Can't remember what I traded Belle to Cory for. She was a stud pup out of Joe. Belle was very hyper and crossing her on Pete didn't slow the offspring down much.

Wayne Blue looks great with Momma there!! I am extremely happy with this cross but it appears, as luck would have it, I sent a dud out to one of the best hunters in the breed!! There are 3 down to jason's including mine, when he sends me a video of TJ and Little Hemi I will post it.
Ol blue sure has a nice horn and if he can keep up with Momma you will have a winner!! He looks like Gauge a tremendous amount but appears to be a little bigger.
Glad you are having fun with him I can sure see why you would.
Kevin

Clyde,
That cross did not turn out well at all. I am not aware of any hounds out of it that amounted to anything. A very good example of laying it out on paper and crossin 2 coon tree'ers and you still never know. I'd have to say the least sucessful cross that i am aware of on Gauge and i don't know why but it is what it is,

Coty,
Im not sure about that sounds like he is having a good time right where he is. If he comes back for a visit it will not be for a while and I will post it. If there were a few good females back east wanting to visit him i'm sure something could get worked out but for now he's remaining a MO resident.

If time wasnt so precious it would be interesting to see what a 2nd and 3rd cross would produce. The 2nd might be just as bad as the first but I have seen crosses where the 1st was great and the 2nd was pretty mediocre.

One of the craziest things I have seen was 1 out of 8 white pups in the 1st cross and 8 out of 10 white in the second cross.

The genetic combinations possible is in the millions. This is why I think that high percentage multiple litter crosses, and males and females that produce the same type of hound(high percentage of the time) in many different matings is where the future lies.

ICB,
There have been repeat breedings that come to mind on Gauge from
1. Snooter
2. Rain Dancer
3. Mullins Fancy
4. Clinch Mountain Rain
5. Memphis

The first four mentioned had very similar results which were very favorable.
Memphis the pups are to young to tell yet but we will know shortly.
As long as I have any say in the matter Maxy will not ever be under him again!! If it didn't work once I sure as he!! am not gonna try it again. She is a well bred coon treer' but the genetics did not allign favorably. In fairness many were culled young, they might have been later starters I don't know.
I know what you are saying and hope to make crosses on the "infamous" crosses no guaranty's but I feel the odds are better and I am slowly getting it done! below are my wish list for females out of.
1. Boomer x Ruby (soon)
2. HillBilly X Lady (Done) results GREAT
3. RC X Jennie
4. HillBilly X Posie
5. Spike X Ellie (have some Spike stuff now)
6. Rambo II X Heather (might not be any left)
Who knows if we will be alive long enough to try them but good females from those crosses are on my wish list.
Either direct to Gauge or to Sons of his from good crosses.

That is why...

I started my post with......"If time wasn't so precious...."

I am a math teacher and my masters degree required a lot of population statistical analysis. This probably helps explain why a "nutcase" would want to make a useless cross again. LOL

Two years ago I had almost 50% heifers and 50% steers. Last year I had 17 heifers and 13 steers. This year I had 29 steers and 8 heifers!!!!!! And the 8 heifers were pieces of crap compared to previous years. Same cows and bull.

From a pure statistical point of view a cross would probably need to have 50 to 100 pups before you could get close to the true reproducing abilities of the cross. (statistical significance)

I have often wondered if hounds would someday follow cattle. I know a guy who produced 300 full brothers and sisters one year.(one cow....one bull) Flush the top females eggs. Fertlize them with the stud from what appeared to be a proven cross. Implant them in donor bitches....labs, german shepards...any stray that was big and healthy. ;-) Then you could get 1000 pups from a super good cross. I am betting that we could really improve the breed if this were possible....or discover in some cases that a super cross was a fluke of luck....like 29 steers and 8 heifers.

How many.......(fill in your favorite hound) ....could be produced? But until then....."time is too precious".

Coty
If you decide that's what you want to do then we will certainly work to make that happen.

ICB all I have to say about 1000 pups is unless science steps in (OR A WLD CH) the bluetick breed will not have a sire with 1000 pups any time soon. As it is today's dogs have no idea how lucky they are, Grown men chase all over the country looking for the best girlfriends for them deliver them to them in a silver dog box and they have all they can do to make 500 puppies. At least they never have to pay Puppie support!!!! Lol

We had a pup out of maxy and gauge, was nothing there! Sold her kinda young and I believe it's the female that was breed to brummy Clyde, Judy? How is she doing now? Did she start late? I know when she was headed south she wasn't doing a thing

I haven't ever hunted with her. Michael hasn't had her too long I don't think. He says she'll run and tree but she's not a world beater.
