To be fair, I was wrong about the breeding of that young dog I had that turned mean. Maybe he had some Fireball blood in him, but his sire and dam are listed below. Timber Chopper Kennels still has a picture I sent them of him treeing a coon on his own at 16 months old. The forum won't let me post a picture or I would, but the caption from their website reads the following: 'PR' Nunley's Indiana Red Albert - Owned by Keith Nunley, Albany, IN
Al is a Timber Choppin Dan X Timber Chopper Sweet Sadie pup. This is a picture of Al treeing at 16 months. Best "looking" dog, I ever had. Built tall, long, and fast. He just turned to the point where he whipped one, so thought he had to whip them all. Shame!

If this is him then he was double Fireball. However, I went with him myself and never seen a thing like that from him, himself. There is still some frozen semen from Dan out there. Figured in a few years might try a bit of it myself but that will probably be a while.

I never meant to put any dog down or blame a problem on the Dan dog... not what I meant at all. The blame was on my dog and mine alone. I could have kept the "Al" dog around and tried to correct the problem, but I don't have patience for that stuff, right or wrong. Just my opinon of something that I wouldn't put up with in a dog. I never wanted to pleasure hunt or competition hunt where I had a problem dog. Just not my idea of what the sport is about. I have had dogs eaten on and it's not fun, so I wasn't going to have one that would do it. Any and all of the other fireball dogs that we had were not like that at all. That is part of what I liked about the ones we had.

Enough about that, I will quit wasting people's time talking about the history of my dogs. Thanks for the thread guys! It is awesome for me to see some info on what I used to have and the good dogs that you guys are running out there now. Hopefully, one day soon, I can get back in the mix and have a dog of my own, to take my sons to the woods. Good hunting to you all!

Steve, think Josh & I are fixing to use some Seman off Dan Josh stop by on the way to work & left his 6 Gen. pedigree for me to look at.

Ones like that for me get culled. Like you I'm not going to have something trying to chew others up. I don't go coonhunting to repair my hound from getting chewed up from another hound, now a coon that's just fine.

I enjoy talking with different ones who had personal experience with these hounds. Post all ya want! The more I know the better far as I'm concerned.

Now you'll know where to look though if you decide to get back in. There's still several of us out there keeping this line going. Hopefully, there even more in the next few years from some of these newer crosses.

Hey man, to me looks like that would work nice. Looks like doubling up on the World Champ couldn't help but be nice. Especially, with the way sister has been producing so far.

Dan and Gunner

Here is a picture, probably 1997 or so, of our Dan dog (left) along with Nite Champion PR Fireball's Pup Gunner (right). This was one of the biggest coons we ever killed. It was never proven, but we think that Dan might have been a pup from the only litter or two that Melton had from his Fireball dog that got poisoned in one of the hunts. I can't remember that dog's name, but some of you probably remember him losing a really good one that was poisoned. Gunner, a direct son of Fireball and a night champion female named Cindy that my dad owned, would have been 8 or 9 years old here.

Well Keith! I sure would like to see you get back into the sport I know there are some great people out there that would help you out in finding a good red dog! You and your dad and that old fire ball line of dogs you guys hunted is the only way I know anything about coon hunting ! I know my trips to Muncie Ind. would be more often ....

Two more pics. Top one is Dan (left) Gunner (right), both Fireball bred, with Gunner being a direct son. Gotta love that old white muzzle that produced some of the best locates and treeing that a man could hear from a dog. Bottom picture is the Dan dog with my late father, Albert Nunley. Dan was the loudest and hardest hunting dog we had. He died of cancer just after the bottom picture was taken.

I think that was Fireball Junior. Me and Preston was talking about him the other day. Joe said he was super nice about the best he ever had. To bad he got killed. Did you ever have any pups out of Dan? You can sure tell where he came from.

Never had any pups out of him. A shame, but we didn't competition hunt much, and outside of the Hub City Club in Union City, Indiana, not too many people knew about the dog. Dad didn't have the money/time to do it with me playing 3 sports in high school. People say this all of the time, but Dan "could have been" a real good competition dog". I don't operate on "could have beens" though, so he was what he was at our house, a real good coon dog. There aren't too many people looking to breed to those without the papers that title them nite champion or grand nite champion.

Not to bore anybody reading, but here is a short story about these two Fireball bred dogs in the pictures. As a teenager, generally, when the dogs treed, I grabbed the gun and made a bee line to the tree. With these two, it only took a nice locate, and I was reaching in the back seat for the rifle, haha. The point was to kill coon, right? One night, as I grabbed the gun and headed that way, my dad stopped me after both these dogs treed a few hundred yards in the woods. It only took them about 3 minutes to do so. He stopped me, and I said "what are you doin?" He said, "This is why I bought these dogs, so just stop and listen to 'em for a minute." We stood there, by the truck and listened to those two Fireball dogs tree, like good music to the ear, for 10 minutes plus (we could have stood there for an hour and they wouldn't have left the tree, haha (seemed like a half an hour to a 16 year old kid), and then finally we went in and killed that coon. Looking back, that night with these two dogs and my dad helped me appreciate what it meant to have a couple of really nice hounds.

Still haven't been out hunting lately......

Sure wish I could do more of that than I have here lately. I've been laid up completely for the last two days. Can barely feel my right arm and got tingling in my left arm and left leg. I had a boy getting his face pounded in, in a corner on the concrete at school. So I had to break up the fight which meant picking up one 180 and another 200 lb. boy, at the same time, to keep the one on the ground from getting seriously hurt. The one that was getting wooped was in a position so that one hit in the nose would have likely killed him, since his face had no give from being on the concrete. Going in for an MRI wed. I hope I can just go back to school Mon. and get things wrapped up for the Sem. Time will tell sure can't wait, to get my surgery, to feel again and not be in such killer pain that the hydrocodones and muscle relaxers won't even touch it. I'm literaly sick at my stomach from the pain and morphine is about the only thing I've found that would kick what I'm hurting like. Sure hope to get back in the woods soon.

Sure nice to have some old trustworthy hounds.

I like handling pups and training them but every now and then it's nice to go just tree some coon and enjoy the old dogs. Boy do I like hearing them hounds go and of course winning some hunts along the way isn't to bad either.

My buddies wife just had a rod inserted in her back. I didnt get all the details on how they do it but then again I didnt want to. She is doing alot better and doesnt have the pain she had. I hope they can fix you up. We missed out on another house. It seems if they are in a certain price range they are sold right away. Theres been some discussion that you cant have a pleasure dog and competition dog all in one. Now you have very good dogs that I would consider both pleasure and competition. I know your dogs hunt as wide as needed. The dogs I am hunting now go as far as needed to tree whether its 10 acres or 500 acres. They will be gone as long as it is needed to find and tree a coon. Maybe most wouldnt like this type but thats just the way the dogs Ive hunted always were and I consider these pleasure hunting dogs. I plan on hitting the hunts and shows with my pleasure hunting dogs. Hope to see you at the hunt next spring. Say hi to your better half for me. And did you get your beagle started on rabbits yet? Take care.

Still hurting from the fight. Going to try to go back to teaching tommorrow. I'll see if I can make it all day. I think if they fix the joint below where the issues were before I'll be fine. Hopefully, some shots in my neck joint will get me to that point. Good luck on your house hunting. Now you're seeing some of what I was dealing with until we got in our home. Sure wish I didn't have all this pain so I could hit the woods more. Stinks I'm sitting here with plenty of nice hounds and woods all around. Soon I'll get this fixed for the time being though and I'll be at it again.

Competition/Pleasure hounds: I think to some competition means run past coons, slick tree, etc... To me it means out hussle everything in the woods, find the coon, strike when you first smell it, get it lined out, give a good solid locate, and tree till you get there with a coon in it. How is that not fun to hunt?
It don't matter if it's competition or pleasure. To me about the only people who wouldn't like that would be ones who want something that hunts like a cur. If that's what ya like to me then get a cur, it won't hurt my feelings.

But me I win plenty, have won some pretty big hunts, and beat some hounds that have won real big in the big hunts, with the same hounds that I have fun hunting during the week. Now down here, with our thin coons, they go further than I prefer at times but they find the coons and to me that's what I want wether with all the pain I have I feel like it or not.

To me coonhunting is about trailing and treeing coons not watching my dog at my feet, with people saying that sure is a pretty dog. People that say that about mine don't for long when we hit the woods. People will say that about mine when I show them but when we turn them loose and are hunting they say things like that hound is for real, I've never seen a redbone hunt that hard, far, trail that fast, stick to a tree like that, etc.. In other words their hunting ability overshadows their looks by far.
