Went to load Kitty up tonight and of course...

She's in heat. Well worked out well for the World Hunt timing but now I won't be hitting any hunts for a bit. She will be having some little ones soon however. I like to wait between litters but with her being as old as she is I'm not sure I've got the time so. The plan at this point is to breed her to her 1st. cousin the NtCh. (with wins toward Gr.) Rock hound that Jayroe has. This will put GrNtCh. Rocky in there 4 times once as the great grandad, NtCh.Doc twice, GrNtCh. Fiddle twice, the old GrNtCh. Yellow River cross three times, GrNtCh. Hazel once and GrNtCh. Twister once. For a total of 6 shots of Fireball! from some of the nicest crosses on that blood. The trip will also allow me to finally drop of the last of her pups from the last litter with Dozer.

Did you ever think about a future cross to her and the Blaze dog Jeff Young had . I know he has semen stored on him. Blaze was out of Fiddle and Rocky . That would put Fireball on the 3 generation ped. maybe after this litter ? talk about reproducers.

What I would really like to do is breed Daisy to Twister eventually again get a female and breed to Blaze however I'm sure not saying that Kitty and Blaze is out of the question. Is the semen from Blaze in the pellets or straws?

It'll be a long weekend for me but will also be quite a trip. I plan to leave here early, early Fri. morning should make it out there around 9 or 10 Fri. evening. If you have a pretty good plot of woods I'll bring Daisy. She needs plenty of room to roam though. I can normally keep her from getting to crazy far now though. I'd bring the Twister pup but I am real particular about where he gets turned loose and only hunt him in pretty controlled situations, young as he is. I would bring Holly out of Bo and Daisy but she's in heat too. Figured I'll try to breed Kitty Fri. night Sat. morning and afternoon and then head back so I could be back teaching on Mon.

He's the deal with Kitty about the only thing bad about her is that she can outrun her mouth on a normal night out past about a mile she gets harder to tell what she is doing. I would like to put another quarter to three quarters of sound to her and she'd be tough. She doesn't try to outrun everything in the woods and sure doesn't mind backing another hound but she likes to get by herself when she can and will go until she hits one. This puts her out a ways at times. This is one of reasons I bred her to my Dozer hound he was super loud until he got sick from something and lost his voice comepletely for a while. There again hoping to get volume among other things from Rock. I really think this will make a super nice cross, nevermind everything being all titled night hunt hounds in the PED.

Well I thought I was catching her coming in and apparently she was going out.

I've been busy with my farm and haven't been hunting Kitty much at all as of late. So I thought she was coming in when I caught her in heat the other day but apparently she was already going back out. O well guess I'll be driving out to Rock next time she's in. On my females a litter will throw them off for about the amount of time they had the pups in them. Apparently, with Kitty it only throws her off a few weeks. Now I know for next time though.

Picking up

the new dog Friday. I guess he is a little rusty on coon . But a couple nites might get the rust off. Hope so anyway. They bearhunted him this summer. Ill have him out Friday nite and will see how that goes. Headed out tonite about a hour north of here. I should stick around closer where there are fewer bears but there are alot less roads and traffic north of here. If I can keep the dogs off bear Ill do ok. Gonna try and get pics. (try) Me and cameras dont seem to go together at all. Too many options and different settings. Who knows maybe that 50 pounder will get treed tonite.

Ya I need to get me a new camera.

The one I've got is so old and slow if I try to get a pic of my hounds barking about the time I push the button is when they are closing thier mouths. Right now my camera is so old that honestly the phone I have takes them just as good. I can borrow my wifes but she pretty particular about when I can use it.

went out

last nite. 4 drops no barks on 1st 3. 4th drop Angel opens in the corn and pups wouldnt go and acted scared of something. She ends up in a hole but wouldnt tree on it. Saw 2 opposums on the way there. She started another track and we got her off before she could tree it. (private land) We walk back and I spot 2 coon in a tree we cut het loose she goes the opposite direction comes back and cant locate the tree. Pups were still by my side and are still scared. They never act that way and are always hunting. So I find 2 opposums and 2 coon and the dogs find 0. Left the coon there for another nite along with the opposums. Was thinking about catching one of the opposums (they were small) but decided against it. The young guy I hunt with wasnt discouraged though, but I was.lol It was perfect for the pups and they blew it.lol Gonna be 40 MPH wind gusts tonite and have to leave early for the new dog in the morning so it doesnt look like Ill hunt tonite. Maybe it was a bad nite cuz I forgot my camera. Wouldnt matter since most of the pics come out bad anyway. How is your beagle doing? Did you get him on rabbits yet?

Normally he ain't scared of nuthin. The beagle is doing fine just way big. Looks like a short fat walker. Apperently this line throws some big ones now and then. Appears to be that something extra slipped in somewhere.

Broke the whole front axle on my tractor.

So looks like when I can get help I'll be working on this for a while instead of hunting much. I'll sure be glad to get things wrapped up from not being able to do them this summer as hot as it was and back to coonhunting regular again like I was before the World Hunt this year.

Getting things together again.

Got the tractor strapped up and back to the house and together. Now I've just got to weld it back up. Then it'll be back to the woods spent the whole weekend ont he deer stand and didn't see a thing. Should have been in the woods coonhunting. I most always see plenty with that. Sure is nice to have hounds that are good and dependable about showing ya the meat.

Kitty is fully out of heat. She hasn't been hunted much but I finally got my tractor welded up and going so I think I'll hunt her some this week and see if I can't pull off a win or two this weekend.

Finally got a deer.

Well after some hard hunting and not seeing a thing I finally got a nice little 6 point this evening. Only problem is now my neck hurting something feirce from dragging it out and skinning it.. Guess I'll turn Kitty loose cold turkey at the hunt tommorrow night. I'll post a pic of him tommorrow.

Tracking them down.

Well last week my buddy came down from OKC and he shot one with a bow in the neck. I had to track that crazy thing, little scattered spots of blood at a time thru all kinds of briars, over a quarter of a mile and finish it off myself. The one yesterday, in the pouring rain, not much different. Shot the first time with my muzzleloader, cap when off no boom. Shot second time, cap went off no boom. Then about 4 to 5 seconds after that BOOM it goes off as I was dropping it down to put in another cap. I thought well no way I hit that one but then he staggered sideways. I loaded another shot him in the neck. Loaded another ran down to where he was jumped him shot him in the back. Loaded another and came running through the woods trying to get a sideways shot off, as I thought my gun must be off. He was running away from me blowing and stomping at me trying to run me off. I finally got sideways to him as he was coming out of a creek and boom finally put him down. Come to find out the first bullet had blew out both of his knees. I thought the first shot hit him in the spine the way he looked. I then had hit him everytime after that I shot he just wouldn't go down. In all I had to chase him about a quarter of a mile. This was one tuff dude. This was by far the craziest muzzleloader hunt I have ever had.

Got another one. Heading to a hunt tonight.

Got the last one I plan on shooting, for the season, today. A big doe that should eat well. Now it's on to coonhunting from here on out. Didn't go to the hunt last night becuase my tractor had some issues again, I had to fix, yesterday. Should finish the major stuff on the farm today or tommorrow. So I'll be back to being in the woods coonhunting at least every other night again. Going to a hunt finally tonight and then I'll be heading up to Redbone Zone Hunt, in Ill. Me and Kitty are going to be in the woods and in the hunts till she makes GrNtCh., now!
