Todd

Seems like most want to be able to search records of pedigrees and points, PAD, ect. Also seems like most are willing to pay around 20.00 a year to do so... What are the powers that be in Kalamazoo thinking ?????

My .02 cents......
It cost a club 42.00 to have a hunt and show,,then an additional 1.50 a dog,,my club alone has 7 hunts per year and averages 10-12 dogs in the show and 20-23 in the hunt,, now consider the number of clubs doin this ,,and the amount of people hours it should free up,,wouldn't that more then pay for it??

Annual Fee

I'd certainly be willing to pay an annual fee. The $20 figure mentioned sounds reasonable. Depends on the level of service.

I don't think ownership transfers or registration on line would be a good idea. No signatures.

As far as filing hunt results online, I think you may find too many mistakes to do this.

Simply put, any processing of records is best left to your staff.

Online research is what I'd be interested in. I do believe you'd have to set limits though, or some people would end up trying to research everything that's available to research.

Something I didn't see mentioned. I'd hate to see the site or database used as a research tool by dog thieves. That seems like something that should be considered.

I have wondered why UKC didn't already have this available.

I am a member of American Quarter Horse Assoc. and they provide pedigree searches free to their members. Price of membership includes access to pedigrees, titles earned and much more all available on the internet.
Also there are sites available for free on Appaloosa pedigrees and wins.
I think it would be much cheaper for UKC to provide this service, and would cut back on phone calls to UKC. Maybe do away with a couple job positions for thoses answering calls. If we can access this via internet we wouldn't have to call in taking up UKC's time. Cost should prove to be less. Thats the excuse I'm given for large companys switching to automated phone services and computers, it saves them money. Just my opinion, hope you all do provide this service soon.

You wouldn't have to put the owner's address on the information. But, alot of owners run ads like I do. I have my dogs insured with a Smith and Wesson insurance policy.
From what I understand, UKC was going to offer a similar service last year but didn't want to have it's data base availible to hackers. If I were them, I sure would use a very secure data base independant of UKC's main computer. A tree hugger hacker could do some serious damage.

We are members of American Quarter Horse Assn. We have to pay a membership fee each year to register our horses, and then we get $10 a month in free on line stuff. If you dont use your 10 a month you lose it..... I dont like that part!
There is a VERY nice site that was mainly a Thorobred site that you could acess pedigrees, and it also gave you hypo breedings. It calculated the line breeding percentages on and individual horse. Take a look at this site and maybe UKC could set up something like this. Its really cool. www.dmtc.com/pedigree type in Quarter Back Gambler (one of our horses) and it will give you a 4 or 5 generation ped. you can then go to the bottom of the ped and click on linebreeding and it will take you to how much of each horse he has in his bloodline. It has where you can also put in pictures of the horses in the pedigrees. I have sat for hours researching horses before we bought them.

my views

1. Online litter registration
2. Online registration for zone hunts/world show qualifiers
3. Online event registration for clubs holding events
4. Online show/hunt reports
5. Online apprentice forms when the apprentice completes an event
6. Online point directory for dogs with top 10, purina, and wins towards titles.

These are just my top 6

OK just went to the dmtc.com/pedigree to make sure it was still up and now it is a pay site. It has been a while since I had done any research. you have to pay a yearly fee for it now.

Put the entire MOH and BSJ written tests online. You could also offer practice tests as a poll to see if the majority know the rules..... look at any question where a lot of folks seem to get the question wrong.

Online Services

I do NOT want to see any type of ownership transfers or registration of litters available online.

I would hate to get on line to look up a dog I own only to find I no longer own him/her!

I am very wary of many items on the internet. I think everything available from UKC should be in a read only type of format.

I do believe that hunter's should be allowed to use copies of paperwork to enter hunts or shows for a limited amount of time following the transfer or sale date - say maybe 30 days. I feel this is more secure than allowing transfers or registrations online. Anyone could transfer dogs to themselves online by saying they own a particular dog. There would really be no way to safeguard this other than only doing this type of information via snail mail. Please do NOT allow online tranfers of papers.

Online access to pedigrees for dogs would be great as well as points won to date in a readable format. No transfers allowed from any online printouts.

These are all great ideas! A small fee ($20.00 or ?) would be real resonable.

What kind of time frame are we looking at?

Skinner

As much as I'd like a tool like this, I don't know that it has much value. It would just be interesting!

We could learn about pedigrees, titles, and PAD's. These things already mislead too many people. I think we're better off doing our "research" in the woods!

I'd rather drive 500 miles to hunt with a dog that I was considering breeding to than to research his titles, pedigree, and PAD. That said, I'd sure like to be able to find those behind the barn dogs that aren't in the hands of promoters (that's probably most of the better dogs in this country).

SIMPLE. THEY FIGURED OUT THERE WAS NO WAY TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF IT SO THEY DROPPED IT! LOL.

I MEAN COME ON, IT CANT TAKE THAT LONG TO PULL UP A PEDIGREE, CHANGE A NAME, SAVE IT, PRINT IT, AND STICK IT IN AN ENVELOPE AND DROP IT IN THE MAIL BIN.

BUT IT COSTS $16.

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW LONG IT TAKES ME IN THE PEDIGREE PROGRAM I HAVE TO DO THAT. ABOUT 2 MINUTES.

certify

I work construction, season work. Draw eneploynent in the winter the State has now made it where you may do it online. People are worried about falsifing papers and ect. The State has a box you have to mark certifing that it is the truth pentilized by large fines or inprisonment. UKC could do this also large fines or being BARRED.
