Hunted in a reg. cast out of Gray, Ga. last night. My Lady female and I drew Gr Ch Dust Till Dawn Maggie owned by Dave Thomas and handled by Clyde Murphy, along with Demond Tripp and his Major. All of us including Bobby Carter know each other. Maggie won Queen of Show at our BBCHA Sec. in Roberta earlier this year. My coons didn't cooperate as well as I had wished and Maggie won her a 1st pl. We had a good time the way a cast should-not one issue. Oh, I did have to cross the creek to get the dogs and Dave's Maggie dog pulled me off the log into the creek. Lots of calls and messaging back and forth bout these dogs, the Fall Round Up and the BBCHA Bluebook. The high here was 72 the other day w/ lows in the mid 50's-normally I have to go to Ed's to be in that kind of weather in September. Rejet has been busy with females and he rather likes it. It is nice when the deed can be accomplished without taking forever. Looking forward to seeing and hunting with many of you soon.

Had a great time at BBCHA's Fall Roundup. Based on travel times from various parts of the country Flora is a good location for an event of this size. So many states were well represented by Bluetick men and their dogs. Lots of hand shakes and more than a few "Bear Hugs!" This premier event is different each year. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did and a BIG THANK YOU to everyone involved with making this years Fall Roundup the success it was. Pictures to follow-here and other sites.

2 Ed's

Mead and Mauney at the Fall Roundup. Two Bluetick men who know a good one and have and are feeding some good ones. Ed Mead called from the woods last night. He put Terry Tucker on the phone. During our conversation Terry used a word that will make most of us hunting Jet dogs happy. Jimmie Yawn called about the trip to Michigan. Told him I had to stay home for some work-hurts to miss this one. 50 degrees here this morning-show is nice. These Blue dogs have been treeing some pop ups and some runners. Delivered a few issues of Mountain Music magazine to Larry Kent at the Fall Roundup-1950, 61 and 62. Got to visit with old friends and met some good new ones while in Flora. Dale Parker was unable to make the trip this year but we are planning for next year. Was happy to discover that Scott VandenHeuvel is a fellow Marine. Any other Marines following these Blue dogs out there? Our season opens the 15th and we are ready.

Just got in from a hunt-I got beat. With less than a minute left in a two dog cast and the TW treed, I tree my female. We walk in and they are split. Hey I still got this but we find the TW's coon, still no problem she's on a big tree, find the coon and I got a win. Huge tree-can't find it-times up and hunts over. Shake the guys hand. We walk away, turn and look and you guessed it, coon(s) are looking. So near and yet so far. Rejet is headed North, heck he is there, for a little romance. Ed, Terry, Scott hunt the hair off his--aah Hunt him hard while he is up there-fur! Larry Harvey style. You knock out more in a week up there than I do in a season down here.

Time moves so quickly, especially with our dogs. Those truly special ones leave us far to soon. Jet 7 was one of those special ones to me. Had the pleasure of hunting with him many times during his lifetime. Owned a daughter of his with Bob Kennedy-she was a littermate to Jet 8. Now I'm getting the chance to be involved with a very special one from his last litter. I have personally said thank you to everyone who is making this happen and I now say thank you again here. I do appreciate this opportunity. This not only looks good on paper. It fits in real nice with the natural order with me, this line of dogs and in the woods. After all-we don't hunt on paper-do we.

Went out last night with the mind set to tree a couple of coons with this pup or young dog-at some point you have to quit referring to them as a pup. Left a little late remembering many hunts being out there when the time changes. First drop six minutes go bye before he strikes-then it is on and he is covering some real estate. Had him junk one time on a Bear and that was an "All-nighter"-so my thoughts are not pleasant at this point. 15 minutes and barely within hearing he loads up right. So now I am smiling and high stepping like a 20 mile force march. Took a few minutes to find the coon-trying to shake the vine, squall and look all at the same time. After a good little walk, I load him up and drive to another spot. I let him out without the leash just to see if he would go hunting. By the time the doors are locked, back track is set and I look at the time he opens and makes it sound like it is hot. The direction of this track tells me it is a coon that takes them cross the creek to the next county. Sure enough when I get to him he is treed on a leaning tree over the creek. This time the coon is in the tree that his tree leans into. In fact both coons were at the top of the trees. Which means they tried to get just as far as they could from that loud mouth jet that ran them up there!

Sounds like you had a fun night and that dog is doing very well for you. Ed's going to be wanting him back up there. Hope and Jr were bred yesterday and today.

In honor of the upcoming 238th birthday of the United States Marine Corps and Veterans Day May Flower answered the call of duty last night. With two plus split trees and 600 plus points you should walk away with a yellow strip of paper down here. She did and added another Night Champion win in the process. It has taken awhile to get back to form after her last litter. She would be embarrassed to know I mentioned this on here. In Ed's words-now that she has her school girl figure back she is clicking again. We were in a cast with the dog who got the win on the last hunt she was in. That time they split at the end of the hunt and we found his coon. I did not see her coon(s) until after we stepped out in the field when the hunt was over. Sick feeling to know I could not find either one. The coon cooperated and so did the dog last night. John wish I could have been up there with you guys-that is how you say it? Not "use" guys. Getting a little past prime time to head North for me. It is cold enough here. In fact I would say based on last night-it is about perfect.

Dual Gr Ch Blue Bio May Flower

In the last eight days Flower decided to get with the program. No record but three night champion wins was just what she needed and just what she got. All of you who hunt females know what it is like with heat cycles, raising pups and then getting them back in shape to tree coons and win hunts. Our coon season came in and I guess knocking a few out to her did some good. She had a lot of split trees in these hunts of late and seemed real determined to tree her coons, regardless of what the rest of the cast did. With leaves coming off the trees their slicks and her having the meat made all the difference. Glad to hang this title on her and move on to some of these others who are pushing hard for their own recognition.
