Woah, you called Jason out and when he responds to your post, you tell him to keep his opinions to himself. You should have kept your opinion to yourself if you can not take what you want to dish out. Now that's my opinion and I am sticking to it. Dave

You are double talking, first you call bullshzt to Jason on his post, now you bad mouthing me for stating the truth and you have the nerve to say we are not on here to hurt each other's feelings, but to help. My question to you is just how are you trying to help by calling someone a liar as you did Jason? I think you talk in circles, hiding behind a screen name. I bet Jason would like to address your remark in person, you might just run into him at a hunt sometime. Put your name on here, don't hide behind a screen name when you want to talk trash. Dave p.s. How much has your dog won?

Or maybe an "associate" needs to make a side trip to Va first.

Jason lives in Kentucky, I live in Tennessee, can't speak for Jason but you are welcome at my house anytime including your "associate". I noticed you avoided answering my questions, choosing instead to issue a veiled threat. Don't be so shy post your name, mine and Jason's are well known. Dave

No it isn't! It's another case of a poster that hides behind a screen name and takes shots at a man's character and when they get called out for their behavior act all innocent. Computers and iPad make a lot of folks act high and mighty as long as no one knows who they are. All I care about is if a man can dish it out he sure should be able to take it back like a man. Don't get on a public forum and run your mouth and get mad when someone gives you a dose of your own medicine. Jason made a statement, his right and Ratdog choose to call bullshzt on Jason, but got angry when I spoke up for Jason. Seems like Ratdog only likes opinions that agree with his and does not want anyone to express a opinion contrary to his. He wants his cake and eat it too, don't we all? Dave

Dave everybody has an opinion and they have a right to their opinion. But Jason is in the major leagues he sees what is going on and he chooses to play the game without any performance enhancing drugs the way we did back in the day you conditioned your dog. These guys are in hunts 3 or 4 nights a week so they give their dog some help. And when they win sombody wants to breed to their dog so they keep their mouth shut and take the money. Then the monster is let out of his cage once again. Surprisingly the biggest problem is breeders that know they have thyroid dogs and they breed them anyways to profit from pup sales. There is a network of those breeders they all work together occasionally moving dogs around to keep the heat up. Just like all the lipper seman that keeps showing up it’s all about fleecing the suckers!!
Jason knows they are doing just exzactly what I said they are doing. And it can be passed down. Y’all need to read the fine print before you swaller .

I wholeheartly agree with everyone having a right to their opinion, where my dander gets up is when folks express a negative opinion about others, yet get angry when they receive the same treatment. Jason is more than capable of defending himself, I just thought Ratdog was out of line disputing Jason's statement regarding his dogs thyroid levels when he won 20K, that was uncalled for, yet he gets angry when I called him out for doing so. He can be obnoxious to others, but others should not be that way to him. Dave

Jason wouldn't have been obnoxious if he was showed a bit of respect. Just like anyone would want. I try to respect a person's opinion regardless of how they stand on any situation. But just because you say there's apples in a basket doesn't mean there's not any other fruit in the same basket.

Good post, respect each other's opinions, you do not have to agree with everyone's opinion, but at least respect their right to their opinion. As a military officer I fought for the rights of our people and the freedom of speech. I also, respect others opinions even when I think they are wrong, it's still their right. Calling someone a liar because you do not agree is just not acceptable and downright disrespectful. Happy hunting. Dave

Jason, I mean no disrespect and I certainly believe you but I was wondering why you had your dog tested? Since he was winning hunts, it sounds like he wasn't showing any signs of a low thyroid.
He had cut his pad pretty bad the night prior to the hunt and I originally took him in to see if the vet could give me something for that. I am in and out the vets office a lot and we have a good relationship.
The dog had really been looking good and I told my partner Jeremy I was gonna have a thyroid test done on him so we knew what number we needed to be at...vet said there was nothing he could do for his cut pad but he ran the thyroid test and said he wouldn’t have the results for a few days. We left from his office on 3 legs and headed to salem Illinois. After an amazing week I come home and was setting around and Jeremy kept asking me what that thyroid test said. So I called and talk to the vet and he said he had bad news...I thought Ol lord what now...he said Xs thyroid is a .4 and he wants to put him on 2 .8s a day. I said doc....ain’t no **** way I’m giving him a pill cause whatever it was when I left for Illinois...I hope it stays at!! This is the gods honest truth and y’all can believe it or not I don’t care. But this ain’t hear say these are FACTS!!!
X has had eurlikia...we treated it multiple times, his thyroid has always been .4-1.4 and the sucker just trees coons!! He does get tired faster than your normal dog but I call him lazy. (I’m sure it has to do with the tick) but we ain’t making no excuses and I’d suggest nobody start making excuses because they hard to quit making once you start

Thanks for explaining, it sounds like you didnt have to make any excuses. If your dog is doing great then you have nothing to fix. The problem others are having is when their dog looks or acts like crap.
In my opinion, if you have a dog that is normally a really nice dog and suddenly it starts missing or doesn't want to hunt or is just off, then trying to find out what is the matter is not looking for excuses. If your dog was really nice, trying to fix the problem makes more sense than just culling it. Everyone can't just go get another really nice dog, they have to try and fix the one they have.
Now on the other hand if your dog was never any good, then blaming it on its thyroid is just making excuses.

Good post, I think dogs are somewhat like people in some ways. Different folks and different dogs operate at a high level regardless of pain, injury or sickness, their WILL to succeed overcomes what ails them. Some folks call it heart in man and dog, heart is what separates the men from boys and coon dogs from just average dogs. Saying that, everything can operate better if they are in top physical condition, some do it regardless of condition. Dave

I’m not saying they ain’t a dog that needs thyroid pills, but man that seems to be the new excuse for em. I don’t care how many pills a man gives one...but I am telling you not all of em have to have it and that’s a fact

I agree with you and that's coming from a man that has to take a thyroid pill every day himself. My autoimmune disease caused me to have hypothyroidism and I have to take a pill every day, which is no big deal. There are real cases that need medication and there are cases where it's given to "enhance" performance or so they think. Any medication that's not really needed is going to be harmful in the long run. Dave

So what other hunting hounds are showing issues effecting their performance in the field due to thyroid function? I’ve not heard of any bear hunter complaining about their hounds missing trees, back tracking or unable to move a track due to thyroid issues. Haven’t heard of any beagler complaining about their dog(s) being able to move a track forward in the right direction due to thyroid issues.
No doubt that genetics plays a big roll in a lot of the issues with slick trees and inability to move a track. I have seen first hand the effect that Lyme disease and Ehrlicia have on a coon dog.

Bear hunters and beagles use packs of dogs and it would be more difficult to ascertain a loss of performance in a single dog due to the pack strength as opposed to a coon dog acting alone and showing weakness. Both types of dogs bear and beagles surely contact tick born diseases or at least I would think. Dave
