That’s really an odd picture (the bottom) It looks like it’s just sitting out in open space. Nice I must say. And I’m very impressed with what I’m reading about Smoke. How old is he? Looks like he don’t miss much.

Dennis, I have met and talked to Cory several times and you and he came down for a visit when the ole Tramp dog was running. I drew him in a hunt one night. Cory is a great guy, but I have not had the pleasure of meeting the rest of his family. Sounds like those boys are following along in his foot steps and if they do that, we will have some more good hunters with good blueticks for a long time. Good to hear from you Dennis. Sounds like Irene is one of the better kind, but you always got a good one on your leash. Take care.
Bill, I haven't been hearing or seeing any pictures on Ole Dutch. I don't know wheather you are hunting any now or not, or just keeping it quite, but its about time for you to get out and get some pictures and show us what a real hound looks like. good to hear from you Bill and thanks for the good words on Smoke.
Tommy, thanks for the good words on Smoke. He will be two years old in May. Last night after I got in from hunting I looked at the pictures and your right with all that water around him he does look like he is out in space. These dogs can get in some weird predickaments chasing these coons. That tree that he is treeing on was blown over by Katrina or one of the other storms and is laying in another tree across the slough and that's the tree the coon was sitting in. I had treed in this tree once before, but I came in to it from the other side and we didn't have as much water in there then as we had last night and the last time I was by myself and the leaves were on and I didn't find the coon and had to wade the slough to get the dogs. We are suppose to get a lot of rain today and tonight. Take care
Mr. Jack
I really like the picture of Smoke out there treed! Hope everything is going well and you are keeping dry. We have been having highs in the 30's and 40's and our share of precipitation. A lot of the streams are raging pretty good but the coon are moving some. Good luck with the Tramp II and Gin pups they are bred the best.
Happy Hunting,
Scott

R.I.P Gin
I was sitting here in the house late yesterday reading my new Blue Book. It was almost dark. The Black top road that runs by my house is about 100 yrds or so from my front door. I heard some tires squal and a bump. I went to the door and looked out and the car was on down the hyway by them I figured some one had hit a deer. There has been many deer killed by cars right here close to the house. I have hauled off a few laying in my yard the next morning. It wasn't long before I would be going hunting and I figured I would look and see if they had killed the deer or if it had managed to move on when I left the house. I never dreamed of what really happened. My neighbor had just called and he was on his way down to go hunting with me. When he got here he asked me if I had a dog missing out of the pen. I told him not that I knew of as It hadn't been long since I had fed up. He told me that there was one laying in the road. I grabbed my light and took off, and as soon as my light hit it I knew that it was Gin. I brought her to the house and went and looked at her pen and the door was open. I had went out there earlier and sprayed some mosquito spray around the puppies and I decided that the scent was a little to strong for the pups so I turned the air conditioner on to push some of the scent out of there. Now Gin never did like the idea of the air conditioner running, so I think what happen was when I left. I have two latches on the doors a metal latch at the top and a wooden latch at the bottom and I didn't latch the metal latch. The wooden latch is just a turn type latch and she must have either got to pushing at the door or scratching and got the wooden latch to open. I had been working out across the black top a little earlier and I guess she smelled my scent and thought I was over there and started over there and that's when it happened. She would have had a home here the rest of her life and been well taken care of. She will be missed. I know Jeremy will hate it, She was one of his favorites. I haven't told him yet. I will call him in the morning. She had a litter of pups. They are 9 days old, born Easter Sunday. I'll bury Gin and say good bye in the morning. She was a good one.
So sorry for your loss. Brings back some bad memories for me also.
So sorry to hear buddy. It's never easy to lose a dog but a good one like gin is really hard. We'll be thinking about you.

Dang Mr. Jack I am sure sorry to hear that. That is just awful. She was a good one. I had almost half a bag of that powered milk left and if you can use it to help raise your pus then you can have it.

R.I.P Gin
I want to thank all of you guys for your condolences on Gin. She was a good one and she will be missed, although this was a fluke deal the way I lost her. It didn't happen to Gin that way, but we all know that when we turn one loose, we are subject to loose it. I know of several of you and probably most of you that have been in coon dogs very long have went through all this. The pups are doing fine for the time being. I know that this playing nurse maid to a litter of pups is a 24/7 job and it will give you a lot more respect for the mama dog. Thank you so much Mr. case for the offer to lend me your female for the pups, that was mighty nice of you and I may call on you yet. Thank all of you.
Sheba and Sheba 11-Mother and Daughter
Sheba and Sheba 11
Chris and his son Coal came by last night and we loaded up these two and headed to the swamp. The first drop they struck a cold track about 300 yrds in and started working it. They worked it across a cutover and into some flat woods that was full of water. They worked it for a while and about half heartedly treed in there and I knew they were not right. We went in and got them. This was Ole Sheba's first time out in about 5 months and she is really over weight. We moved on up the swamp and turned looe on a branch that runs through the swamp. They went in about 200 yrds and struck a pretty good track and I'll have to admit although both did a good job on this one. Mama showed daughter how it was done. They moved the track on in about 500 yrds and locked up treed. We went around on another road and got to about 150 yrds of them and walked in to them. They were both treed hard. When we got there the were treed up a smaller hard wood tree that went up into a big Turkey pine. I took a few pictures while Chris looked for the coon and found him sitting on a limb about 3/4 up. Neither dog had had a coon so we decided to give them this one. Chris shot it and out it came out, but was not dead and ran up into a briar patch and the dogs caught it in there. I told Chris that he would have to go into the briar patch and get it and he would do better shooting next time. He went in and got it. We leashed the dogs. Sheba 11 was still ready to go, but ole Sheba was about tuckered out so we loaded them up and called it a night, because it was about puppy feeding time.

Smoke
Smoke
Took Smoke out for a run last night. Turned him off an ole woods road into the swamp. He went in 250 yrds and struck a pretty good track, moved it out and down the swamp for about 500 yrds and treed. We rode the 4-wheeler to about 100 yrds of him and walked on in to him. He was treed up a large oak. We shined for a while, but with all the leaves on now, if he don't look you don't find him. I had no doubt that he was there. He did a good job on him. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night. I had to get back and feed the pups.
Sheba and Sheba 11
Chris and his son Coal came by last night and picked up These two and went to the swamp, while I sat home and puppy sit. Chris said they struck the first one and was running it good and started toward the hiway and he had to catch them, loaded them p and went deeper onto the swamp and they struck another one drove it in deeper and locked up treed. They started to the tree and called me and I got to listen to them tree. They were both treed hard. Those two females really have some good mouths on them. They were treed up a large oak and it was so thick around it and so many leaves that they couldn't see anything, but Chris said he was sure they had it. they called it a night and came on in. They had a good hunt.
How that litter of pups doing Mr Jack?

Smoke and Sheba 11
Chris came by about dark and we loaded Smoke and Sheba 11 up and headed to the swamp. I got a call just before we left and they said it was raining hard with high winds about 15 miles away, but we hoped we would have time to tree one. We turned them loose off a pipe line up a branch and they went in about 500 yrds and struck a working track and started moving it out. They moved it on in about 4oo yrds and little Sheba woke every body up with that locating bawl of hers with Smoke right behind her. We went around on an ole dummyline and rode down it a ways and they were treed about 20 yrds off of it. They were both treed hard and we saw the coon from the Dummyline. We walked in to them and I was going to take some pictures, but I had forgot to install the card in the camera, So we just petted the dogs up and came on out. It was beginning to sprinkle when we got to the 4-wheeler, so we decided we had better head for home as we were probably about 6 miles from the house. Just as we had put the 4-wheelers and dogs up and walked to the porch the bottom fell out.
Tommy the pups are doing fine right now. All 5 of them are still making it. I sure hope I can raise them.
