HUNT

Hunted by myself last night in the rain and sleet. I hunted Cotton alone the first drop. She has been in heat and I'm glad to have her back in action. She struck in at about 350 yds and started to work a bad track. She went about 375 more yards and loaded up treed. I made my way in to her and seen it was a large den tree. There was a woodpecker flying around mad as a hornet. Either that ole coon put him out of the den or Cotton has done started treeing woodpeckers!!LOL Next drop I cut her alone again and she went about 175 yds and just fell treed. Treed on a leaning tree and coon was in the huge tree it ran into at the top. Sleet and snow are falling by now and I cut Cotton and Blade loose. Blade didn't hunt but I made it REALLY unpleasant to be at the truck. He finally left out and I looked at the Garmin he was 700 yards so he got the message. Cotton got deep and opened a few times but never really got anything going. I finally walked in and caught her. Had to drive around to get Blade and called it a night. Roads are a little slick this morning but could be worse. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Didn't hunt last night. Snowing like crazy. I didn't mind braving the elements but didn't want to get stranded in the bottom somewhere with the ice and snow. I am going to hit it tonight as our weather is supposed to break. Looking forward to getting Cotton out again. We have a UKC hunt Friday night at Hamilton , AL. Come join us if you can!! HUNT

Hunted last night. We took Cotton, BB, Blade and Sadie Mae owned by Matt Smith. First drop we cut Cotton and Sadie in the bottom. Sadie opened a couple times but Cotton was quiet. I soon heard Cotton all way down the bottom struck. She was about 500 yds. She opened just a few more times and let out her screaming dying bawl locate and let in to hammering the tree. We drove around the bottom to her and could hear Sadie treeing with her. Got to the tree and soon found her coon. We petted them up and moved to a different spot. We cut all 4 dogs at the next drop. Blade didn't hunt well but soon left the truck. BB , Sadie and Cotton struck in that order. The bottom was flooded and they were working the track in alot of water. BB soon located and treed. Sadie was there close but wasn't treeing well. We got to the tree and Cotton came in and treed with BB. No coon seen. They just missed him in all the water. Next Drop we cut Cotton , BB, and Sadie. BB struck first, followed by Sadie then Cotton. They ran the fire out of the coon and Cotton loaded up quickly backed by BB and Sadie. We got to the tree and the bottom was flooded out. They had the coon and we rolled him to Sadie. We let BB and Cotton get a taste and called it a night. We got a UKC hunt tonight at Hamilton, Al at the Marion County Sportsmans Club. Valentines Day!! There will be some guys in the doghouse with ole blue tonight including ME!!LOL Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

MAJOR AND SUGAR RAY

HUNTED LAST NITE TURNED LOOSE AND MAJOR LEFT HARD WITH RAY ON HIS HEELS. THEY GOT ABOUT 400 YARDS SETTLED DOWN AND WENT TO HUNTING. MAJOR STRUCK WITH RAY RIGHT THERE. THEY MOVED THE TRACK GOOD UNTIL THEY GOT IN WATER ABOUT 45 MINUTES LATER THEY WORKED IT ALL OUT AND TREED IN A BIG BEECH TREE WITH A HOLE ABOUT 30 FOOT UP. HAD TO GET ON MAJOR FOR CHEWING A LITTLE BIT. WE WOULD LIKED TO HAVE THE MEAT OUT ON A LIMB BUT ALL AND ALL IT WAS A GOOD NIGHT.

Southern blue hardwood stroker

Darren I hate to but I'm gonna have to let ole stroker go due to a change in my work schedule goin back to third shift and leaves little to no time for me to give him the time he deserves in the woods. I'm not gonna just let one with his potential set in the pen so he's up for sale if any ones interested he's gonna make a real nice one just needs to be in the woods. Asking 800 for him. Hunt

Hunts Cotton in her first ntch cast last night. We had 2 dens as it was raining and a full moon soon after it quit. Cotton skipped the country on me. A male in the cast kept messing with her so she got gone.

Rob I hate you selling Stroker. He will make someone a good one.

Trent I like them hard going type hounds. If he has ate my feed long you can count on him going hunting. Just bought back a hard going independent little dog I sold last year. I regretted selling him and got a chance buy him back. He has a UKC first and will be in the hunts soon. PR Southern Blue Grind Rock is back at home. Darren.

DOGS

Well I thinned down on some dogs Saturday. I carried Dixie back to Rick Marcus , dropped off Blade to Terry Tibbs to work him in the coon pen for a few weeks, and dropped off Uchtman's Blue Lady to Charles Dawson. Major is in Decatur with Tent Widner. I am going to put it on Cotton, Rock and BB for a few weeks as well as getting my Jobe x Magic pup in the woods a few times.I had a nice conversation with my buddy Jason Seal Friday evening. Jason has a nice male in NtChGrCh Pr Drip's So. Blue Duece. Duece is throwing some nice pups with limited breeding. I am breeding a gyp from Duece to Logan this week. Should be a nice cross. I wish Jason was closer to me and I would have already taken advantage of Duece!! Hope all is well with you fellow bluetickers. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Hunt.
Made a couple drops tonight. First drop we cut Rock and Sadie ( Matt Smiths gyp). Rock went 190 yds and struck. Sadie put in with him and they trailed about 200 yds and Rock loaded up treed. Sadie treed pretty good with him and they had the meat.

Next drop we cut Cotton and my Jobe pup Cyclone loose. Cotton struck a bad track and ended up trailing deep and crossing yellow creek. CY went every step and crossed the creek. He is almost 6 mths old. I ended up catching her coming towards the paved road down the creek. We regrouped and cut Cotton ,Rock, and Sadie loose. Cotton struck in at about 300 yds and opened a few times and fell treed. Rock and Sadie came in and backed her and she had the meat. Called it a night and about to put up the dogs. Y'all keep'em lookin up!!! Darren

Matt I think she will make a good one. She is as pretty as any bluetick gyp I've seen. I'm glad to have Rock back here at the kennel. He is a coon treeing rascal. Just don't find that extra gear he and Cotton have to offer. We gone stay on them. Darren

Thanks Trent. I have debated on selling him but he has done some really nice work for me. Since I have bought Rock back I can't do him the justice he deserves. I have got to thin down and make room for all these pups I've got coming up. Major isn't perfect but someone will get a nice little coon treeing hound. I will show him anyway you want to see him go except with a mean dog. Major is a perfect gentleman in the kennel, the box, and in the woods.
Price is $1500.

HUNT

We hunted for a while last night. We got a late start and got turned loose about 8:30 pm. First drop we cut BB and Rock. BB struck and Rock followed. It was a bad track and they worked it for a good ways. They were in at 500 yds and hushed for a few minutes. Rock loaded up and BB backed him quick. Walked in to them and they had a greasy possum. Must have came across him and that is Rock's main weakness. I thrashed them and we regrouped. I cut Cotton and my 6 mth old pup Cy in the bottom. Cotton left hard and ole Cy did his best to stay up. Cotton was soon over 800 yds and Cy ended up coming out. I looked at my Garmin and Cotton was completely across the bottom. We drove around and got within 400 yds of her and she was treed solid. We left out to her and she was across Yellow Creek. We got across and she had her coon. It was after 11:30 so we called it a night. Coons didn't seem to stir here or they had stirred early. Drake and me will try it again tonight and see what we can get done. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!!
