switch with a decrease in tastiness.

I used to feed the house dog Nutripet from Amway/Quixstar a few years back. Brought the bag in the house and the dog would go over and sit by it. That is the kind of reaction I want from a dog about his food.

BTW, My dealer said his black bags went up 37 cents from the distributer with his last purchase yesterday.

Listen, if you want to find a problem with just about anything, you can. However, do not think twice about sticking your distributor with "bad feed". He can only find if there is a problem by you bringing it back to him rather than just telling him something's wrong. If and when I have a complaint, the first thing I need is the feed and the original bag and the "best by" code. That tells me where it was manufactured and where we go from there. I've never had an issue with the black or blue bag since I've been with them, but I have had a few issues and it was handled as soon as I sent a sample and code. The customer shouldn't have to worry about this, return the bag and get another, open it before you leave and make sure it's right! Quality control is the company's problem, not that of the customer. The feed is unconditionally guaranteed, that means unconditionally! There are not many companies who will do that. It doesn't matter where it's made for those of you that are hung up on that, if it is made in a plant that makes "Ol Roy", it is made to Black Gold standards under a contract with the manufacturer and under the direct supervision of a Black Gold manufacturing representative who understands everything there is to know about their product. It is made to their formulations. Just as if they were manufacturing it themselves.

It matters very much where it is made at! If you are truly a dist. in NC then you are supplied by the Sunshine plant in VA? I was told by a local dealer that the problem is the VA plant for NC, SC, VA.

Looking into it further, I asked a friend of mine who knows quite a bit about mixing feed. Also did allot of web searches about ingredient handling. It seems the issues I'm experiencing, which are watery, runny stools, dogs going alot, and dogs not keeping weight on is most likey due to improper manufacturing procedure. By not heating the mixer or spill tubes high enough when mixing in tallow (source of fat) it coagulates and you get huge inconsistencies. The last part of the batch is loaded with tallow, that will cause a dog to have allot of watery stool. If it's moving through them so fast, the dog cant absorb nutrition and ends up losing weight. The fix from what I understand is more heat during the manufacture process. Maybe the higher cost of oil is causing them to try to get by with as low a heat as possible to try to save manufacturing costs? This is just speculation...I dont know, I dont work for the feed companies...it's just what I've read and learned. I do believe this is NOT Black Golds problem directly, because this falls under quality control at the individual plant where it's made, and by supervisors to be sure the mixing procedure directed by Black Gold is being followed. Clearly this isn't what Black Gold wants it's feed to end up like, because as I've said my first and second delivery was a wonderful product. Now with that said, I the customer shouldn't have to conduct research on the problems of a feed company. I've asked on here, and sent an e-mail to "contact_us@blackgolddogfood.com" and haven't received any sort of response. Thats begining to make me a little angry. If I were in the dogfood business, I for sure would be very closely but silently monitoring the various message boards just to keep tabs on what my customers were experiencing. This is FREE input directly from the customer..that just makes sense doesn't it? For reasons I'm almost finding unbelievable, I'd still like to stay with Black Gold if I can be guaranteed that the product will be just like what I had been getting before. For now, I have 5 new 44 lb. bags of Purina One Lamb and Rice 26/16 in the basement...I like everything about this feed other than the high price at $29 per bag. If anyone has read my past posts...when I'm happy with a product, I'm the companies best advertising. I'm vocal and opinionated and go out of my way to tell people about the products I like and have had success with. I meet alot of new people every day. I'm also very vocal when I dont like something. Please make me like Black Gold again.

Black Gold

What you are told about the feed coming from Halifax is not my experience. I have gotten I think 7 loads from there and I am having "zero" problems with the black or blue bag. In fact, I've only had 1 problem in total so far and it was operator mistake, I had an answer for my cusomer in 24 hours from when they received the sample. Please, if you are having a product problem, return the subject feed to your dealer or distributor with the "Best by" code and let them handle it for you. Black Gold does monitor some of these threads, however, they don't monitor them all, I have relayed all this information to them and I can assure you that with a sample of the problem, something will get done. With nothing we can only get nothing. As to the tallow issue, the grade of poultry fat used in Black Gold is the finest quality that can be gotten, there is no beef tallow in it. I am not sure if the handling is that much different or not. I want you to want Black Gold again!

My last load of Black Gold came from North Carolina and I've fed three bags so far and I haven't had any problems. Also my dealer told me that the price of the Black Gold was set for at least six months so my next load will cost me the same 18.00 dollars a bag that I have been paying. Has anyone else heard anything about the price being set like this for the next six months?
