HUNT

Thank goodness Cotton is about out of heat. I will get to hunt her this weekend. We went for a little while last night with Jason Myers and his young dog Kink, Matt Smith and his young gyp Sadie, I had Major and Drake had BB. Dogs looked like they were mentally challenged last night. I wonder what goes thru their mind sometimes. First drop we cut 4 dogs. BB came to truck , Matt's gyp and Jason's male hunted around us and Major went down a holler. In about 7 or 8 minutes Major came back up the hill. We recut on other side of road. BB and Major left hard and came out on gravel road. They would have made the road runner proud!! Drove around and caught them up. We recut and dogs struck fairly quick. BB and Major went right and Kink and Sadie opened out in front of us. Kink kept locating around but didn't settle. BB came in and locked down. Wasn't long til all dogs were there treeing. No coon seen. We recut and Major struck something wrong. BB put in but quit pretty quick. Major crossed the road but heard the truck and quit it too. We called it a night. Myers' pup is only 8 mths old and Matt's gyp is about 15 mths but has had limited hunting. The two I had needed a bullet last night. I turned Major loose on a deer on the way home and he lit it up and then got lit up!! Maybe I got his attention. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up! Darren

Sounds like a challeging night. I know you will get it all under control for sure.
We have all this below zero temps and 10+ inches of snow so looks like February is out for hunting. Oh well time to fatten up the dogs and myself.

EVERYONE HAS NIGHTS LIKE THAT. MAYBE EVERYTHING WILL GET BETTER. DIXIE STILL LOOKS THE SAME MAYBE IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE SHE COMES AND VISITS WITH OLE' LOGAN.

Hunts

It will get better. Been hearing the same thing out of lots of hunters in our area. Huge swings in the weather, the rut and hunting pressure all combined in my hunting area has made it hard to even strike a track. Ole Cotton will get deep and find me one. She will get back on track next week after being in heat. She is the most consistent dog I own. I ain't hunted on feeders or corn piles either so they gotta get gone to find one. I am about to fill up a feeder or two to hunt Blade around. He made me mad and I stood him up for the past 3 weeks. We will see about his temperament next week as well. Y'all keep'em lookin up. Old shine is as consistant as they get. She is my go to dog when I am struggling to tree a coon. She just came out of heat a week ago. Must run in the genes. lol

Keep after them. The way you guys hunt and put time in the timber is going to pay off. You will hit the jackpot and discover that special hound we all look for, the hound has to have a little extra in several departments. But they have to be pounded in the timber, and you guys do that as hard as anyone, keep at it....Gerald

Everett I'm still looking for that near perfect male. Hopefully I've got some nice prospects here including Southern Blue Mad-Dog Maniac.

GCBLUES I will tell the good and the bad. I sure ain't kennel blind and hunt hard to know strength and weakness in my hounds. Bluetick breed will be better when we all can work together and also admit ole fuzzy tied out there in the yard ain't the perfect specimen. Lol

Just spoke with Rob. Sounds like Ray is starting to break off and do his own thing. If he turns out to be as deaf to the other dogs like Logan and Cami he should turn out to be a nice one.

NtCh PR Bama Blue Spark Plug

Billy Trice finished Plug to NtCh last night at Glenn Allen. Plug is a littermate brother to Cotton out of Logan x Belle. I hunted BB in NtCh cast and got scratched for treeing a possum along with a walker male. The walker gyp left in cast missed a coon and got minused so we had no cast winner. Congrats to Billy and Plug. Darren
