D & O Kennels

Its good to know your female is doing you a good job. She is a good looking female. I enjoyed the video of her. She is a little more active around the tree than Smoke is. He usually gets in one spot and that's where he stays, but either way is good. Its good to know that there are some more in the litter that are doing good. Do you know how many that were in this litter with smoke and your female and how many of them that are doing good. Are you coming to the BBOA National hunt in Batesville, Ms. next weekend. If you are I will look you up. Thanks for keeping me informed on how she is doing. Come back anytime.

Nite Ch."PR"Misty River Ramblin Blue Smoke

Thursday Morning Jeremy and I loaded up Smoke and traveled to Batesville, Ms. to the BBOA National Bluetick Hunt. Thursday night we hunted in the all Blue hunt. Smoke did good. We drew two more good hunters with good dogs. We had a good hunt, but mostly cold tracks ending in den trees.
Friday night things looked better. We drew a good place. We had an English, walker, Bluetick female and Smoke. The man with the English withdrew as soon as we got to the woods. He said he had to go to work early the next morning and left. The other 3 dogs went hunting. Smoke wound up the winner with 650+ points
Saturday Night we drew another good cast in a good spot. We had 2 male blueticks and a female walker and a Black and tan female. smoke led the cast until the last turn loose. Smoke got deep and had not struck. The walker and black and tan got treed Smoke came back and backed them. The tree was slick. The other bluetick got treed separate and had a coon and won the cast. The guy with the other bluetick is a good guy with a good dog, but I can not remember his name. We really enjoyed the weekend.

What an honor Mr. Jack, to receive the Lifetime Award. I didn’t even know this took place. And congratulation on the win with smoke Friday night. I sure enjoyed seeing Smoke go. Wish we would have had better conditions. It was an honor to follow a pack of hounds with you also. Congratulation again.

BBCHA Bluetick Rifle

There was a Guy, Mr. Hatter that called me yesterday and is looking for one of the Rifles that BBCHA had. I cant remember if they were selling them or auctioning them off or what, but I do remember them. They were real neat and beautiful rifles. If anyone who reads this knows where one of the rifles are that might be for sale or anything about them. If you will PM me I will get you and Mr. Hatter togeather. Thanks.

Snake bite is a hard way to end a hunt. From what you said, I would think it was a Cottonmouth, or Copperhead, and not a rattler. Thank goodness. Cottonmouth is bad enough, but them rattlers rots the flesh. You said you gave Smoke benadryl. What kind,Is it for dog or people, and how much do you give? I want to get some to keep in my hunting vest.

Snake bite

Tommy I'm sure it was some kind of water Moccasin. he was in those sloughs a lot. I know it was not a Rattle Snake. Those big boys play for keeps. Chris almost stepped on a big cottonmouth. I borrowed one of the guys machettie and killed it. I told Chris he had learned a new dance(The Crawfish). He liked to have ran over the rest of us backing out of there. I haven't seen any Rattle Snakes yet, so I don't know about them, but it looks like the Moccasins are going to be bad this year. A lot of the time a Rattle Snake will try to get out of your way and a lot of the time unless you just step on him will warn you by rattling that you are getting too close, but those moccasins will come and get you. Tommy you can pick the Benedryl up at any drug store. There is also a shot that you can keep in your truck for a snake bite. I don't know the name of it, but I keep some in my truck. Jerry Wheat gave me some a while back. I don't know how long the shot will keep in you truck. I'm going to check with a vet as soon as possible on this.

D&O Kennels-Thank you for the video of your female, looks like she is doing a good job for you and I can tell you are having a lot of fun with her. Have you put her in any hunts yet. Her Brother Smoke is doing a good job and we are proud of him. He finished to Nite Ch. Last weekend by winning 1st place Friday night at the BBOA National Hunt at Batesville, Ms.. That gave him two 1st and a 2nd to make Nite Ch. I have one of my best females bred to him now. Should be a great cross.

Smoke

Smoke

My neighbor came by about dark tonight and we loaded smoke up and headed to the swamp. Turned him off an ole woods road into a wet bottom. He went in about 250 yrds and struck a cold track and started working it. he moved in about another 300 yrds and treed. We went around on another road and he was only about 100 yrds from us. We walked in to him and he was treed at the edge of a pretty deep drain that runs through the swamp. I could only shine one side of the the big gum tree that he was treed up. There was a lot of high grass and bushes up and down both sides of the drain and it looked like there could have been all kinds of snakes in there so I decided not to try to cross the drain. This is the same area where Smoke got snake bit about a week ago and Chris almost stepped on one. We shined the one side for a few minutes and leashed Smoke and moved on down the swamp. Turned him into another part of the swamp and he went in 400 yrds and struck another cold track and started working it. Worked it in another 300 yrds and we decided we had better catch up some. We rode into about 150 yrds of him and sat an listened. he had worked into the sunken swamp. He trailed toward us to about 75 yrds and then turned and trailed away from us to about 200 yrds and locked up treed. We walked in to him and he was treed up a large oak. I walked to a small clearing where I could see the tree pretty good and when I hit the squaller he looked at me. It had been a while since I had let smoke have one so we let him have this one. Smoke toted the coon back to the 4-wheeler like he usually does and we called it a night.

D & O Kennels

Glad to hear that you are going to put your female in the hunts. She should do well. Keep me posted.

Toby, Thanks for the good kind words on the cross out Of Smoke And Sheba. You lost me when you said you figured out what was wrong. I cant remember what we were talking about the other day. I'm going to have to get back with you on that one. Take care.

D & O Kennels, sounds like your little female, I believe you said her name was Sue, Is firing on all cylinders. Sounds like she is about ready for a ride to town and win some hunts. Keep me posted on her.
