Smoke

We got home about 9am and he acted much better. he got out of the box on his own, was walkin better, and ate some food. I think hes going to be fine just sore for a while. It was a scary deal.

Hope he makes a full recovery . I will be praying for him. Barley went on his first hunt last night . He was a little nervous , It was his first to hunt with other dogs also but he did good and we are proud of him . He treed on a brush pile with 4 kittens in it . So now we go to the zone championship next weekend . Keep us posted on Smoke.

Hope Smoke recovers fully. That is two scares that you have had at big hunts. Sounded like that tree fell on him at Bluetick Days and now this.

Thanks everybody.
Checked Smoke again this morning before work and he is still just laying full out on his right side. Not moving at all. He is wagging his tail when I went in his pen but won't get up. probably take him back to the vet today. Can't see that he has any swelling in his body but he is not himself. Giveing him Ibeprofin for now. Just have to wait and see. Last night you could tell he is out of it. Acts like he is in a daze. Might still be in shock. The vet told Timmy Saturday night that his lungs sounded rough but I can't tell that his breathing is labored at all. Hope for the best and wait.

Roy, I sure hate it about Smoke. I hope he heals up right and gets back to his old self. It doesn't look like I'll get to see him go on this trip, but I'll still come down and visit with you and Tim before I leave here and I will make a special trip back when ole Smoke is back on his feet and ready to go.

In getting Smoke healed up. Hopefully he'll be up & going soon. We've got some more "head to head" hunts to look forward to!!! May get beat, but is always fun to hunt against a top hound & handler. Take care, Ron.

Smoke

Sherrie and the Grand-Sons had Smoke out this morning walking him and he finally took a crap and seemed to be alot better.
She gave him another ibeprofin and half an hour later he treed the cat and she said he was cuttin it down.
Sherrie said he still is not tracking right on his front legs and we are trying to find a chiorpracter(sp) to adjust him.
Big improvement this morning and a relief to us.

Thanks every one for the calls and PMs. He should be back in the saddle before long.

Good to hear he is doing better Roy. Only thing I would add is give him half an aspirin instead of the ibuprofen. The ibuprofen is hard on their liver. I used to work for a vet and I remember him telling me this. Aspirin does a better job on inflammation as well. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Well, last night when I got home Smoke is doing good. He looks alert and and more like his old self. Maybe alittle stove up yet but alot better. Doesn't show alot of energy but after a fall like that I can't blame him. I would say in a day or two he will be back at it.

Thanks Jake for the tip about the aspirin.

I think we will give him a run this weekend and see after a drop how he is doing.

Ron, any hunt with you and Cub is a blast, maybe one day we can take just a plain ole pleasure hunt and not just compete against each other. You are armed with some awsome dog power and it has been an honor to hunt with guy's of yours and Cub's intergerity. Thanks for your friendship.

That's good news!

Smoke will play his part of our bloodlines future reproduction. It's in the blood but we don't need to lose any of the special ones we hunt today. I am relieved he is improving.

Smoke

Had a slight relapse. Had to take him to the vet again last night. He was running 105deg temp and the vet said his white blood cell count was up to 28,000 which should have been around 17,000 . Gave him some shots and have him on antibiotics for 30 days. He should be fine. Still looks like the tail end of hard times.

2009 BBOA National Queen of Hunt GrChGrNtCh Big Time Spankin Blue Wendy is in heat and should breed this weekend. These pups will be out of two BBOA National King and Queen. Wendy 2009 X Smoke 2012. Ought to be, get in the dark and get treed, coon dogs from this cross.

Started to get the pics for you yesterday but Sherrie had the camera card and I couldn't find it. Will try again tonight.

Wendy is standing, so when the time is right she has a date with Smoke.

Smoke still is not 100%, still stiff but doing better. He should be going strong by next weekend.

Timmy has been hunting Robin and some pups. Tracking is getting pretty tuff here with no rain. The pups are doing good considering the dry conditions.

Mr. Clifton,I hated to hear about Smokes injury.Sounds like he is recovering for you fellas though and that is the main thing.I've heard that he is a pretty special hound and It's good to hear he's gonna be alright with a little more time.Good luck with him,I've heard from a few that he is a very nice dog.
