There are extremes to everything. On the one hand, there is the dog that has to be walked. On the other end, there is the dog that races out of the country. Yes we complain about either extreme. We want one that is in the middle or balanced.

Bruce I complain about the other man's leave the country dog because in a hunt I have to walk to him, not because I get beat by him. If my dog doesn't tree a coon behind him that is my dog's fault. When pleasure hunting, it doesn't matter because only his owner has to go get him.

Years back when dogs were walk hunted it was a leisurely stroll through the woods while talking/visiting/telling stories. Nowadays they want to run wide open to get to old deep and lonely. You are breathing too hard to talk.

Extremes

Mother Nature does not approve of extremes...God created Mother Nature with built in self fixing mechanisms...we as intelligent human beings can manipulate many things whether it be right or wrong...

In many cases technologies allow us to expand and that expansion just could be against the laws of nature...the further we deviate the harder the fall when Mother Nature steps in to makes her corrections...

The wolves, coyotes, foxes and bobcats are not extreme because their genetic makeup falls in line with an average...the right ones live to breed another day...as their food supplies dwindle the predators pass up breeding or die off and they the prey reproduce to the point of excessive reproduction...and the predators start reproducing again...built in checks and balances...a system created by the most high...

Does that mean that Tarbaby is a checker or a balancer?

Tar, I am not sure if your hung up more on babbling or deep hunting dogs. There are rules to handle babbling. ( I wish they were better). Close hunting dogs or deep hunting dogs still need a coon and too many from both groups come up short. So just get a dog that trees coons and minus the babbling dog and you should be OK

By the way. I guess I am lucky because the dozen or so dogs I hunt with/against on a regular basis are not babblers. Not going to say one every now and then might not make on or two barks off the chain. But they are not struck on that nonsense.

by the way, my B-12 is wearing off and I probably won't be back till in the morning.

Backing a dog

I've a got a 3 y/o that would not back a dog since I have had him which has been about a year. well the last few weeks if all dogs are working a track and they tree before him and have the coon he will not leave the area but will not tree with them either. he looks good when they pull up short because he will carry the track on but I've even had him tree beside the one they are on or just mingle in the area. its causing a lot of headache in the hunts right now. anybody have any tips on how to correct this? thanks

Posted by yadkintar on 04-09-2019 01:49 PM:

It's called jealous treeing if not taken care of it gets worse can almost tell you what bloodline he has in him. Go out there get ahold of his collar and scatter his chickens make him go somewhere and get his own coon if he ain't going to back them.

You have to pleasure hunt him with other dogs and either teach him that it is all right to back another dog or teach him that he has to go on when he gets beat on a tree. Depends on what you like. And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It all depends on how smart your dog is.

Posted by ScottCK 6 on 04-09-2019 02:29 PM:

Turn your buddies dog loose , when it gets treed, you or your buddy go to the dog , then turn your dog loose, when he comes in to the tree, run him out. Then when your dog gets out of there and does it right, reward him. Easy fix!!!!!

Funny as I read about coon hounds on the internet. I land here and this is my favorite landing spot. I hear a lot of discussion on different types of dog. Almost to the point of, if its not my style it ain't no good. If it is not your style, just don't hunt it.

My other landing spot, seems to be having big hunts after big hunts. Handing out thousands of dollars every month or couple weeks. I ain't hearing many of those guys complain.

They are clicking along like a well oiled machine. Dogs treeing coon and results posted by the time you wake up in the morning. End of the week. Thousands will be handed out. Just in time for everyone to go home, take a break and get ready to do it again in a couple weeks.

This sport is a lot better than we give it credit for. If you just want to see a coon. Or if you want to see dollar signs. There is a spot for every one.

We have been hunting a young dog for a while and have left Ole Mongo in the pen for months. Last night, drug him out and he was cut once and ended up under a coon. We cut the young one several times and he hunted hard, trailed some. But never parked under a coon. Can't explain it but some just know how to tree coon. But then it is the young and dumb ones that excite me. We all have our different ways to enjoy this sport.

It looks like Tyler's dog did some winning last night. Even if you don't like his style, I guess that he is a winner.

Richard you reckon Tar will start paying more attention to him now. LOL Congratulations Tyler!

Thanks for rooting for me guys! She treed 2 coons early and made the only legit tree late. Other dogs were running rabbits for something and ole Jenna came up with a circle tree! That’s all I needed lol

Tar, I think B-12 is the fountain of youth. LOL

Over on that other board, I got tired just reading about all those coon they walked miles to. Just to win a few thousand dollars.

How many old men on here walked over a mountain top or up the creek bank last night. Just enjoying the stroll.

Something for everyone in the coon hound game. My dog hunted miles. My buggy followed close. His performance was lacking. Corey was smarter. He turned the old dog loose going north and I chose to hunt south. North produce a coon. South just produced enjoyment and a Thankfulness of just being out there.

I know you like to get ready for the big hunts like your Rocky Balboa, but be careful jogging to them trees, swimming those rivers, pulling trees out the ground and the like. Remember them other seniors won't be in that great of shape

Don't get me wrong, some training can't hurt. B12 is great but you should still throw a shoulder into big trees as you walk by, beat your head on rocks, maybe have Corey do some Chinese torture sessions on you. I think Chinese torture is a good mental preparation.
