HUNT

We had storms coming in last night but Drake and myself loaded up and cut them loose. It just started to spit rain when we cut loose. We cut Rock and Cotton. Rock is a little bit rusty but we are going to get him right. Cotton got deep in a hurry and Rock made a big circle and came out in a field. I caught him about the time Cotton struck a bad track. Rock went to her but didn't open much on the track. Rock shot in deeper and fell treed. Cotton kept working her track but we accidently walked right on top of her going to Rock. She headed on towards Rock and opened a few times but wouldn't tree. UH OH!! I knew something was up and soon seen that fat possum up a bay tree. Me and Rock had another talk and hopefully we can come to an agreement. Once I get him tuned up, hopefully we can cut down on this possum treeing. On a positive note, Rock almost always has the meat of some kind!!LOL Thunder and lightening got real close to us and I got a message on my phone about a tornado warning about 30 miles away from us, so we had to call it a night. Hunt

Drake and myself went for a while tonite. First drop we cut Cotton and Rock. Cotto struck followed by Rock. They worked a track about 350 yds and Cotton peeled up the hill and fell treed. Rock came in and backed her. Den tree. Cut loose again. They were gone for about 15 minutes and I checked the Garmin and they were 1.08 mile down the bottom. We drove within 400 yds and heard Rock load up. Cotton was hesitant but backed him. Slick tree. We cut again and they were 900 yds over in a big holler. We moved up the road and they were trailing. Cotton blowed up on a tree with Rock almost the same time. They had large coon. We cut loose down the creek and they struck quick. That ole coon left here and ended up in a fresh cutover in a logjam. We called it a night. Y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren

Darren I told Rob to spend the money I'm going to keep ole Stroker. he finally treed one tonight.. he has a few areas that needs working on but think he just might make.

Mickey I'm glad a hard hunter like you got him. I think he will be nice with a lot of shoe leather.

Hunted for a while tonight. First drop we cut Rock and BB. They went nearly a mile and we drove around and found them treed with the meat. Rock is steady getting back into shape. Lookin better every night. Next drop I cut Cotton alone. She struck in at about 200 yds and trailed up a creek. She soon loaded up and had meat. We rolled it out to her. Got a late start and called it a night y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren.

ROAD KILL

Heck man, we got to get one any way we can!!! Does it count if I laid a drag and he treed it?? LOL

Ole Rock is coming on around for me now. He is getting DEEP and hunting like he was before. He went nearly a mile across the bottom and we drove around and found him treed. The bottom is hunted to death and coons are few and far between. When you think you got one that will get deep if necessary, just come and turn loose down here in this swamp. The ones that you get after here are extremely smart or just visitors!!

Ole Cotton continues to be very consistent and still impresses me on a lot of nights. She got deep in the hills last night and made short work of the track she struck. Ole coon was laid up I think as it was nearly 9 o'clock before I cut her loose.

GO UP TO THE MARKUM HOUSE AND HUNT YOU GOT THE KEY. IT AIN'T BEEN HUNTING ANY SINCE ME AND YOU WENT IN THERE. ITS PLENTY OF COONS IN THERE. I GUESS THAT COON WILL COUNT IF YOU LAID A DRAG 1/2 MILE OR SO. LOL

Thanks Trent, I definitely will head up that way. I might ride up there during the daylight to check out the lay of the land. It will be a good place to hunt some of these young dogs and pups. Close to the house too. I'm headed to Tuscaloosa tonight to hunt with Rick. He bought a gyp last week and says she is pretty nice. Give me a holler this weekend. Drake is getting him a new pup this week. It is a female out of Jobe x Magic. She is a mate to my male. Lots of good blood here at the kennel. Hopefullly some of that will transfer to the woods and make coondogs!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Made a few drops last night. COLD again around here!! First drop we cut Cotton and Matt Smith's Sadie gyp. Sadie struck followed by Cotton. They went separate ways but Sadie ended up circling around and meeting up with Cotton. Cotton soon loaded up and Sadie treed with her. Had the meat. Next drop we cut Rock and Rickett. rickett struck a dillar I think and Rock skipped out quick. Rickett ended up quiting it and moving on down the bottom. Rickett fell treed and had a coon. Rock was 900 yds across bottom. We cut Cotton , Sadie and Rickett loose again and they struck a good track that ended up in an underground spring. I drove around and called Rock out and called it a night. Y'all keep'em lookin' Up!! Darren

HUNT

Been having to run service at work and my butt sure was draggin last night. I dragged myself out of that recliner and put on my boots and light and loaded up the dogs. First drop Drake and myself cut Rock loose. He stayed gone for a long while and I checked the Garmin. He was over 1000yds and had not opened. We eventually walked around an old road and got closer to him. I called him out and we regrouped. We cut Cotton loose up a little creek bottom and she left out up the creek. Same scenario as 1st drop. Complete silence. I checked the Garmin and she was 775 yds up the bottom. I drove around and got within 250 yds and heard her open. It sure wasn't a good track and she worked her way on the track up the bottom towards us. She trailed about 200 yds to our left and finally loaded up treed. We got to the tree and she was on a smaller tree that ran right into a huge Den tree. We gathered her up and called it a night. Coons didn't stir at all here and I should have stayed in that recliner!! NAW I can't do that, I gotta try to train one of these sorry potlickers!!

Went down to hunt with Rick Jordan last night. We had a single and a double and rolled a couple coons out. Rick has a new gyp and man is she loud. When Rick finishes knocking the rust off her she will sure enough be a nice gyp. Rock ended up getting out of pocket and me and Drake walked forever and finally caught him up. Used up a lot of hunting time. We called it a night and got some breakfast at huddle house. Got in at about 2 am. Y'all keep'em lookin' up. Darren

Hunt

Well I ended up with a stomach virus yesterday and worked til about 3:30 and that's about all I could take. Didn't hunt last night as it would've been cold having to pull down the britches in the woods!!LOL Working today but sure ain't 100 percent. Gatorade is about all I could keep down at all yesterday. Guess I will have to try to eat shortly and see if it will stay with me.

Looking forward to getting back in the woods tonight. I got Major back off trial. A nice gentleman in south Alabama tried him and said he treed a couple coons but didn't hunt alone. He has hunted for me alone so I will hunt him all alone the next few weeks and try to find the problem. He will be back up for sale once I feel him out and see how well he hunts alone. HUNT

Got back in the woods last night. There was supposed to be a guy coming to hunt with Drake and Myself but called and cancelled at the last minute. We loaded up dogs and headed out. First drop I cut Major alone. He left out hard and hunted out good. He went 495 yds and made a left and ended up circling back and checking in with us. He hunted about 45 minutes alone but never got struck. I put him in a place where there are no coons to see how well he wanted to hunt alone. Next drop we cut Rock down one holler and cut Major down the other holler. They were gone for a long time and I heard Rock open deep. I looked at the Garmin and Major headed to him. We drove around and they just bumped around on a cold track and we finally just walked in and caught them up. It was about 10 o'clock by now and we cut Cotton loose alone in the hills. She went 150 yds down into a holler and hit a spring branch that runs down between the hills. She followed the branch and opened about 475 yds down the holler. We pulled on down the road and stopped just in time to hear her give out two huge dying bawls and turn it over. We got to her and it was a huge beach tree with holes all in it. We beat on it but could never get the coon to look. We called it a night and gone hit it again tonight. Hopefully coons will stir better. Just couldn't get anything going last night at all. Hunt

Hunted major Friday night. 1st drop he left out and struck in at 190 yds. He worked a track about 200 yds and located and treed. Got to the tree and had a nest. Next drop I cut him alone again. Struck in at 230 yds and located quick. Got down and opened several times on the ground and then loaded up right. Got there and it was slick. Next drop I cut Major and Cotton. They struck a good track and ran it hard for 300 yds. Both dogs loaded up and had a den tree. Cut both loose again and Major struck followed by Cotton. They worked a coon down the bottom and into the hills. Cotton loaded up almost simultaneously with Major. 500 yds and had meat. Called it a night. Y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren
